Hi Nigel, It's so good to hear that Jess is doing well. This is a great video. WNW's designed and produced some amazing kits. I think Copper State Models is doing a great job of filling the demand that WNW left when they closed. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. Jeff

That's awesome news regarding Jess!! Happy to know the pup is still going strong. I've always admired the WNW kits, especially the Flexistowes (I'm a sucker for flying boats) and the Gothas, but haven't picked up any because the rigging I find daunting. Good video.

I think only Copper State come close with the instructions. I do have a few WNW kits of which my gem is the "Brisfit". Would have loved to get The Felixstowe F2A but was out of my price range. Being a fan of Flying boats that one has me drooling. All the best. Glad to hear Jess is still doing well.

When it comes to adding WNW kits to my stash, I was late to the game and only did so when the very first rumors of something going on with the company hit the interwebs 3 years ago. I immediately grabbed two Junkers D1 kits just in case.......... and now I am very glad I did.

Nige, you’ve just made me miss WnW even more. 😢 Glad to have Kotare and am supporting them as much as I can. If only Kotare and Peter can make an arrangement to re-release key WnW kitsets - I’m still missing a couple that I really want. Of course, I have no idea how such a deal would navigate or impact any legalities; it’s just wishful thinking on my part. I’ll end with a toast to WnW and Kotare. And a big hug for Jess. ♥️😊

Maybe if they'd made subject matter people where actually interested in, they'd still be in business. A niche vanity project isn't what the market really desires.

Nice video Nigel! I built the 1/32 Meng Fokker DR.I back at the beginning of the year and I enjoyed EVERY moment of it! It does come with four schemes, not just the two (though three of them are challenging to paint, certainly makes the grey matter tick over!). I did Voss' F.I and while you have to do some researching online for where the rigging is and some of the instruction callouts aren't as clear as WNW would've done them, it is a super kit to put together if you are thinking of giving further WWI subjects a go! It is a very weighty model too when it is completed! Looking forward to the Lanc making it back on the bench and hopefully a future build of the Kotare Spitfire! I've been accumulating some aftermarket for it as I will probably only ever do one and I thought some wheels, exhausts, seatbelts and the One Man Army paint masks would make it the best it could possibly be. Looking forward to starting it probably after Telford!

This video was just a pleasant reminder that I have a Sopwith Camel and one more Albatros by WNW in my stash to build. One of these days I'll get around to working on them. You are absolutely right, WNW's was the gold standard. I'm hoping companies will start providing the kind of instruction booklets that they did. The premium price was worth it. You're going to spend that much if not more on 3rd party reference material and time. It's so good to have everything in one tidy spot.

Glad that Jess is plugging along! The WNW folks were in attendance at the IPMS USA Nationals in 2019. They brought test shots of the Fokker F.1 and Dr.1 (they were going to be released separately) and the Lancaster. I was really excited about the Fokker triplanes and knew I would end up with both. I did appreciate that Meng included the parts for both versions in their release. One question that I often hear is what happened to the WNW molds, and there is always speculation that someone will obtain the molds and re-release the entire line.

Hello Nigel. You are absolutely right about WNW model kits. It is a great shame that these fantastic models are no longer produced. Even if PJ sells its molds, the products will be different. I have all the kits in my stock in their original packaging, with the exception of the special editions. My personal treasures. Thank you for this video. Best wishes, Christian👍🤗

Enjoyed the reminisce of WNW. I miss them. I have only two WNW... Jeannin Stahltaube and the Junkers D.1. I would love the Lancaster, but I have absolutely no room for it. :( I will get the Airfix Sea king though no comparison. What I dislike about Airfix is why do they have to have that modeled texture on the body parts? Makes no sense to me. Alas, I will be copying Jennifer's lead and will be sanding that down. Happy the pup is on the mend. Take good care. Cheers! 🛩

Nigel, wingnut wings kits are without doubt the best, but modelers like myself are not interested in WW1 kits so they put them selves in a narrow market, hence sales could not keep up with overheads. If only they had released bread and butter kits like the Spitfire, Kotare have now they would have survived in a very limited market, They should have released a 1/32 Hurricane as that is what the modelling world is waiting for as the Revell kit does not fill the gap.... Love your passion keep the content coming.....pleased to hear Jess is still going strong...... 👌

The Gotha UWD is a very impressive model and fairly straightforward. Just ensure you fully understand how the float struts go before adding glue to them... My Favorites of the 17 WnW kits I have built are probably the DH9A and the Sopwith Pup

I thought that this video would be of no interest to me whatsoever, how wrong I was. I watched it and it was a revelation, I still won't be buying most of the kits mentioned due to the cost but the history and insight into Wingnut wings and it's offshoots was fascinating. The only kit realistically within my budget would be the Fokker DR1but I would also have to buy that fabulous guide book to compliment it. Thankyou for a very interesting video.

Hi Nige. Great vid but I have to disagree with you on the Boarder Lanc. I’ve built WNW before (Sopwith Camel) and I’ve build the Boarder Nose Section of the Lanc and I was really disappointed. Went into it expecting a WNW build experience and I found the kit fought me all the way. At best I would say the Boarder Lanc is test shots that were sent to market at an extortionate price. And done even get me started on the clear parts! I understand that they have reworked them for the Dambuster Lanc. I do have to agree with you though on the Kotare Spit. I have that, it looks great and I’m looking forward to seeing it on your bench. Keep up the great content and take care.

One of the best comparative summaries, starting with the most important - Jess! As to the WNW kits summary, superb as well. One of the best and most watchable videos you have done. Be great to get more insider-stories on kit manufacturers, for instance where some of the old names have gone (Aurora, Smer, Inpact from 1966, etc) and how the used-kit market sits with those old names. Also, about how the whole process of kit manufacturing has moved on. Just a thought.

I built the Meng model and in my opinion they did not do justice to their association with Wing Nut Wings. Not a bad kit but not a great one either.
@NigelsModellingBench Жыл бұрын
Hi Barry. Meng had no association with WNW. This was information falsely put out there. The tool manufacturer who made the molds for WNW for this and the 1/24 Dr.1 approached or was approached by Meng and a deal was done. Meng and WNW did not collaborate on this kit. I agree though, there are some issues with this model that would not have been there had WNW produced it.
@berrypainter Жыл бұрын
They certainly played up the non existent collaboration while they were copying everything they could get away with. I had fun building the model and I knew it wasn't a collaboration, just thought they were a little stingy. Some control wires and struts would have been nice...@@NigelsModellingBench
