I've always had an interest in fashion, but I can't afford college courses right now and honestly I sometimes regret not pursuing it in college as a major. I have a very basic knowledge of some fashion things (names of designers, how politics affect fashion, etc.), but I always feel like I don't know enough.

I lived rurally in Ireland and I remember having no idea about fashion at all but then saw one day on tv one of McQueens original shows and being blown away by it. The one with the metallic spine pieces! I was about 16 and have been hooked on fashion ever since!

I guess what I'm looking for is why high fashion exists. Do celebrities get tired of being expected to wear high fashion designers and wish to wear normal clothes, not just for the pressure, but to wear clothes that are practical, comfortable, and actually look good. It looks to me like a year-long round of Halloween parties with people assigned to make fun of everyone else's costumes. There are so many references to dead designers and sometimes parties are specifically stated to be honoring a dead designer. This is a fascinating, almost religious practice.
