It is so frustrating that people ignore that Popper clearly outlined that the type of intolerance he was specifically talking about were those that both showed intolerance AND were not willing to engage in rational discourse on the topic. Great video! Known a number of combat vets over the years, aswell as have been reading about the Bosnian War and other similar conflicts these past few years. See a lot of people on the left who think that some type of Civil War will make the world a better place, yet they fail to grasp even an idea of the horrors of such a conflict, horrors that would effect everyone. The Civil War wouldn't be modern history since it was in the 1880s so there was no need to even mention it. Several Eastern European countries that split from the Soviet Union. Went from being Communist to Democratic and are the freest countries currently in Europe even with their corruption. Yes a couple of them did indeed revolt which is what led to the downfall of the Soviet Union.

Didn't the English empire have a civil war in which the kings power was reduced and which resulted in the magna Carter. That granted the subjects' rights in the empire.

Also, you had the Chinese Civil War that formed the nation of Taiwan. Taiwan ranks as one of the freest nations in the world. Unfortunately, it resulted in the PRC one of the most authoritarian nations in the world. So I guess that's a wash.

Honestly the worst outcome a civil war can have is not increased Authoritarianism but the war not stopping for years like the American civil war was relatively quick though i could easily see if things go completely wrong from all sides with modern technology a second American civil war that lasts 3 times longer than the first one Note: Syria has been in a civil war for almost 12 years. It’s 12th anniversary is March 15,2023

We just need peaceful secession like we should have had in 1861. If South Carolina wants to leave, then let them, and the economy and markets will sort out how they run things. The South would have abolished slavery anyway by 1900, because it would have been economically unsustainable; especially, with all the foreign immigrants moving to the North.
