It is absolutely the most forgiving bike on the road and is virtually kill proof. The 300 is a definite upgrade an fuel injection and abs are nice touches. But, if you want a combo city bike- cruiser, the 500 will keep you going without need for an upgrade for a number of Summers. For us shorties, that should be just fine. Hey man you're on a bike, live it up, who cares what anyone else thinks. They are stylish, sharp looking bikes. Pretty good review.. as a Texas MSF mechanic ( not an instructor) I have to say, out of all the 250/300s... its surprisingly torquey. It doesnt look like a small engined bike,. It's short, stubby, but it's still...ahem " full size" and brutish Looking. It. Simply looks like a much larger( engined) bike. Depending on how you see things, that is a plus, or a negative. Here are a couple bonuses for it.. it's an excellent beginner bike, and an excellent MSF course bike. ( here is my take) we HAD late model ninja 250s. They NEVER got used, and my boss got tired of me working on the carbs, so we dismantled, or sold them off..why? Instructors said " great bike for entry level/experienced commuting, but not for teaching at the range". By the time, usable RPM on the ninja 250s was reached, students were way WAY past safety markers.

YOOO! This is an excellent one! As someone who has ridden both the V-Star 650 and the Vulcan S 650, I would love to see somebody else’s opinion on them! I love both, but for different reasons. V-Star for the pure style and good value for that and the power it provides, beautiful classic sound from the twin pipes too. Vulcan S for that surprising arm-pulling power even when restricted both electronically and at the throttle. Looks sexy too, if not a bit alien haha, but it is roughly $2-5k (depending on country) more expensive than a top condition pre-owned V-Star which is something to consider. Has a torque oriented + tuned Ninja 650 motor though, so you get 11k Rpm as the redline as opposed to roughly 7k on the V-Star. Both are epic, both have two cylinders, both are technically cruisers. I’d love a video just on these, but adding the shadow in too would be great!

One thing added to the Yamaha Bolt. A pal of mine has one and we occasionally ride together (i own a Rebel 500). In terms of acceleration, the Rebel 500 outperforms the Bolt easily, because it is nearly 200 Punds lighter and it perfoms up to 8000 rpm That, plus the fact that my buddy is heavier than me, the Bolt needs to be revved up to compete against the Rebel. 260~lb Male here, 6' tall, 30" leg length (according to pants) Rebel 300 2018 thoughts (after 6 months of riding) Perfect IF.... if you are starting out, driving on average under 60mph (i can keep it at 75mph without wind, again I'm 260lb), want high gas milage (60+ mpg!!!), and already plan on upgrading but using it as a learner. The rebel 300 is amazing to start with and got me to go from feeling uneasy at under 20mph, to building confidence and now riding over 60mph (when law allows) everywhere I go with it. With that said after about 3 months I did feel the need to upgrade for more power (acceleration, view 0-60 specs if clarity is needed). Also have been told by mechanics that a single cylinder is not good at long highway speeds, they are meant roughly 60 or under and around city. I wish to add the only other gripes I have in general, for my weight(or your weight plus luggage if lighter) I have to put rear spring on max but it works fine (you may not have this problem). The 300 is buzzy, your mirrors shake badly and hard to see behind you at higher speeds because of this. The seat is a must needed upgrade if you ride for more then 30minutes at highway speeds (both 300 and 500, same seats). Starting the bike (similar to other bikes, but I was new and dumb), to start: Turn key on, lift kickstand (or vise versa), turn engine switch on, then start engine button.....I say this because there was a few times I thought I had dead battery (nonsense, lights were on, again I was new), or my new (lightly used) rebel 300 was a dud....nope, just need to learn start up, and its similar to most motorcycles. and last, it does feel a bit cramped due to being a smaller and lower bike with a standard ride style. I don't mind it at all but did notice it after a friend mentioned it. so....do yourself a favor. if you start with a rebel and want to keep it for more then a year....GET 500, especially for highway riding!, but.... if you find a good deal on a 300 and want to learn, but know your going to upgrade( and don't plan on passing people) then a 300 is enough to start! hope this helps, I was new rider not long ago (and still newish) and was looking for help like this, so I hope it helps someone decide! Also don't forget there are other models and sizes out there, and just because I went this route doesn't mean its the best. Best thing to do is sit on it and give a test ride if possible.

Marik as far as beginner “cruisers” go... it’s not particularly great, that’s for sure. There’s so many options that are 500+ and relatively the same price. I couldn’t figure out why there was so many of these in kijiji (basically canadian craigslist) until I actually rode one. Without serious modifications, they leave a hell of a lot to be desired

There’s an entry level Cruiser from Kawasaki called Vulcan S which is a very close ‘parallel twin’ competition to Rebel 500 ! The fact that it didn’t find a mention in this video ( even though it was mentioned in a few earlier videos ) makes me wonder what the heck is happening!!

Best Beginner “one & done” bike is by farrrr, the Kawasaki Vulcan S 650!! Was looking at the Rebel’s and Bolt, and I couldn’t be happier with my Vulcan 🏍🖖🥳
@emersonp28774 жыл бұрын
C-Turtle 316 yea, and no. I’d say it all depends on what you want to move onto. Like the video says, the bolt is more or less a discount sporty, so if you just really have that deep burning passion of wanting an iron 1200, then logically, the closest bike to that, would also be the best starter bike. The Vulcan S does, however, translate being similar enough to almost all non-harley cruisers that it’s definitely the best beginning point for a lot of cruiser riders.
@LARGO1254 жыл бұрын
Depends what you want. Many cruiser riders like to customize their machines. The Rebel already has quite a community building up for customizing their bikes (seriously google it, you'll be amazed). VulcanS? Maybe you can find a set of slip on cans for the exhaust. That's it. Get a Vulcan S and you'll have to accept and be happy with what Kawi gave you because there is exactly ZERO aftermarket for that bike.

I have been a HD guy for over 30 yrs. I'm not a bike snob though, I believe just ride whatever gets you on a bike. That being said a buddy of mine 19 yr old son who has been raised around HDs wanted to start riding. His goal is to have a Harley but he was a little intimidated by the weight. He drove a cruiser from pretty much every brand and ended up with a Rebel 1100. I rode it yesterday, I will say, that is one helluva a nice bike, especially for a beginner. It might be the best bike for a entry level rider that I ever rode quite honestly. Light, well balanced, loaded with technology geared toward safety. He can literally jump on it and go, has multiple traction and power settings, cruise, ABS, I can go on. If your a experienced rider but just want a bike to cruise around town, it can also give you all you want. Not near the torque or horsepower of a Vtwin, but if that's not a personal requirement, this is a damn good choice.

A used Yamaha bolt, is about the same price as a new rebel 500. If not cheaper. Usually they are low mileage too. I suggest getting a used one for beginners who have no experience on two wheels. You get more bang for your buck and still good with reliability, if you get a bolt or a Vulcan 900. The Vulcan 900 is shaft driven, very easy to maintain.
