I feel like a new rider having previous experience with Manual Transmissions is a huge help with power/speed modulation…..having previous experience with MC Bikes also would give you a solid wrist for Steady Throttle Control in varying surface conditions. Someone like that could start on a bigger bike if they’re mentally stable and have common sense LOL That person would likely also be considered a minority within the riding community these days LOL

Honestly, the best beginner bike is the one that fits you, your budget, your style, and your maturity. My first bike, which I got just in July, is a 2005 Honda VTX 1300 C. Wasn't my first choice (I wanted a Vulcan S), but it's been a great bike, and as long as I respect the torque in lower gears, it's fine. (1000+ cc is very different on a cruiser than on a sport bike.) As for size, I am 6'5", so that big bike doesn't feel big to me. I'd also recommend getting a bike that can do highway speeds without struggling. So, that means getting a bike with at least 500 cc.

I 10000% agree with everything you said. My only experience on a bike was the 2 days at the MSF course. I wanted a honda rebel but the 500 despite being highway capable didnt doesnt have much power past 75mph and i feel like you might need more to get out of a bad situation at those speeds. Plus you grow out if it quick. I got a 1100 as my first bike and in lower power modes its actually easier to ride then the old beat up 300s they had us on in class. Maturity level 100% plays a role. And ive been on a 650cc street bike and thats a way different beast then my rebel 1100

I finally passed my driver's licence. On A rebel 1100!!!! I love it as my first and probably only bike I will ever own. The way it rides is perfect for me, as of right now. I got the automatic version (DCT), thinking it would save me some troubles. But in the mountains I switch to automatic and you lose the ability to use the clutch during slower maneuvers. So... It's a challange to say the least. But once you get used to it... And Letting the engine purrrrr a bit.... It's a fine beast.

My 1st bike was a used 1973 BMW R60/5 that I bought in 1980. That was a 4 speed, 40hp bike with low compression base gaskets installed cuz no lead gas. I wore it out covering about 20 states. You don't need huge bike to enjoy riding.

I started on a Honda CTX700n. Has a decent seat height for anyone over 5’ 6” and it doesn’t sound weird like the Vulcan S since it has a 270 degree parallel twin. It’s basically the new rebel but made back when nobody wanted it.

Where I live,most people getting a cruiser as a first bike buy something like a Yamaha Virago 125 or 250, Honda Rebel 125 or 250, Suzuki Marauder GZ125 or GZ250, etc. (I started on an Aprilia Red Rose Classic,also a little beginner bike). The bikes on this list are all midweight bikes,I guess you can start on them,but they would actually be better as a second bike,after getting some experience on something smaller.

I am the proud owner of a Marauder 250 and man, I love my little bike! It's low on power, but a nimble featherweight and outside of the highway it's capable to keep up with bigger bikes with no problem whatsoever.

We just don't have that "no replacement for displacement" mentality,and don't think that only worthless losers ride anything under 1000 cc,here it's perfectly normal for a beginner rider to start on an actual beginner bike.

I started on an S40 and sold it to my friend so he could start riding. They're pretty sprightly for a tiny thing, and they're light and low, perfect for anyone. Also I accidently wheelied it at a light because I didn't realize I was still in 3rd when I stopped

I found the rebel a but cramped when I sat on it at store too. The vulcan was much more comfortable and felt fine when I went for a test ride. How are you finding it after 4 months of riding now?

My friend says its comfier than harleys. However, I do like power and wish it had a bit more to give. Maybe the 1100 wouldnt be so bas in my situation. But objectively, the 650 V star is such an amazing bike. Clutch is a bit funny at first though

Also has lower cost to own as far as maintenance and reliability. These are factual statements that can be backed by 3rd party research. Started out on my Indian Chief bobber. I know it isn’t the recommended starter bike, and it’s very expensive (in Europe it’s 20K), but it has very controllable power and once you get a feel for the clutch in 1st and 2nd gear, I find it very forgiving. Also: it was my dreambike from the getgo and I will probably ride it for many years to come. Also I’m 6ft1, so a scout, rebel 500 and the like make me look like a normal guy on a pitbike.

What I don't like about this lists is that they always recommend new bikes for beginners. Let's be honest, if it's a first bike you're looking for to learn to ride a motorcycle, once you become more experienced you probably won't keep the bike and will want to upgrade to something better so it makes no sense on buying a brand new beginners bike in a dealership. My current bike which is my first bike is a 2003 Honda Shadow ACE 750 which I got for $2,600 and has less than 30k miles on it. I've had it for 1 year already and is my daily driver to work. Why spend $7k, 8k, 9k for a brand new bike that in 2 or 3 years you will most likely sell to upgrade for something better?

Most people will buy another bike, yes. But if one actually is aware of the fact beforehand, one can make a very carefull and thought thru decision to buy the bike they just KNOW and FEEL deep down they will ride for years and keep for yrs if not tens of yrs. Everything changes, things and situations passes day by day second by second but there are some things that just works better than others. Its all about finding this something as soon as possible to not feel like u lack something, be it a Motorcycle or something physical.

well at 66 yrs. old, my first starter is the Rebel 500. it's quick first 4 gears, and the last 2 will get you flying down the road. it's only 416 lbs, anyone 5' to 6' can ride this bike. being new( i used to ride 40 years ago) on a 1200 or bigger twisting that throttle without experience can get you into trouble fast. i really wanted the Honda Fury, 1300 cc's, glad i i had not so good credit. i love my 500. it's perfect for new riders. that's my story, and i'am sticking to it!!

I have an MT-07 and I think the clutch control is touchier on it than it is on any cruiser. If you can master the MT-07, moving to a cruiser feels like riding a recliner.

I just bought a 750 Honda Shadow aero as my first street bike and I'm only 5'11 and 140lb so its a pretty big bike for me and the only experience I have was riding dirt bikes about 10yrs ago and if I can learn on a cruise anybody can, all you have to do is take your time and respect the bike and it will come to you

The Vulcan S is the best bang for your buck. The bike is beautiful and rides smoothly. I have the 2021 Pearl White. Not sure why you think it's hideous looking. Everyone who's sees it asks about it and say how cool looking it is. Harleys are over done....blah

Of that bunch I like the Suzuki M-50. The price isn't that bad, it looks good (to me), and the reliability plus the fact that it's shaft drive would be what draw me to it. I have to admit I like the M-90 and M-109 as well.

I drive its predecessor Marauder VZ800. M50 / Intruder VZ800 is basically the same except fuel injected, shaft driven and some cosmetic changes. And yes, it is a good beginner bike for a mature person. Not very heavy for a cruiser and still the engine is surprisingly perky. I mean, it is no naked sports bike but 0-60 in bit over 5 seconds is nothing to scoff at to get some juices flowing in your veins during take offs.

I mean, you're not entirely wrong, but there's something to be said about bikes specifically designed to be more appropriate to beginners. Yes, anyone can theoretically start on anything with enough discipline, but not only will they learn more about riding, they will also do it at a much faster pace on a smaller bike, and usually with less money at stake as well.

I had a 1200custom sportster 100th anniv. Great bike. Then got daytona 765. Out grew both and got a custom 1650 wide glide. Commented on ither vids about gettin another bike. Found a clean 11 R6 and got a great deal on it. Ride it home today!!!

I just traded up to a sportster s. But the bike I traded in I learned on for 5 years before I spent big boy money. I learned on a Vulcan s and I would highly recommend the abs version of it to anyone new to riding. The front end is so light and flickable while the rear stays planted. Leaning into a corner is a breeze on it. Takes a bit more effort from the sportster. Don't get me wrong, I highly recommend the Sportser S too. But only for someone who wants fz09/mt09/660rs speed. Which is what I was looking for.

The Scout 60 actually does have the 6th gear from the Scout. They basically just skipped 5th gear & kept the same high end gear for highway riding. The ratios are the same as 1-2-3-4-6 from the Big Scout.

The Triumph SS 900 has a 30" stock seat height. 65HP and weighs 454lbs dry. It can be lowered another 1.5-2" with rear shock replacement. NO beginner, no matter man/woman/tall/short should get a bike any heavier IMO. They all stay up well cruising hwy speed but the real test is 20 or less mph. Tight turns, parking lots and idiots who park after you, in the way. For a beginner, weight is your enemy until you get some miles under your can. The SS 900 is not my first street bike, it's my 6th, but I haven't ridden in 25 years. I've owned 2 Sportsters, liked them a lot but not for me anymore, I'm 68 and not interested in wrestling 100lbs more than my Street Scrambler. It's enough bike for my purpose and very fun. Lots of customization to do also. Love it.

Spite, I bought 2 Kawa 650 vulcans for me and my wife. I drove 1900 miles in my minivan to pick them up. Then I towed them home. Almost 4k miles round trip. That was about two years ago. Got her on the two wheeled journey for the first time and got myself back on two wheels after 20 years because of the Vulcan 650 and then my wife sees your video raggin on the bike....Just saying.

I think the issue people have with the Suzuki S40, is that they don't understand it. It's a dirt-cheap bike, nearly unchanged since 1986, and is a blank slate. They make a great bike for absolute beginners to rip around on, they can do highway speeds easily, and they're bulletproof. I'd never recommend a mechanical novice get a carbed V-Twin, but a carbed single? yeah why not. Belt drive is great, there's a great aftermarket for the bikes, and the community support is fantastic. And with how light it is, if you drop it, you will have zero trouble picking it back up, and finding replacement parts is dirt easy.

One of my favorite videos. My first bike was a Vulcan S and while it fit, I felt like it was very dorky and weird to ride. Now I have a Softail Slim and while the torque scared me a little at first, it is a tame pig and a great bike for someone with 3-6 months experience. Great Harley to learn on, I would be curious to see you guys do a review on one.

As a Yamaha Bolt owner, I'm not sure why it's disliked so much. Sure it's a direct competitor to the 883 but in my opinion better in almost every way. The bike is still plenty of fun and has enough power to get out of its own way. I'd take it over the 950 any day.

lol i bought a Vulcan S, love it for my first bike. But tbh, already pining for something with a tad more personality. Handles wonderfully and she ain’t slow at all, but the cheapness in materials remind me more of a rental jet ski than my personal motorcycle. The sound does suck as well. But for the price, I am over the moon ($4k 2k miles). I would say it doesn’t look amazing, but it got compliments all the time. Just like my first car, I will always have a bit of nostalgia for it. But that’s the problem. I am feeling nostalgic and I STILL HAVE IT😅 probably jump on a Speed Twin or similar in a few months or end of the year. Cheers!🤠

Yammie, let me help you out: S40, TU-250x, Eliminator 450, anything from Royal Enfield, nothing from Harley, Rebel 300 or 500. Vulcan S is the extreme upper limit. Under 700 cc engines is an easy guideline. Reasonably reliable (sorry, HD) and reasonably inexpensive repairs (sorry…um, Europe). Japanese and Indian (nation) pretty much own the new rider market.
