Cyberpunk Red would be the best starting point for this

@wizardsofthetower3802 cyberpunk red is all the things you're looking for. It has vehicle combat it's fast paced and deadly and has vehicle gangs all built in. The only thing is you'll need to homebrew locations because the core style revolves around Night City but that wouldn't be difficult

I've been working on my own ttrpg since January. It's d12 based; got only 4 stats: Attack, Defense, Endurance, Charm; and you play as an element-touched that ventures into the wilderness to collect bits of exotic plants and animals to craft magical weapons and armor with epic abilities. I designed it to make character creation simpler than DND so newer players didn't have to waste time making a lot of choices about things they didn't understand yet before playing the game to learn the rules. And if someone realizes what they really wanted to play was fire/shadow instead of water/air, they can just make that character because it's like 3 steps.

Personally I think that mad max car combat would be best if given combat rules that favour tabletop play. If it was woven into the rpg play in a way that it wasn't necessary to use a tabletop (no templates, distance/speed as ranges not precise numbers, etc) then it could both incorporate large numbers by using a tabletop and keep a fast pace by avoiding most of the wargamming-ness of a tabletop. Something like playing dnd 5e with minis and no grids. But with tabletop style stat blocks Have a look at GWs Gorkamorka if you haven't already. Some of the rules outside of basic combat might give you some ideas

@Localfriendlyanarchist Thank you for the comment. I had heard of Gorkamorka, but not familiar with it.

What is it about?

@@wizardsofthetower3802 It's an experiment of an OSR without using levels, and all mechanics are resolved using rolling under your core stats using 3d6, and effects measured with d6. By now it's the usual mediaeval-like fantasy setting, but I'm planning to use it as a frame for sci-fi and thanks to you, a wasteland setting looks interesting.

Post-apocalyptic is a genre, and any genre can have a game. A junker world action game would be fire.
