Mini making can be its own hobby. I've started making ones out of hot glue and, while they don't have the best details, they're serviceable and I enjoy the process of making them.

@fenixmeaney6170 thank you for the comment. WOW that is an interesting way to make mini's. I'd love to see the process

Miniatures are amazing, they give life to a game, and it's a form of art for those making them or painting them. The game is always more important, D&D is so awesome, the system, the world, it needs not much other than a pen and paper, and it's still just as good. Though yeah, minis are like the artwork on the cover of a good book. You want it to look awesome. If the book sucks the cover won't matter that much, and at the same time, you really do not want some half baked art for a brilliant book.

i have a few but rarely use them, as half of my game crew is online so we play using owlbear, the minis i have are mostly the OG Ral Parthas from the late 1980s

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, if playing online, no need for them, use tokens. Yeah my Ral Partha are from the early to late 80's

Made a campaign for a friend’s birthday. Only one of the four PCs have played before (not the bday friend) and it was requested to have shooter elements. I prepped a digital map ages ahead of time and promptly forgot where it was saved. In haste I grabbed what little miniatures I had (robots, ninjas, and basketball players, as my army men were also missing) and went to a teacher supply store to get a large laminated grid. When the shoot out began, I placed miniature boxes around the area for taking cover as well as a path for people choosing to remain melee fighters. Even with the placeholder miniatures and the dry eraser map, the concept of utilizing cover was immediate and I think translated far better than if I had used a 2D digital map. My one regret is while a dry erase map is super stow-able, I did nothing to mark the miniatures’ location since we stopped mid battle on said map before cleaning up, so lessons learned.

I am addicted to minis :D I have a gaming room with 10 large Billy bookshelves displaying all my minis and terrain, mostly unpainted, but I use them all! :D I have enjoyed putting Dungeon and Lasers minis and terrain together. Also on kickstarter Reaper Bones (an amazing deal), there is also buying some of the Dungeons & Dragons board games have a ton of prepainted minis.

@tinaprice4948 thank you for the comment. Sounds like a cool game room. Mine has 3 7 foot tall shelves loaded with minis and ships for gaming. I had friends that did the bones KS.
