Bought my 17' with 16k miles and had the MAPerformance intake plus their included tune installed at 20k miles. The tune was a night and day difference from stock and made the car feel like it had some top range pull. Then went with the Invidia R400 catted exhaust and MAPerformance catted j-pipe installed (MAPerformance J-pipe included yet another free tune) and my god the car finally felt like it should have came from the factory. It finally felt like it had a consistent pull through the entire rev range and the little extra burbles and pops mixed with the intake turbo noises just puts a smile on your face. Also have the e60 map that I throw on from time to time just to have a little fun with some go-go juice but I normally don't run that tune daily. pros and cons of modifying an STI: Pros - Slightly more power - Awesome rumble exhaust note - Pops and bangs when downshifting if you're aftermarket dp and tune - Awesome cornering and AWD system (with good tire set) - fairly inexpensive compared to other vehicles in it's sector Cons - Still slow - Heat soaks like a mf - expensive as hell to squeeze good HP - super delicate so don't hoon with it for the first 10 minutes from cold start - expensive if you need to fix I own one and I can say it's good and bad at the same time lol. My experience with the car is good, I haven't had major issues with the car like some other people. 2018 sti running the stage 2+ from MAP (intake and dp with stock fuel system) and it has been great, already 11K miles and going. Sucks that modifying this car is so expensive for literally 400whp. Fun to own for a few years, but good luck on the used market, these cars are ticking time bombs once modified because of the damn 4th cyl.

@@blackfacegaming191 you need a little more than a bigger turbo and an e-tune for 400hp though. Unmodified these cars will last a really long time, Subaru did an amazing job with the FA20 engine and I have one, a 2016 WRX and I love it. At 102k miles and have never had a single check engine light. Oil change every 4k miles, synthetic and I only put 91 octane + in it. Its my daily, the ONLY thing I have done with it was cosmetics such as wheels, wing, lip, vortex generator, and just little bits here n there + interior stuff. Also did a nameless axleback muffler delete exhaust and the car sounds amazing. To me its perfect, modify your car if you want and push 400whp but good luck when that engine blows the fuck up.

@@benbattista5035 The people bashing OTS tunes know what OTS tunes are. They are not good as a long term solution. I've run Cobb and MAP OTS tunes and while it was better than stock, they weren't much to write home about. The problem with OTS tunes is they are generic. Your engine, at your elevation and climate is going to behave very differently than another identical engine at a different elevation, etc.... so OTS tunes are made to work with a very broad range of conditions. That means they make a LOT of compromises. After running OTS tunes and being dissatisfied we went with a grimmspeed catted jpipe, grimmspeed e port EBCS, cat back and got etuned from Torqued Performance. Completely different animal. Worth every bit of the couple thousand spent. No intakes, no BOV's (those are noise makers not power adders).
@jamesg82463 жыл бұрын
@@somersfamily If that was your experience you would be the first person I've ever seen who preferred an OTS tune over a custom etune. Are you sure you didn't buy a different tuners OTS map? Who was the etune done by and how many revisions did they take to dial in your car?

I have a 2020 WRX Base, and already ordered a Greddy Remark 4" Axel back system, and about to order the stage 1+ Kit from MAPerformance. I thought I could just get a cold air intake and be done but nooooo. You have to get a COBB access port and get it tuned haha. Quick question though, I also got a TurboXS 50/50 BoV and was told by my Subaru Dealership that it would be fine with the car, but he would want me to have it tuned so the MAF knows its dumping half the air. Is that something you guys would recommend? I just want that fat turbo woosh when I get off the gas and thought this would be a good way to go about it.
@austinstratton35303 жыл бұрын
I have been building my 2020 WRX Premium CVT (yes, I know, but rush hour traffic and constant shifting is lame). Easiest way to remember: BPV = No tune, BOV = Yes tune. Also I love Cobb and MAPerformance but don't flash OTS tunes and think you're done. You need to add a boost controller and get a protune. Probably 7-800 all in. Any catback or further exhausts need no tune as well. The fact that your dealership told you to to go and get a tune because of the MAF changes speaks to their integrity. Understand that if something breaks and it can be determined the tune was the problem, warranty will not cover. Hope all this helps. Happy tuning!

I still would rather build my 1998 gc8 Impreza into the STI. I feel like it'll be a unique car when I'm done with it. This is just my opinion, but I'm not really too hip on the new WRX and STI. Anything from my year (MY98) to 2012, I would consider getting. I feel kinda feel the same way about the Evos as well. Even though the Evo X looks mean aggressive I still prefer the older models of the Mitsubishi Evolution. There's just something about the way that the Mitsubishi evolution and Subaru WRX/STI were made back then that seem more...appealing to me.
