Watercolours always go through that "shite", underpainitng stage. A good friend of mine (who makes a living from art), always reminds me to have confidence, push the values and to keep pushing through the shite stage. And if it still looks like crap? Reward yourself with a beer and a bonfire!

Kind of found this video late, but I’m working my way through your catalogue. Got to say, this video covers one of the most important topics that keeps our minis grey, the daunting. A finely made miniature is always incredible intimidating when you’re looking at all the unpainted details and trying to figure out how it’ll look when you’re done, and it becomes difficult to figure out where to start, and the solution is deceptively simple. Just pick any colour and put it on the model. Once you’ve got some paint on there, you can start thinking about what works and what doesn’t.

This was fun! To add to the theme, I'll throw out a request for a video: turning a sculpt you DON'T like into a painted mini you DO like. New as I am to the hobby, I've actually had a lot of fun painting some sub-par models I got in bits lots or 2-mini blister packs, maybe because there's no pressure and I tried some new things. Just a suggestion. Love the channel!

Something that might help with color schemes is taking a picture of the mini and taking it into a program like krita, then using layer modes like multiply and overlay to color it and make sure it’ll look good in the layout you want. If it does, then do some swipes of the colors you think you’re going to use next to each other and see how they play

on my last project i had one of the final moments where i hated how it had ended up. But the next day when i saw it i ended up really liking it, i showed it to my friends and they did aswell. So my 2 cent would be: -Don't judge too fast your own work, give it the time it needs. -Get feedback from people you trust and respect their opinions. Also i really liked the snail from the beginning, and loved the look at the end.

I was actually always interested in the use of zenithal painting when you just covered it anyway. But the use to help identify areas for light and shade makes complete sense now. Also finishing a space before moving on might seem like common sense to most, but I regularly just rush to get to the areas I like and then come back and mess it up

One of the most valuable things to learn, and also one of the hardest, is "everything looks terrible until near the very end". This is true in any form of art. You really have to separate PROCESS from RESULT in your mind. Don't hate the process, or be discouraged by it. It's just the process; it's a box of Lego bricks that are only half assembled. Once you learn to see most of the work in your hands as a process in progress, your anxiety levels tend to go way down. Of course, this is where there's no substitute for experience. Much of the time when we feel our work is awful, it is because we don't know where to go next with it to make it look more pleasing to ourselves. You can't trust the process if you don't know what the steps in the process are. So yeah, it's unavoidable that for a while, you're going to be frustrated until you build up a library of techniques and methods to have at your disposal. Once you do however, you can look at your work in progress and immediately say to yourself "okay, I can try THIS next, and then THAT afterwords, and finally--".

Can I just say that this is my favourite model that you've painted on the channel so far? xD I really love the model, that definitely helps, but the paintjob looks super beautiful to me. And I'm not talking about quality of the paintjob alone, because I know that you can paint at a much higher level (and I'm not saying this is low level either xd) but the thing is that in the final shots of the mini, I just kept thinking "wow, that is beautiful, man...". So yeah, just wanted to say that.

Great video bud :-) Last month iI was painting two Batman Miniatures Game minis it was going ok and then I messed the whole thing up on both!! of them I was using oil washes and well I forgot to change my sponge (It was like 3 am I do night work and this was the night before I was to start it for the week so I stay up late to sleep in the morning and be up on time for work) all I done was rub the oils together mixing them and I left them a bit too long, Just messed it all up, I tried to fix it and nope! So I was about to just stop for the night but I didn't and I went on to paint another mini and it turned out to be one of my best ever painted minis :-) went from rock bottom to being surprised with myself.
