Spent many weekend afternoons there back in the 70's. We took our Air Force girl friends there and very much enjoyed the climb to the top as well. This is a very geologically active area. It lies at the peak exposure of the transverse range and its all-too-predictable contribution to the history of plate tectonics. In college, we had sample arrays in the hot spring in order to monitor radon levels. Somebody had the idea that we could predict earthquakes that way. This spring is great...one of the last bits of Old California. And, yes, there are always some idiots that bring glass bottles. Always sweep the bottom of the lower pool for glass. The blue-green color cast is from the sulphur that has been oxidized. As for the "silt" : That is coming up from the depths of the magma plume below central California. It's just a high-silica granule silt so just imagine that is the "magma sand" of our planet.

The trouble with a pool is that it fills with whatever comes down from upstream. I would wager that the top pool is cleaned by good samaritans but they don't bother with the smaller one. An hour with a bucket may be initially messy but rewarding on that lower one. Don't ask why I know...😁

The Enchanted Tiki Room is hosted by four macaws, who share the majority of the dialogue for the show, and they each represent different countries. Imagineers used colors from each nation's flag for their plumage, and they have accents intended to match their country's English dialect. Jose is from Mexico and has red, white, and green feathers. Michael is Irish, with green and white feathers. Fritz, the German bird, is red, yellow, and white. Finally, Pierre, who is pictured above, is a French parrot, with red, white, and blue plumage.

But what you really need to worry about is coming back to your ride w all the windows broken out and stuff stolen. This spot is a hub for people to get their cars broken into almost daily now. Be careful. I know this is a "great fancy" area. The freeway being so close makes this a perfect spot for people who have very bad intentions. Nice to see you in my area. If like to recommend you hike Nojoqui falls. It says its closed, but its not really, its just a warning. Super beautiful 10 minutes hike to the 100 ft waterfall
