Another quick and easy project perfect to give as Christmas Gifts or to add to Christmas Gift Packs. I usually call my Bath Salts Soaking Salts and tell people they can also be used in foot spas!
The two online stores I mention for Aussies to buy Nature's garden fragrances are
Kody's Candles: bit.ly/kodyscandles
Fragrance Shed (Big Trees): bit.ly/fragranceshed
I have included my recipe below but as with the Bath Milk, this can easily be tweaked to make your own by adding different botanicals and salts.
91% Salts (himalayan, epsom salt, rock salts, sea salt etc - avoid Black Sea Salt)
7% Botanicals (Rose petals, Calendula, Chamomile, lavender, nettle etc)
1% Natrasorb
1% Fragrance or Essential Oil - be sure to check usage guidelines and adjust accordingly

Thank you for sharing. I had a question- when we use essential oils do we need to use a carrier oil? I have seen some recipes with that and some who dry their salts out before bottling.
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 3 жыл бұрын
EOs need to be diluted before applying to the skin and the most popular way is to dilute in a carrier oil. However, if you start adding oil to salts, you need to start thinking about solubisers too so as not to make a oil slick in the bath water. Adding a small amount of EO to the natrasorb will help it to blend with the water and a carrier oil is not needed. People who are adding to salt and then drying our, are not using natrasorb. The natrasorb makes the oil dry until hitting the bath water.

@SoyandShea

Bicarbonate of soda/baking soda is a water softener so adding it to bath salts can be a good thing. You need to be careful if also adding citric acid as the two react and can cause packaging to burst open or break if moisture gets in and starts starts Chemical reaction

You can use diluting carrier oil with the little EO/FO as a mix, and dry the whole finished batch in a tray overnight or for a few days so they’re have no moisture or reactions with the bicarbonate or citric. And so the salts pour freely as a very dry ingredients before packaging the. Nice info on the tapioca absorbing ingredient mind you, I didn’t know about that - makes sense. So many different ways to do something, anything - mother nature is awesome!

How do you know if the natrasorb is not to wet/dry? Is there a certain feel to it?
@SoyandShea

What is exactly natrasorb? Can I use tapioca starch? the one sold at supermarket?
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 5 жыл бұрын
Natrasorb is a modified tapioca starch. It's much more refined than the type you buy in the supermarket and can hold its wait in liquid without clumping like tapioca. It also dissolves really easily in water. You can use tapioca starch but it will look very clumpy.

@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 5 жыл бұрын
It's very hard to replace Natrasorb. It's a modified or really fine tapioca starch. I have tried with tapioca flour/starch but the results are not as good as it clumps together. The reason for using it is to keep the salts dry. Adding it straight to you salts may cause them to sweat and look bad in the packaging. Which country are you in?

Thank you for watching ❤ From all the research I've done, when soaking I salts, you absorb a lot of the minerals which can affect people with high blood pressure- particularly Epsom salts

That is actually the opposite of the medical advice I've received. Epsom salts are high in magnesium, and magnesium is recommended to lower blood pressure, as well as relaxing the muscles and assisting with sleep.

thanks for sharing, so the salts are not put directly into the water...in the bag as tea....
@SoyandShea

It's a personal preference. Some will tip the salt mix straight into the water but then some like me hate floaty bits in the water so I put in a bag. The salts still dissolve and the florals still seep into water but not floaty bits 😊

Hi, thank you for your video! I am looking forward to make my own bath salt. I have a question. Just to get the math right. You say: 1% Fragrance or Essential Oil. If I am going to make 100 grams of bath salth, would that be 1 grams (mililiter) of essential oil?

@@SoyandShea So I googled it some more and some essential oils are heavier than others. But 1%, does that mean 1ml or 1grams.
@SoyandShea
@SoyandShea 3 жыл бұрын
@@quincy120 it's all to do with the specific gravity or the density of the liquid. 1ml of water will equal 1ml but something like castor oil weighs more than water so 1g of castor oil will be less than 1ml. Same with EO. Some are heavier or lighter than others

The body can absorb salt while in a salt bath and this can increase blood pressure. Of you google it, you'll find quite a number of medical articles on it
