Useful, smart, level-headed discussion.Thank you. The importance of a recession may be overblown. If the Fed aggresively inflates the money supply in response to declines in GDP, the effects on speculative investments may be minimal and short lived. The reduction in QT may outweigh the effects of higher for longer. M2 in the US has gone up for the past couple of quarters. The Fed may be ready to fund wobbly banks at the drop of a hat. Go gold and silver.

Gold over valued? Dow index 18 ounces of gold in 1929, 95 years ago, Dow at 18 ounces in 2017 to 2024. Silver? Two silver dimes bought a gallon of gasoline in 1950's and still does in 2024, seventy years later. Long term wealth, store in silver and gold. Short term use credits. The average person does not understand the IOU hoax, believing debt notes are actually money. Credits are not money.

Why are people fixated on the price of gold & silver ? It does not matter what the price of gold is when the SHTF. Why, because it has a 2nd party factor to it. In other words, if I need to buy food for my family and all I have is gold I must get dollars to buy food. That means, I must find someone that will exchange my gold for dollars that they have accumulated. But, why would they depart with inflated dollars for gold if they too need food for their family ? They will not do it. You cannot buy food with Gold & silver in the USA.

If real estate housing is a hedge against inflation, then how can one explain comercial real estate troubles? Not too long ago comercial real estate was indestructable, even under low occupancy rates the business stayed afloat for decades, until it didn't! Think WTC 24 years ago, it was always under threat of low occupancy rate, until it came down! Today companies are defaulting on comercial real estate and I suspect some will be demolished to decrease supply, pushing the price up. Otherwise the banks will go belly up... Why can't the same happen to housing? Under the present economic paradigm, it either goes up or it comes down, but it won't stay the same, and it can't go up forever either!!

Your guest is clueless about American politics. As it is today, "the government" is a synonym for "the corporations". Mussolini spoke of “that great, immense, living organization which is the national Corporate State of Fascism”, but ours is an inverted totalitarianism where economics bests politics (1). Corporations spend more lobbying than the combined payroll and other costs of running both houses of congress, and this doesn’t include money in political campaigns (2). Congress only votes on laws written by corporate lawyers. Influence over actual policy outcomes appears to be reserved almost exclusively for those at the top of the income distribution. (3). 1.) Look for “The Powell Memo” 2.) Look for “The Atlantic lobbying spending” 3.) Look for “Princeton Public Opinion Study”
