This is how a 50% drop in gold price could happen - Lobo Tiggre

Even though a bear case for gold is unlikely to happen, investors should not be sailing with their eyes closed and ignore the possibility of a pivot in fiscal and monetary policies, which would drag gold prices down, said Lobo Tiggre of the Independent Speculator.
“It’s not something that keeps me up at night. It is something worth thinking about,” Tiggre said. “Here’s the scary thing, [gold] could go quite low. If you look at the big correction in the middle of the 1970s bull market, that was on the order of 50%.”

@Peter Pan $250 in 2000, $1925 in 2011 for a gain of $1675. Half of that is a drop of 840(ish). 1925-840 = 1085. A nearly perfect 50% retracement. I think we are in a new bull since the end of 2015. It should run for another 4 years or so. I believe that another 50 percent drop during this bull run is extremely unlikely.

You don't 'pull forward' monetary stimulus. It's not like issuing debt, where economic activity is pulled forward from the future, magnifying current profitability, and acting as a drag on growth going forward as the debt accumulates (i.e. the long term debt cycle). There is no limit to monetary stimulus. You can always print more.

I'm not convinced this bear case holds water. I don't see less money printing coming out of COVID with the current administration. I see higher levels of government spending on stimulus, and even if you don't expect COVID related stimulus I see welfare program extensions that result in government dollars being directed at renewable energy, M4A, student loans, minimum wage increases, etc... I'll remain bullish on gold, and even more so on silver and copper.

Warning lights flashed when the guest called the 2020 rise "artificial." That's a sloppy and naïve use of a word that seldom applies to financial or commodity markets. He was looking for _temporary, passing,_ or _ephemeral,_ Even _natural_ would still be a more correct word for it than _artificial._ Artificial should be reserved for price swings owing to things (including intentional market manipulation) which do not reflect underlying supply and demand. The pandemic and the monetary response to it legitimately affected the demand for gold.

What the FED was going to raise interest rates before covid? Huh? They tried that end of 2018. and guess what... the FED did an about face ... market dropped badly. Never going to happen now.

They got to 2% and the market crashed. Don't think the market can handle anything more than 0% with the amount of debt they have

There will no rebound. What is he speaking about raising interest rate? With all the debts, 2021 will be worse than 2020, when insolvencies and bankrupcies go up. People live on check and pay nothing right now. We will certainly have a financial crisis. Look at Europe, US... Russia and China have gold to back their money when euro and usd will crash.

Trend for gold? $20 in 1920, $35 in 1935, $800 in 1980, $2,020 in 2020. Is there a pattern here? LOL. Gold is always one ounce of gold. The paper fake dollar with squiggles on it loses purchasing power year after year after year. Seems to be a trend. Just saying.

Probably gold won’t go higher but there’s no way it will go down too much further If the price was already set I can’t see why it should go lower

He really doesn't understand how markets move. We are about to see a major push upward in gold. Gold will leave everyone thinking like him behind. - The bump in gold price at the end of the last multi-year trend was absolutely in the charts before it happened. However, the details of the bump wasn't, but if you look at DJIA and look at the top in February/March, you will see the same kind of move there as well.
