Gave a car away and removed the stereo with Sirius and the works, dreaming of the day I would just run it from inside the house and also off grid with a second set up for solar and battery. That day has come and your simple wood project is a very cool part of it. Thank you Sir!

Brilliant. I'm a new hobbiest and have 1976 Marantz and Sansui gear. This would be a great project and maybe even a way to get cool lighting and great sound using some 1926 and 1927 radios I have. I've disassembled the radios, done repairs to the wood veneers and set aside the insides (I don't feel comfortable with working on tube gear and it's extremely high voltages). This seems like a great way to build another great sounding, unique setup.

I was going to use a PC ATX power supply with a breakout board for the 12v but this video reminded me that I have a bunch of those 12v power supplies that I kept from old devices so i can just use one of those and it'll take up less space for starters! Absolutely great idea. Well done. On the last video you put up, I just put new tires on the bobcat and foam filled them. What a difference that makes. Turns/skids much smoother and has more traction. If you ever do get one try this out. It wasn't cheap. The foam costs about as much as the tires. But I think it is worth it for the performance.
@SoatMon5 жыл бұрын
I've been interested in foam in some tires but never found a source I could afford, maybe one day it will get cheaper. I tried the great stuff foam idea in some old riding mower tires but it didn't work at all. I didn't cut them open but I don't think it foamed up completely. Why do you think it improves the performace, is the ride softer or stiffer? Thanks for telling me about it.
@glennfelpel97855 жыл бұрын
Right, yes I tried the great stuff too but it didn't work for me either. Then I went to a farm/industrial tire place who sold tractor tires. They have the ability to put foam into any tire. It takes 24 hours to cure and the tires need to stay on their rack for curing. I did my lawn mower tires as well. I would do more but it is a pain to always take the tires to that tire place and it is expensive too. The reason I did it for the skid steer is that the side walls get very stiff and they don't flex while skidding/turning even on pavement. I don't know about the ride as the bobcat isn't a great ride to begin with. But they are definitely harder, much harder. I don't think you would want to do it on just any tractor if ride is important. You can NOT do it on tires you want to run on the road, they will overheat, I am told. I have a small blade-moor grader and for that the foam tires was a great advantage in the extra weight on the ground. My tires probably weight 300 lb. each when filled. and that makes for more traction. But your water filled tires do that too. For me I think it is the stiffer side walls on the bobcat and grader that is the greatest advantage.

I bought a $50 one of these on clearance by JVC. plays everything but CDs. I have two 150 watt speakers hooked to it and have it powered by an old PC power supply. It cranks pretty loud but the stereo struggles at high volume, it's only like 40 watts and the speakers are good speakers. Could never figure out the memory backup the wire that is always live so I just wired both positive together and the radio will work as long as you keep the power supply on but my garage has switches that turn off the power.
@SoatMon4 жыл бұрын
To get them memory backup to work you need a 12v battery. If you will hook up a 12v battery to it, it will retain you settings when you turn it off or unplug it.

@SoatMon2 жыл бұрын
On this stereo and most car stereos there is a wire there are 3 wires for power. The negative one that goes to the chassis or neg post of the battery. One that goes to the ignition switch that turns the stereo on when the car is turned on and one that goes to the positive post of the battery that maintains the memory in the radio. Find the schematic for your stereo and it should show you, many time it is printed on the stereo itself. Good luck.

I didnt do the math, but I wouldnt doubt that. I suppose it should be fine as long as its not cranked up while playing songs with a lot of bass, but a greater amperage charger would help for sure. You could also take a look at the fuse on the stereo and see what its rated for and go off that.
