I just wanna say different things work for different people ..I use to be addicted to c*ke n a few prescription p*lls, whilst smoking bud evday n taking other dr*gs when I could (sp**d, md*a, k*temine) and being 'california sober' helped me immensely and saved my life ..if it wasn't for sm*king bud I know I would've k*lld myself 100%, I was too depressed n messed up without an escape....in the height of my addiction i was so blind to consequences but after my third o.d (2 from c*ke,1 m.d) i just didnt want to do it anymore n i was lucky enough to be a hyperchondriac n rly dislike bein poorly in anyway n was just done... i went from c*ke n prescription everyday to just bud everyday.. a few months later I was offered c*ke socially n I did it but I never saw it as a relaspe ..I already just knew I was ready to not fall into doin it regularly n that I didn't wanna be in hospital again ..so I went from just bud everyday to also c*ke socially once every 4 months or so .. n I stuck to it (not great for your health but not enough to lose all your money, family or worst... life)..yrs later i was offered sp**d n underestimated the strength of it and had a overd*se from it doin too much that nite..even tho i wasnt addicted anymore i just knew i didnt wanna touch anything but bud agen, wasnt worth the risk..even on days i wanted to be r.i.p'd I didn't wanna pass ln such a horrible way. that was about a Yr ago n haven't touched anything but bud since then n declined offers many times and have even reduced bud to a few times a week, instead of everyday and never been happier or healthier n it works great for me. Life is pretty good rn. So ultimatly different things work for different ppl. So I suggest trying what works for u. If i didnt have bud id have unalived a long time ago n I'm just grateful I WANTED to be clean from being add*cted to the serious stuff even wen I went bk to doing it casually for a lil while. I gave myself a limit n I stuck to it..but again I was lucky enough to just be over it mentally naturally.. I hope the same for everyone struggling.. (just without 4 o.ds lol) life can be beautiful u just have to work at it n search n find the good.. also therapy helps lol

She now knows sober means sober. Not California sober. Sober means sober. Getting clean means all substances. I am proud of Demi and hope she keeps fighting the battle.

I forget that not everyone grew up with Disney like I did lmfao. She was everywhere! Camp Rock (the movie they show where she's holding a microphone) and Sonny with a Chance were her two big projects. She actually had to leave Sonny to get treatment

She was so prevalent growing up as a 23 year old. Barney is where it began and my journey hasn’t ended yet with her. This series or documentary whatever you wanna call it absolutely tugged at my heart strings and I definitely cried seeing her now makes my heart not hurt so much for her shes grown and is very loved. it’s sad to see how many people have failed her

Demi has done 3 docos & they've all mainly been about her being sober. She did one after her first time in rehab think was on mtv & then the second doco you actually find out she wasn't sober during that first doco. I'd suggest watching the other docs too first one might be a bit hard to find.

Thank you for reacting to this ❤ I was on pain meds for years for my disability and was lucky enough that when I did get off them I realized I didn’t have an addiction to them (my fam and friends would say I must be after all that time) but I can empathize and also have been SA’d and have had body dysmorphia and eating disorders my whole life too. These documentaries are so dang important. I agree with what you said at the end where they could’ve told this story more throughly in the doc. Seemed like they were trying to fit it all down to the amount of episodes it would be. I cry every time I see the doc or when I see a reaction to it. ❤

I commented this on your Patreon but Demi identifies as non-binary and goes by they/them OR she/her - BOTH is correct. But I usually use they/them. Since you don't really know much (or anything) about their story, it really goes back to their childhood, specifically their birth father. They talked about him a bit in this doc but they've also written several songs about him, which I recommend listening to (specifically For the Love of a Daughter and Father). They were also bullied as a kid, mainly for their weight which contributed to their eating disorder (along with competing in beauty pageants), and they started homeschooling. That also led to them self-harming/cutting from the age of 11 along with saving suicidal thoughs even when they were as young as 7. Demi starred on Barney between ages 10-12 along with Selena Gomez (she is seen in the clip with them). They were best friends. After a short-lived series on Disney called As The Bell Rings they starred with the Jonas Brothers in Camp Rock (which was their "big break"). They also had their own show called Sonny With A Chance and their own solo music career, which was heavily pop/rock/punk influenced. They were touring with the Jonas Brothers when they went to a treatment facility in the fall of 2010, after an incident which ended with them punching one of their friends/dancers on a plane. In 2022, Demi said they began using opiates at age 13 after a car accident and had already started drinking by that time. They said that this eventually led them to use cocaine at 17. After treatment in 2011, they lived in a "sober house" for a while but later admitted they weren't actually sober. Demi's father, Patrick, died from cancer in 2013 when they were 20 and he was 53. As they said, they didn't really have a relationship. He was mentally ill (bipolar schizophrenia) and an addict. He was also abusive to their mom, though Demi was only 2 when their parents divorced so they didn't really remember him. Their mom Dianna soon married their stepfather Eddie (who Demi considers their dad), and they had Madison, Demi's half-sister. They also have an older sister, Dallas. I'm gonna take a wild guess and assume you have not seen Desperate Housewives, but Madison starred on the later seasons of that show as Eva Longoria's daughter. Demi, Dianna and at least Dallas have all struggled with an ED and Demi & Dianna have both struggled with substance abuse. Not sure if Madison dealt with that but she was bullied for her weight when she was younger which really affected her self-esteem. The overdose happened on July 24th 2018, a month after Demi had released the single Sober (where they revealed they had relapsed after six years of sobriety). Demi's assistant Jordan, the doctors, nurses and everyone who helped Demi recover saved their life and I will forever be grateful. The video for the song Dancing with the Devil is a detailed re-creation of the events of that night, right down to the green jacket they wore, their hair (which they had cut when it was filmed), the look of the drug dealer etc. The fact that they were able to re-create one of the worst nights of their life is amazing and incredibly brave. Also, I'm not gonna say his name because I don't want to give him the satisfaction, but after Demi's OD their drug dealer did a weird ass interview with TMZ where he claimed Demi knew what drugs they were (in spite of him not even knowing it fully) and that they had consensual sex. He was obviously high as a kite and not willing to take responsibility for anything. I think he was arrested for heroin possession some time later but I doubt he got any real punishment for it. I agree that the pacing of this doc feels a little weird. I recommend Demi's other documentaries; Stay Strong on MTV in 2012 (which goes more into their ED, self-harm and bipolar diagnosis) and Simply Complicated on KZbin in 2017 (which goes more into their addiction and backstory). In Simply Complicated they admitted that they were under the influence of cocaine while being interviewed about their sobriety in Stay Strong. In this doc they talk about being "California sober" but later that year, in December 2021, they became "sober sober" as it was not working for them. Songs I recommend: Don't Forget Believe In Me Skyscraper For The Love of a Daughter Fix a Heart Lightweight Warrior Nightingale In Case Shouldn't Come Back Father Stone Cold Tell Me You Love Me You Don't Do It For Me Anymore Smoke & Mirrors Fall in Line with Christina Aguilera Sober Anyone Dancing with the Devil I Love Me Still Have Me Commander in Chief Skin of my Teeth Substance Happy Ending 29
