This is still one of my favorite episodes 😭💔 Fiona and Lip's self destruction and downfalls due to alcoholism even after witnessing Frank be drunk their whole life was so hard to watch but a little too relatable 😋 great reaction ❤

One element that always occurs with the Gallaghers is when they are reminded or warned that they might be becoming Frank about things, they immediately stop what they are doing and it makes them get their shit together. Lip's bar scene is an example.

The scene with Ian makes me cry as a bipolar individual. As someone who watched her mother make herself smaller because of the disease I swore, I never would.

I’m glad that you changed from saying he was overcoming it to him accepting it. There’s a massive difference. With bi polar people will be feeling positive and everybody assumes they’re doing well and making progress. That’s not the case at all and not how the illness works. The whole point of it is that you are sometimes very happy and motivated and others you’re very down and depressed and basically stop caring for everyone and everything including yourself. Telling people they’re making progress for being positive sets them up to not see the downward spiral coming and get completely taken by it.

frank is an ass but he can tell a liar when he sees one. Each of the kids have traits of there parents just a matter of if they will let those inner demons win

yeah in my opinion that scene at the wedding, frank went about it the wrong way but for once he absolutely did the right thing he said "this dude is like me, but worse because he's also a liar. I'm not letting my daughter marry the liar version of me, she deserves better than that"

You’re projecting a paternalism that isn’t there in frank. He didn’t want better for Fiona, he was lashing out because he felt excluded. He stayed when uninvited and made a speech to make it all about him

Dominique’s dad was being quite paternalistic with controlling her dress, and threatening to murder Carl if he had an uncontrollable biological reaction. Comes from a long history of fathers basically owning their daughters virginity/sexuality. Of course the control with ‘protection’ as its disguise, did/does not extend to sons. You said you would probably be the same way if you had a daughter. But I know the video is heavily edited, and that might not have been what you meant
@7DeadlyBananas

I disagree with this a lot, in this case. Carl was a wannabe gangster selling guns like yesterday. And setting boundaries for your children is what parents are suppose to do.

@@7DeadlyBananas remember in Twilight how Charlie (Bella’s dad) hated Edward? He took every chance he got to make it clear to her that he didn’t like him, and thought he was a bad influence (getting injured and disappearing several times without much explanation, pulling away from her friends, being depressed and having night terrors when he moves away). He even makes a few light hearted jokes about killing him. Charlie managed to do all that without controlling Bella. Yes, kids do need boundaries, and given Dominique’s age and what Carl had gotten into, I think it’s debatably fair for him to not let her date him at all. But he does. He seems to begrudgingly accept them as a couple, but it’s the idea of them having sex (or Carl so much as thinking about it) that really bothers him. It follows a very recognizable pattern, even if perhaps the writers didn’t intend it that way. But if they wanted to make it more about Carl/the guns, ‘be home by (insert time here)’ and ‘I don’t trust him. Text me every hour’ would make more sense as boundaries. We don’t see their full side of the story, or have a boyfriend other than Carl to compare with, so it’s hard to know for sure. Girls can be a bad influence, too, so it’s difficult to see the daughter comment (as opposed to kid) as just a coincidence. I mean if your son’s girlfriend had got into some illegal shit, would your way of protecting him involve telling him to go change his outfit?
@7DeadlyBananas
@7DeadlyBananas 4 ай бұрын
I don’t think the two are connected. The outfit thing is a separate issue and I’m pretty sure he would tell her to change her outfit if they were alone or Carl wasn’t even there. Him calling Carl out and threatening him, is only confirming what he’s saying. Is my take on that. And the role reversal is a different situation. Boys/guys don’t typically wear revealing clothing at gatherings or whatnot. It’s more an attitude adjustment or respect type of thing and yes, absolutely, I would check my “son” if that were a thing as well. And regards to him threatening, there’s a big difference between saying and doing. Carl sitting down, confirming he got a boner from the outfit should have still drove the father crazy if he was seriously threatening Carl. Not even Carl takes him THAT seriously when he is threatened in this way. If he actually felt his life was in danger and would be killed, I think Carl’s reaction would have been very different than to just sit down and make it obvious that he got turned on by his daughter. But this dudes a cop, who deals with dudes like Carl regularly. And has no reason to think Carl is ANY different, until Carl has gone through the motions. That’s not even just in this situation but now in every situation he’s in, as he attempts to turn his own life around and get out of the game he was in. Literally everyone who attempts to do so must go through these kinds of trials. It’s simply a form of accountability for the actions they’ve taken up until this moment. Carl deciding one day he’s going to start making better decisions, and even wanting to be a cop, doesn’t automatically absolve him of aaaaaallllllllllll the shit he’s pulled up until that choice is made. On top of all that, I think the controlling thing is contradicted by the willingness to let his daughter continue seeing Carl in the first place. If he was the overbearing/controlling father figure you’re mentioning, I really doubt he would allow that to happen at all. Which of course would have its own reactions/consequences if it went that way I’m sure. I think he’s a hard ass but a good cop who’s giving Carl a chance regardless of his own instincts and experience. And he’s laying it down hard for Carl in a way that Carl will not have any problem understanding. In Carls language, so to speak. Probably also knows that Carl doesn’t have much of a father figure or any real good influences in his life.
