One of the better passing patterns that I've seen. So many touches per kid! There is even a lot of decision making. This was awesome training in 2013. Few clubs today, however, are doing this stuff as much as they used to at the young ages outside of England and the U.S. The global method (i.e. rondos, rondos, and more rondos) has triumphed over the old analytical method in almost every respect. The idea is that rondos give you the same touches, but the young player is constantly under pressure in tight space and thus constantly having to make decisions when doing rondos. That cognitive aspect of the rondo makes it superior to analytical training. At least, that is the current thinking. Who knows what trend will come in the future. In any case, these passing patterns would still be a great way to impress parents (particularly non-Spanish speaking Americans) who are unfamiliar with the rondo revolution. Parents love passing patterns that look cool and flashy even if they don't train their kids as well as the rondo. To illustrate what I mean, look at 2:30. The kids in blue aren't receiving the ball with the proper foot when the action speeds up. The kids in green are. Something is wrong here. Either the players are supposed to trap with the correct foot (like the greens) or they are supposed to be moving forward with the first touch (like the blues). It's as if the greens and blues are doing completely different drills with respect to receiving the ball (which is strange for analytical training). The way the Spanish teach rondos teaches kids to receive the ball with the correct foot every time unless there is a reason not to do so. The first touch, moreover, is often too heavy in these analytical drills. A real defender would win the ball way too often, and that's why the defender (in tight space) is almost always preferred in training these days. Indeed, proper rondo training (with proper instruction) naturally fixes these problems while training the young brain to make quick decisions, which is why most clubs around the world have adopted rondo training for kids.

These are some of the best coaching videos on youtube and no surprise they are from a professional football club. Good coaches make difficult topics look easier.

The situation is you have a mess in the enclosed area, but still, no one tries to close you down. Imho, just a fancy drill that can be replaced with better, more specific ones.

What type of sessions or drills will follow after a warm-up session like this?
@rchrdbenge10 жыл бұрын
If I were coach, I would follow this warm-up with building up from the back. If you have a full team, scrimmage in 5-6 player teams on a small field with a target player on each end that you are trying to play to. Objective is to use passing combinations to open the defense and pass to the target player to score.

Fred Roland. I will take any group and pass slower than you advise and beat you every time. I did not mean to pass so slow it can be intercepted. I mean pass the ball so that you do not slow the player down. Game called Rhondo, The group that passes under control will win, not the group that passes hard causing the player to trap the ball. Real Soccer the ball does not stop and go at each pass. The pace moves and the ball does not stop. Would love to coach a game against you.

Nice activity but he wants the ball "fired in" which slows the play down because they have to trap the ball or gain control.
@freroll679 жыл бұрын
john vallandingham You can't pass a ball slow...in a game it will get intercepted and you 've lost possession. Passes must be crisp. If a player can't handle it then they need to practice their ball handling.
@squirrelcatcher8 жыл бұрын
Trouble is it forces the head down. Slow passes are no good either, the ball needs to stroked in, not fired in. So often the ball that is fired in comes up the body of the receiver, giving a control issue.
@goswas6 жыл бұрын
In high level training, during practice , we intentionally "fire" in , while still trying to keep ball on ground and trap neat as well. Idea is during game, when legs are tired and intensity is high, the "firing" speed is actually 70% of practice. so, firing-in during practice builds stamina and confidence for game situations.

More English teams should play like thIs, I mean look at England national team can you imagine them playing quick touches and possession like that, their tactics never change and aren't effective
