His genius is undoubtedly one of a kind and it seems highly unlikely that we will witness someone similar in our lifetime. Messi is unarguably one of those few players who would shadow any other great player. Is the Rosarino (from Rosario) the best player ever? Lest he remains at least in the same bracket as Maradona, Pele and Cruyff when he decides to hang up his boots. There’s no doubt that we will tell tales of Messi to the next generations a few decades from now. We'd sooner revel in his greatness, watching on this video than making senseless comparisons. The great Wayne Rooney said it best: “Don’t write about him, don’t try to describe him. Just watch him.”

Verdy is spot on. Messi doesn't find spaces, he creates them. Watch how he slices through the backline, and beckons the goalie to shift his right expecting Messi, a left footed to strike towards his left while the backline fans out following him as they expect him to angle further left but then he crosses the ball to his right fooling goalkeeper+defenders. They never had a chance. Messi can run with the ball at a hundred percent full speed. Count the touches he takes on the count of one hand. The ball is just glued/tied to his foot. Virtually impossible to counter!... Wait, what? Who says Maradona, also short and left-footed? In my humble opinion Messi is better than Maradona; more complete, more consistent, more spectacular. Simply put Messi reinvented the game - a mix of the real and the virtual.

I've watched how wonderfully he keeps his knees in when he dribbles, how close he keeps the ball while moving at speed, and how his short quick strides enable him to balance through traffic. I can only imagine his brain reacting to body shifts by defenders and using that knowledge instantly. His mastery of field vision and complete focus when he has the ball makes everyone want to know what it feels like to fill those shoes just once.

I really like your reaction and the video you chose. I’ve watched almost every single goal live back in the days and thinking, what kids will think in the future. I mean I’m 42 and also saw Maradona world champion when I was 6 years old, yes I remember every match. And then I moved to New York on the 90’s and moved back to Argentina 2 years ago and was lucky to see all these cups my country is winning here. But of course now is like a cliche to like Messi. Back on ‘06 I was going around New York trying to show the few KZbin videos of Messi there were at the time. And nobody payed attention. Verdy, c'était un aperçu incroyable d'un si grand joueur. J'ai joué au football (soccer) au lycée et j'ai beaucoup marqué grâce à ma vitesse. J'ai couru 9,8 100 verges chronométrées sur trois haies à l'époque. Avant de passer à la métrique dans le sport) !! Alors j'en avais plein de speed mais on n'avait pas de jeux interscolaires quand j'étais au lycée. Donc, j'ai joué au baseball et j'étais dans l'équipe d'athlétisme. Tous mes 5 petits-fils sont assez doués pour le football (soccer). Premièrement, mon petit-fils Hudson Kazmer faisait même partie de l'équipe du championnat américain de son groupe d'âge et a joué à Barcelone aux championnats du monde des enfants. Ils n'y ont pas gagné mais ils ont joué sur le même terrain que les hommes quand Messi y a joué. Mon petit-fils aîné, Kaito Zaitsu, joue maintenant dans une équipe masculine alors qu'il va à l'université. Merci d'avoir montré une si belle vidéo. Barry
