Soccer star Ali Krieger announces retirement from professional soccer

Ali Krieger, long-time U.S. Women's National Team and National Women's Soccer League defender, joins "CBS Mornings" to exclusively announce her retirement from professional soccer at the end of this season with Gotham FC. The two-time World Cup champion has become an advocate for pay equity for female athletes and the LGBTQ+ community.

"Krieger" in German means, 'warrior.' Ali didn't know this until she joined FFC Frankfort and her teammates had to tell her. What kind of warrior After winning 2015 World Cup, team manager, Jill Ellis ignored her going into 2019 WC. Running out of defensive options right before 2019 WC, Ellis had to swallow some pride and invited Krieger to join the team. Krieger was on the field for all 540 minutes that USWNT held opponents scoreless winning the 2015 WC. Always thought of as the fastest USWNT player, her subtle character waylaid her. But, she was on the pitch and collected a WC medal at the end of 2015. Younger girls pushed her out of the 2019 starting lineup. But Kelley O'Hara playing right back took a bad head knock late in the first half of the WC final against the Neatherlands and Krieger subbed in. All Krieger had to do was shut down Lieke Martens and/or Vivienne Miedeme... No simple task! If you watch the second half of that final, you never see Martens or Miedema because the Neatherlands knew Krieger had them in her pocket. Full warrior mode! When the final whistle blew, we finally got to see Krieger.. walking up to the podium to collect her second WC gold medal.

ALI Krieger says that Gotham FC will win a title? I doubt that likely. Gotham FC are not contenders they are pretenders. You have to beat Portland thorns to win a title. Gotham FC are not gonna a title even if ALI Says they will….they have to play well in order to become title contenders.
