Patriot Act has also allowed the FBI to much much more easily gain access to warrants from FISA courts. My family’s house was raided 6 years ago over some petty BS my brother was doing. Essentially he impersonated one of his employees to access their online website. The employee later was fired and was able to get 30 plus FBI agents to bust into our house at 5:00 am guns loaded. My mom was scarred for life bc of it. I slept through them initially entering the house so when they got to my room upstairs they were on high alert wondering why I hadn’t come out. They banged on the door and stormed in. 4 different ppl 2 local cops 2 FBI agents had their guns drawn on me. They then escorted me down stairs and proceeded to take every electronic device in the house except our phones bc they have this device that loads all the phones info onto it. Anyways they took thousands of dollars worth of electronics and it was pretty traumatic. 6 years later nothing has been returned and my brother has yet to be charged with anything.

The two craziest events I’ve had relating to this are: 1. I went to a bar the other day to meet with a friend which is something I very rarely do and was wearing a dad hat with a specific quote embroidered in it. I hadn’t wore this hat in a while. While I was at the bar, I scrolled through my Instagram for a little bit and get an ad for the same exact hat with the same exact quote. Not a word was said about it ever which makes me assume my front camera was the culprit. 2. I was wearing my favorite shorts one day. I’ve had them for like 5 years and are very worn down but they’re super comfy. I got an H&M ad on Instagram for the same exact shorts which I got at H&M way back then. Again nothing was said about them so camera?

Terms of service agreements are known as contracts of forced adhesion. If you don't agree to it, then you can't use the product or service. Of course, nobody is ever going to read a TOS agreement. How many of us are contract lawyers on our days off or do it as an actual profession and for a living? The average citizen has to roll with the notion that anything you use, tech related, will track you and store and sell your data. If it's free to use, pretty much assume you are now a product being bought and sold by the company who made it.
@laneythelame2 жыл бұрын
Totally true i realized a while ago there is no choice, i cant disagree if i still want to use the service, its all or nothing

So don't use the product? Why shouldn't you have to agree to someone's terms to use their service? If a 7/11 has a sign that reads "No shirt, no shoes, no service"... Are you entitled to walk into someone else's business, naked, and demand service? Of course people using these services are a product being sold. Ever been on a "free cruise", where all you had to do was sit and listen to a time share presentation for 3 hours? It's the same thing, but I don't hear you complaining about Wyndham Hotels and Resorts... I got a "free cruise" to the Bahamas like that 5 years ago, I still get random calls from telemarketers trying to get me to go to various time share presentations by giving me "free" stuff to this day, because all my information is in some Wyndham database somewhere.

Yes. My friend has a knife business that also sells gun accessories and PayPal took $1500 from him for "damages dude to TOS violations" because PayPal doesn't want people to "certain gun accessories" or gun related things but it doesn't specifically say what. Also in PayPal TOS just about every product or service you can imagine is vaguely listed. So at any given time for any business, PayPal can take your money for "damages" and not face any consequences for doing so. Private companies can manipulate, exploit, and violate our rights in all kinds of ways.
@kingsqueak22212 жыл бұрын
@@smokingcrab2290 When it comes to guns and also weirdly nicotine products, Operation Chokepoint that was instituted during the Obama administration pressures banks to deny a method to transact business using political and regulatory threats. Many payment platforms as well as couriers like USPS and Fedex as examples, refuse to handle anything to do with firearms, ammunition or even accessories under this program. Right now an example of this is the Louis CK comedy specials, Paypal is a payment option and they refused my ability to pay using PayPal. Using the same CC directly, it went through. They are wielding access to your own money or the ability to use it for political reasons and that will continue to grow. A national ID card, vaccine passport or other centralized identity is the last brick in the wall. Once they require you to prove your ID for mundane daily transactions, they can simply click you out of existence. No question, they are trying to advance this in the U.S. and in Australia they already have a national ID campaign underway.

But this particular day one of my workers was feeling sick & I turned my data on to look up the closest store in the area & he was talking about how he gives his children Pedialyte when they're not feeling good. Didn't think much of it & later that day when I went to my HOME PC & got on YT, sure enough I started getting ads for Pedialyte, even though I was on my home PC. Tying things together based off of IP is easy. When ever you go to a new WiFi network and you get a different IP they can track you to your friends based off your digital signature that they follow. They then build databases on you and your friends, they know who is interacting with who where and when because of the data they can collect off you and your devices.

What has shocked me on a few occasions was getting ads after having thoughts of something without ever speaking about it. On one occasion I was thinking I should get some new running shoes, and boom there was the ad. Another time thinking about a new camping tent. No google searches, no mention to my coworkers about it nothing. Just a passing thought I entertained for a little bit. They have a lot more power than they let on.

It seems to be a common phenomenon even for me. I tend to think it's because they are constantly taking contextual clues and we probably dont realize we are leading into a thought process because of how jumbled our thoughts really tend to play out but when an algorithm is picking up on only a few things it sees our patterns before we do . Don't know if that's right at all but it's the only thing that keeps me from thinking I'm already being mindread😖

@@scottmcrae4427 i see a point there but i wonder who's taking clues from who? Maybe they are leading our thought process

The best thing to do is when you get bombarded by advertisements, shy away from that brand. There are off brands available, go after them.

I've been freaked out a couple of times lately when I've not been using my phone and say something out loud (I talk to myself a lot...and my cats...LOL) and suddenly my Android assistant replies. This one DJ in Albuquerque mentioned that he'd said some rare small store to a coworker he'd wondered about and when he went on his phone later, an ad for this obtuse shop appeared on Facebook.

The phones are listening. From my own experience. My friend is not interested in welding or any kind of mechanical engineering, while I work as a Mechanical Design Engineer. He had a problem (can't remember what it was) and I explained to him something about steel and welding. Then couple of hours later, after he got home, he sent me a screenshot from his laptop (he had his phone on him, the laptop was at home) were there was couple of adds, some were for welders and some were from building markets.

Earlier this year I was watching Eddie Murphy's classic stand up special "Delirious" from 1983. There's this part where the crowd gets really quite and Eddie asks "What's today's date?" Suddenly my phone started talking to tell me the date. I've had this phone for probably 2 years. I never knew it could do that. Nor do I know of any apps on it that can be programmed to do that.

Lack of even basic technical knowledge is a massive problem with almost all so-called conspiracy theories. For example...people keep blathering on about AI but all this 'AI' is that you refer to is a series of rules; data is passed in (ie your search history, previous purchases etc etc) and a result is spat out. Whether it's a KZbin feed, targeted advertisement etc, at a high level it all works in pretty much the same way. No AI, technomancy or dark magic needed, just rules, inputs and outputs. The problem with most conspiracy theorists is they lack baseline knowledge of the subject area, so inevitably sound like fools and, therefore, make the ideas they are espousing sound foolish.
