Social media is just like another big brand chain like a McDonald’s or Walmart. It’s everywhere now and saturated, so the pay gets lowered to compensate for everyone’s piece of the pie. The same can be applied to the music industry today and recording artists and producers alike are getting Pennie’s while the major labels are raking in the big checks for the CEO’s and corporate office.

I work in selling to chief marketing officers & marketing departments. The marketing budgets at major companies have been utterly slashed since the interest rates went up. No marketing budget means they aren't spending as much in ads and sponsorships. That is why infleuncers aren't getting paid as they do. If inflation is able to get back to control & interest rates get slashed, their marketing budgets will go back up and content creators will see that in their own revenue. 😊

The reality is that a lot of people's channels tanked when they tried to transition into becoming "lifestyle" influencers. People are starting to realize that they aren't nearly as important or interesting as they thought they were. Everyone is not a star nor does everyone posses a star quality. Adding actual value to your audiences by enriching them with the information/tools/skills they need to accomplish whatever it is you are an expert in will never go out of style. Dear heart, thank you! I've been seeing videos similar to this all over youtube, but without your candor and honesty. Thank you. I had been thinking of starting a channel for a few years now. Part of me was attracted to and repelled by the money angle. Part of me was truly nervous about putting myself out there for jackasses to harass. Part of me just wanted to have fun with it and screw the monetary stuff. It's funny, but now that the monetary pressure is pretty much off, I finally feel inspired to do my channel for ME. One thing any newbies need to keep in mind is that the gig economy (including youtube, uber eats, door dash, instagram, etc) was really only going to flourish during something like what happened with the pandemic. People were locked down, isolated, and in need of help and some sort of human-ish contact. Some of us made scads of money just delivering food! Others made videos that gave people a vicarious thrill (all the lifestyle/vanlife/etc stuff). Once people didn't need us anymore, the money stopped coming. My suggestion is similar to Nicole's, do it because you love it. There might be money in it, there might not. Maybe use it to promote your own creative business (that's what I'll be doing ... eventually ... if I ever get off my arse). I've seen several youtubers do this. Do not depend upon something as ephemeral as social media to support you. You'll be the flavour of the month, swimming in quick cash, only to have it all disappear when the public finds a new obsession.

Not necessarily. KZbin doesn’t use a pot system like TikTok. I won the KZbin black award in 2020 and got to speak directly with some KZbin employees. And they said revenue is all about the companies paying for ads. When social media in general is doing good, when people are actually buying from ads they see online, then you get paid more. Thats why December is always a profitable month for creators. But when there’s a recession, everyone’s broke/ trying to build savings, people are fed up with seeing ads online and quickly skip them, then the pay is less. It’s just about the time we’re in currently. It’s an ad hating period because everyone’s rightfully fed up of being pushed ads or ugc on EVERY single platform

I have lots of partnered channels. ad sense for me is amazing now when you mentioned finance that is true because the finance ad rates are way higher you get like $15 -$20 RPM for those videos. I have a gaming channel rates are $2-$3 RPM and my Tech channel is also $2-$3 RPM. the rates have actually stayed nearly the same over 4 years across the channels. I've had even increased on my education channel by $3 RPM. so I was at $7 now I get a avg of $10 RPM. So I think its just you arent getting the views you once was and your watchtime is low. That would be the only reason. However I feel like sponsorships have definitely slowed down and have went down in how much brands pay. that has taken a huge hit from when I started. So much more people are creating and why would a brand pay you $2,000 when they can pay this person over here whos just happy to be offered anything $150. Thats the only thing Ive noticed is the sponsorships are way more competitive and getting lower and lower in price. Ad sense though it has been extremely consistent for me yearly. the channel Im commenting with right now makes $100 every month and I haven't uploaded on it in 2 years. Its because views are consistent every month and the videos have 40-60% average view duration. I hope this helps anyone reading. you can do it! Just focus on watchtime and finding your audience!

I am so motivated to share my passion with people and I have to say sometime it is discouraging when nothing is happing, but I will not stop.Thank you Jazz, for sharing your experience. If the pie remains at $1,000,000, but there is now 100,000 content creators, KZbin can only afford to pay each creator $10. Bottom line, the content creator market has become saturated.

Cause I don't go f*** about KZbin so I don't care. I've been to make money. I don't need you to, but that's the problem. When something's good, it gets saturated when it gets saturated. It's boils the value of it like my wife lived. No, alternatively to dude, only fans wants to get saturated. It begins to go downhill. And that is too crowded. The rooms too crowded. I think people are just having influencer fatigue. There for sponsors and adds are not paying as much and that trickles to you. I also believe this is the case for the sponsors and companies advertising. The more influencers get investigated the more purchased subscribers and views get exposed. Making them wonder if it is worth it since KZbin, twitter, and Instagram do absolutely nothing to police that.

I was hooked by the number of creators on KZbin parading their lucrative payouts. I actually thought there was a new Industrial Revolution where the jobs lost to digitization of Labour-based processes would be replaced by creator platforms, as traditional jobs began to wane. I even took a course on creating video content, but procrastinated as I realized I did not have content-meaning I am not a creator. But as I was procrastinating during 2023 the reports of collapsing payouts began to emerge. This video and several others on the platform identify the problem. Perhaps the issue now is that the over-hyping of lucrative payouts has led to the over-supply of creators and videos beyond the limit of existing corporate ad-budgets? Or are platform operators simply maximizing their profits?

The algorithm right now makes it way easier for small channels then it used to be, which isnt good for long term because the moment people dont care about the content of a channel the ones they care about show up which makes channels like yours dissapear. It doesnt matter anymore if you have 5K subs or 1 million. Its also why so many people are selling 'products' online.
@Patrick-ox8nw5 ай бұрын
The reason is simple. The new Indian CEO of KZbin who took over made those economic changes. The previous CEO the lady was striking channels and shadow banning. It is not that the money is not there. The economy is down and KZbin is a company that has money but has been affected to a degree. I think KZbin will eventually change the qualifications to be monetized making it more difficult so that the creators that are partners can benefit from ad rev. One thing that would have improved this video is if you changed your location, a background change is always nice so from the couch to the kitchen as you're making something, to the balcony etc..

A bunch of "creators" really don't understand the social media game. You are basically paid as billboard, which means somebody put advertisements on you to sell something. Guess what? Companies have realized that influencing is not a cost-effective way to attract customers to their products and they are unwilling to put money towards that. On top of that, there is an economic "situation" going on, which means people have less disposable income to throw in products. To top it, there are now thousands of "billboards" around the corner, just imagine that you get out of your home, and you see multiple billboards per block. Competency is brutal, and people are also overwhelmed. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you have a bazillion subscribers and views if they cannot be monetized (aka, they are buying products) Then you have the point of pretending, which is another whole discussion.
