I am so happy to get my $100 every other month 😂 I only make content when I have time, but my real life job as a nurse practitioner will never be replaced by any social media. I don’t know how people were actually expecting to have social media as their savior or only income. It isn’t even realistic

Social media is just like another big brand chain like a McDonald’s or Walmart. It’s everywhere now and saturated, so the pay gets lowered to compensate for everyone’s piece of the pie. The same can be applied to the music industry today and recording artists and producers alike are getting Pennie’s while the major labels are raking in the big checks for the CEO’s and corporate office.

So…I’m well aware of when I’m being fleeced. Nothing against church…ijs see it as a community of like minded folk for support…I don’t see church as my line to god or salvation because the truth and the god is within ME…. and if you ain’t getting no support but prayers in your once of a lifetime of need…find a better church.

It all went downhill after SHORTS got introduced. You can get millions of views there and get paid 10 times less per view compared to long form videos and KZbin Knows this. Look at the time shorts were introduced and how much traffic videos get there vs regular videos.

I work in selling to chief marketing officers & marketing departments. The marketing budgets at major companies have been utterly slashed since the interest rates went up. No marketing budget means they aren't spending as much in ads and sponsorships. That is why infleuncers aren't getting paid as they do. If inflation is able to get back to control & interest rates get slashed, their marketing budgets will go back up and content creators will see that in their own revenue. 😊

You aren’t alone. I just have no words. You are spot on with everything . I’m an older creator my peak was 2017/2018 before the monetization changed because of Logan Paul. So so so much has changed . Personally ever since ugc came around the money has been drying up and that popped off in July of 2021. If we are all creators then there are no consumers. You just have to appreciate your journey if you’ve been doing this for awhile and if you are just starting, get ready for the emotional roller coaster because it’s not as easy as before. I mean down to the IG thing. You are spot on. I got $248 for 300k plays that was my highest month. All I did was post food 😂. This video was a breath of fresh air because once people know not to expect anything, things become easier. KZbin should function as a company not a platform. Even a low paying company will not hire u and have u put in thousands of hrs and pray u get paid. but youtube has fooled people to think being called content creator feels better than who we really r which is employees. So now many r working for free.hioing to get paid while many wmr getting paid who have rubbish content. Thanks to the algorithm which was written by man. Now everyone cannot get paid. So KZbin shouldn't let people on their platform just like that. One should create their content and when it's good enough then apply to youtube..

My costs to feature on that platform nor my commission costs have gone down, of course! And traffics is down by over /around up to 60%! I have never made so little money. It makes sense. It is causing me to make major moves- but not fast enough. It is also causing me to realign my value position, which I should have done a long time ago- bc I am not Walmart and trying to compete on price was never the way and only made me resentful at people and burned out.- Anyway- thanks for this info and here's hoping my approach will result in survivable income until I get back in the regular work world.

Orwell failed to predict just how compliant we would be…not just installing our own systems of surveillance, but welcoming them in and call them cute names like Alexa. To top it off, Orwell could’ve never foreseen that people would start voluntarily enrolling on Big Brother’s payroll and fight over attention, ad revenue and likes/views/clicks/subscribes. Ohhhh George Orwell knew mass surveillance was coming, he could’ve never, not even in his wildest dreams, predict what the masses would do with that 😂

The reality is that a lot of people's channels tanked when they tried to transition into becoming "lifestyle" influencers. People are starting to realize that they aren't nearly as important or interesting as they thought they were. Everyone is not a star nor does everyone posses a star quality. Adding actual value to your audiences by enriching them with the information/tools/skills they need to accomplish whatever it is you are an expert in will never go out of style. Everyone won't be Alliyiahs face and that Breanna girl. Is what it is. Also, too many people trying to exist in the lifestyle sphere. If everyone's an influencer then whose left to be influenced..?

yep...Once you've seen the lifestyle of one rich person, you've seen the lifestyle of them all. No one cares anymore. We all know what it looks like and its somewhat overrated. Even the attractive ones that are using looks are competing with other good looking people all over the world. Its about the information/entertainment/value you bring now. This is a good thing!

Dear heart, thank you! I've been seeing videos similar to this all over youtube, but without your candor and honesty. Thank you. I had been thinking of starting a channel for a few years now. Part of me was attracted to and repelled by the money angle. Part of me was truly nervous about putting myself out there for jackasses to harass. Part of me just wanted to have fun with it and screw the monetary stuff. It's funny, but now that the monetary pressure is pretty much off, I finally feel inspired to do my channel for ME. One thing any newbies need to keep in mind is that the gig economy (including youtube, uber eats, door dash, instagram, etc) was really only going to flourish during something like what happened with the pandemic. People were locked down, isolated, and in need of help and some sort of human-ish contact. Some of us made scads of money just delivering food! Others made videos that gave people a vicarious thrill (all the lifestyle/vanlife/etc stuff). Once people didn't need us anymore, the money stopped coming. My suggestion is similar to Nicole's, do it because you love it. There might be money in it, there might not. Maybe use it to promote your own creative business (that's what I'll be doing ... eventually ... if I ever get off my arse). I've seen several youtubers do this. Do not depend upon something as ephemeral as social media to support you. You'll be the flavour of the month, swimming in quick cash, only to have it all disappear when the public finds a new obsession.

Not necessarily. KZbin doesn’t use a pot system like TikTok. I won the KZbin black award in 2020 and got to speak directly with some KZbin employees. And they said revenue is all about the companies paying for ads. When social media in general is doing good, when people are actually buying from ads they see online, then you get paid more. Thats why December is always a profitable month for creators. But when there’s a recession, everyone’s broke/ trying to build savings, people are fed up with seeing ads online and quickly skip them, then the pay is less. It’s just about the time we’re in currently. It’s an ad hating period because everyone’s rightfully fed up of being pushed ads or ugc on EVERY single platform

I have lots of partnered channels. ad sense for me is amazing now when you mentioned finance that is true because the finance ad rates are way higher you get like $15 -$20 RPM for those videos. I have a gaming channel rates are $2-$3 RPM and my Tech channel is also $2-$3 RPM. the rates have actually stayed nearly the same over 4 years across the channels. I've had even increased on my education channel by $3 RPM. so I was at $7 now I get a avg of $10 RPM. So I think its just you arent getting the views you once was and your watchtime is low. That would be the only reason. However I feel like sponsorships have definitely slowed down and have went down in how much brands pay. that has taken a huge hit from when I started. So much more people are creating and why would a brand pay you $2,000 when they can pay this person over here whos just happy to be offered anything $150. Thats the only thing Ive noticed is the sponsorships are way more competitive and getting lower and lower in price. Ad sense though it has been extremely consistent for me yearly. the channel Im commenting with right now makes $100 every month and I haven't uploaded on it in 2 years. Its because views are consistent every month and the videos have 40-60% average view duration. I hope this helps anyone reading. you can do it! Just focus on watchtime and finding your audience!

It is simple economics. If the total pie is $1,000,000 and there is 1,000 comtent creators, KZbin can pay each content creator $1,000. If the pie remains at $1,000,000, but there is now 100,000 content creators, KZbin can only afford to pay each creator $10. Bottom line, the content creator market has become saturated.

This is why it's good to have multiple incomes multiple jobs. And I hope don't want to do 23 jobs. I get it, but that's the world we live in unless you're really successful. You definitely should have 2 screenings if 2 jobs or 2 something going on. I do cause if one falls slow. The other one will pick you up. I just end thing. I do when the washing and I work in a supermarket part-time. And I love both my jobs right now. It's wintertime, the winter cleaning is kind of slow and I'm fine with that but I aint trying to work in a freezing cold and that's a beautiful at living, a smaller, alternatively and small. I don't have to buy network in the freezing cold. So I don't glad I don't want to and that's where the supermarket job comes in and that's why I tell people have different streams of income. In fact, you got me an idea. I'm gonna make a video on that different streams. Of income and this will avoid you losing money. You will lose money and one job but you can make money somewhere else. It is one of this. The choice is yours, guys just don't depend don't put eggs in one basket. That's the thing don't bring. Don't put everyone basket, don't follow everybody else. Cause I don't go f*** about KZbin so I don't care. I've been to make money. I don't need you to, but that's the problem. When something's good, it gets saturated when it gets saturated. It's boils the value of it like my wife lived. No, alternatively to dude, only fans wants to get saturated. It begins to go downhill. And that is too crowded. The rooms too crowded. I think people are just having influencer fatigue. There for sponsors and adds are not paying as much and that trickles to you. I also believe this is the case for the sponsors and companies advertising. The more influencers get investigated the more purchased subscribers and views get exposed. Making them wonder if it is worth it since KZbin, twitter, and Instagram do absolutely nothing to police that.

I was hooked by the number of creators on KZbin parading their lucrative payouts. I actually thought there was a new Industrial Revolution where the jobs lost to digitization of Labour-based processes would be replaced by creator platforms, as traditional jobs began to wane. I even took a course on creating video content, but procrastinated as I realized I did not have content-meaning I am not a creator. But as I was procrastinating during 2023 the reports of collapsing payouts began to emerge. This video and several others on the platform identify the problem. Perhaps the issue now is that the over-hyping of lucrative payouts has led to the over-supply of creators and videos beyond the limit of existing corporate ad-budgets? Or are platform operators simply maximizing their profits?

The economy is down and KZbin is a company that has money but has been affected to a degree. I think KZbin will eventually change the qualifications to be monetized making it more difficult so that the creators that are partners can benefit from ad rev. One thing that would have improved this video is if you changed your location, a background change is always nice so from the couch to the kitchen as you're making something, to the balcony etc..

I feel you 100% , by the time they accepted my monetization all my steam went away and now videos I post on that channel can’t even break 200 views… something sinister is up

I started talking about money on my channel kind of organically, that’s when I realized the money related videos make the most

You are 100% right, the money is not it. I promote affiliate softwares and apps and they have cut the payout by 50% since when i started in 2018.

A bunch of "creators" really don't understand the social media game. You are basically paid as billboard, which means somebody put advertisements on you to sell something. Guess what? Companies have realized that influencing is not a cost-effective way to attract customers to their products and they are unwilling to put money towards that. On top of that, there is an economic "situation" going on, which means people have less disposable income to throw in products. To top it, there are now thousands of "billboards" around the corner, just imagine that you get out of your home, and you see multiple billboards per block. Competency is brutal, and people are also overwhelmed. Therefore, it doesn't matter if you have a bazillion subscribers and views if they cannot be monetized (aka, they are buying products) Then you have the point of pretending, which is another whole discussion.

Now I understand why so many have stopped posting for so long. They act like they just been busy. It's obviously because they're not making the money they used to , so they're looking for Other ways to make money I guess

Exactly. People go where the money is. There’s no money on KZbin unless you are selling something so that’s why many OG influencers have stopped posting on here. It’s too much work for little pay.

Honest and transparent, props to this lady! Yep, no one is immune to this souring economy. America has seen a huge economic decline over the past 2 years, and with that decline comes a steep drop in advertising spend from corporations and others. Advertising spend dropped by close to a hundred billion dollars by the first quarter of last year a lone, and its been falling off a cliff ever since.

I think the social media content creator boom was great. But as a person in their 60s, Ive seen trends come and go. I doubt it will 100% go away, but I think the ' big bag ,big bank ' as one reactor calls it is slowing significantly.

This was definitely an eye opener. I received 2 payments on youtube and it wasn't that much but I figured that much. To me like you I like making content and never thought of it as something to quit my job over. You are the first person to be honest and transparent and that to me speaks volumes. I hope your second channel is successful and I just subbed..

I starting watching YT during pandemic. Most of it has gotten boring and too many trash channels. I got pissed at the bombardment of ads so I just got a free trial for no ads which I will cancel before it expires. At that point my love affair with YT is over. It simply is a waste of my time.

You are correct and when i saw Joe Buddens on a podcast talking about this , he said its extremely hard to make money with podcasts and social media period. He said you see people switching things up and thats always good.Coming from a guy whose podcast has 11 million monthly listeners says alot.

I wouldn't suggest anyone to rely on social media has a primary source of the market. I mean there's so many unknown variables from business changing pay amounts, trends changing, growing competition, AI. I would treat it as a side hustle at best. I'm comfortable with my 9 to 5 career.
