I was med discharge after 26 yesterday in the army, applied for and received ssdi for 5 yrs. Then they reviewed my case and determined my injuries had improved enough that I could go back to work, they hadn't. AM now trying to get back on and it's taking forever. Had to sell my house in Florida, as without that income we couldn't afford to live there. Of all the people on ssdi , vets should be the one that get it automatically, not the morbidly obece who did it to themselves. If you get disability from the VA, it should Come from ss as well. Just my opinion.

I was in for 26 years, my VA rating is 100% due to unemployability. SSDI has a different rating system, they make it so you NEED a lawyer to get it, but it's worth it.

Getting VA Disability is a full time job. Going to all the appts the meds and maintaining the pace needed to get service connection requires commitment and dedication. If you’re going for SSDI I suggest keeping that same work ethic. That means making lots of drs appointments getting prescriptions and going to as many specialists as possible. Diagnosis and medical evidence are key to winning your claims so BE RELENTLESS! You have an obligation to NEVER QUIT. Poverty is the enemy and you can NEVER surrender!

Here’s what I did… Long before (about 5 years) I filed for SSDI, I had been seeing my VA doctor and my private practice doctor for my injuries. Whatever meds they gave me, I consistently took. Specialist and therapies, I never missed an appointment. I also had a SSDI lawyer file my SSDI and represent me. I was approved in about 5 months, solely because of my history with my doctors, and every document my lawyer asked for and said was needed, I was able to email within second since I have everything related to my injury in my phone and computer. Having the lawyer was very important.

I applied for disability 18 months and 6 days ago. I’m 100% rated through the VA, 100% disability rating from the Army, medically retired after 18 years due to my injuries sustained in combat. They definitely haven’t expedited my process. I had to complete multiple social security exams. I am praying that SS approves me. SS backdated my disabilities to December 2019 although I applied in August 2021.

When I got 100% from the VA social Security cut me off. I had been on SSI for years
@TheDisabilityDigestАй бұрын
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It's important to understand that the Social Security Administration (SSA) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) are separate entities and have different rules for disability benefits. If you're receiving VA disability benefits, it doesn't automatically disqualify you from receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) or Supplemental Security Income (SSI). However, the SSA does consider all income and resources when determining eligibility for SSI, which is a needs-based program. If your VA benefits increase your income above the SSI limits, it could affect your eligibility. If you believe there's been a mistake, you can appeal the SSA's decision. For appeals, I suggest that you take advantage of a free Disability Digest membership because it includes a step-by-step disability approval course and live support to help you get approved. The free course has saved many up to $7,200 in legal fees. If you would like to consider having a representative help you get approved, you can discuss this option with one of our Advocates. Got TDIU years ago. Never new about SSDI. Apparently it’s too late for me since I haven’t worked in more than 5 years…Zero advice on applying for SSDI when I got TDIU. Instead of guiding veterans towards these benefits it’s like they do their job to hide it from you. Even with VA benefits I didn’t apply until 10 years after I was discharged simply because I didn’t know either.

His statement doesn't hold true. If you're 100% on the VA side you must have the following: a) health records b)at least 40 quarters of work records c) In some cases be close to the age of 55. I was sent to three C&P exams and passed all with first time "go". The last doctor I saw said the only patients getting approved were people that had heart problems. I had no heart problems.

@DEFECTiVE well, let me give you my 2 cents.. I'm a DV.. I also bought my home 2 years ago. I'm 43, and had several surgeries from my service. Your comment that we don't pay taxes, as a reason is laughable. I'm disabled because of my service to the country. There's a reason why veterans get disability tax free. Same as most benefits from the federal government. You think being in the military that they make a lot of money? I still paid taxes while on active duty, and when i applied on my payment record. The government said they couldn't use that information.
@imDavina1331 Жыл бұрын
@@chriswilliamson806 do you think that because your disability, injury, or hurt came from your time serving the country that they owe you. i think that ssdi should not be taxed but va should. im a 100% disabled va medically retired veteran. i think it should be taxed.
@chriswilliamson806 Жыл бұрын
@DEFECTiVE I was medically retired. No one says you can't calculate what the tax rate is on your rating would be, and give that back or donate it. That's your choice. I had over 11 years when I got injured, and had 3 neck surgeries costing over $700k to fix what was done to me while serving my country. So, no I don't think VA disability should be taxed. When I retired, my retirement check at $880 was taxed. That was based upon my percentage of my base pay at 40%, plus I paid for Tricare as well out of that. How much tax would you like the government to take without curbing pork spending? Like for the museum of natural history, or the amount that was stolen during Covid? Since we're talking about money. Only 4% of Covid finds went to the American public.. The country has bigger issues than taxing veterans that were promises by their government to be taken care of if in the event they were injured while serving.
