Wonderful analysis always and very helpful information from you both. I am nearly 61 years of age and have a pending VA Claim of which some of the items are denied and 2 of the items are deferred pending decision. Upon receiving the final VA Decision I will use that information to file my Disability Social Security Claim. SGA is Substantially Gainful Activity.... not just working for wages.... so it's important to touch on the fact that other activities such as going to school or even volunteer work can come up as an issue when you claim you can't go to work.

What if I retired early from a government job due to health issues? I have a pension but have been unable to do functional work due to knee and back problems is Ssdi an option ?

Do you still have to use the prior ten year work period rule if your mental illness started before then? I am currently total and permanently disabled and receiving full VA compensation pay, but I want to get both.

I have skitsoeffective disorder. I cant work but 20 hours a week. I've tried working more but have phycosis episodes and its devastating to my life. I have had one every year since 2016 and it takes about 3 months to be functional agian. I want to go to school I want to get a better job I want to function but i cant .. I need help!!

Have you ever heard of an ALJ “judge” making a “recommendation” to the Appeals Council for a fully favorable decision instead of just making a final decision?

I understand about working while you’re applying but what about working AFTER you’ve been approved . Does that raise the SAME type of red flag?

Sounds like a red flag to me because if you win and get approved and then go to work after something doesn't sound right

@@rickoveryYes; this is tricky. Academic accommodations? What is you disability, specifically? Sitting for long periods? Concentrating? Completing assignments on time? Studying?
