REQUEST FOR ANDY: When Roger says he didn't give Novak the respect he deserved early on, he makes a comment about Novak's forehand grip. I think I know what he meant but I would love to have Andy give his perspective on it. Love the Served podcast. Loved the 12 days...cried multiple times. And what got me about it is the fact that Roger and Rafa somehow manage to be even greater humans than they are tennis pros -- which seems like an impossible ask. And they both do it so humbly. And I loved Andy's personal stories of Roger, too! Thanks so much!

I'm with Andy: As a longtime fan of the big 3 I maintain that if you love any one of these 3 players and know who they are, then you cannot disrespect any of the other 2. Otherwise you don't really respect your fave and you don't know tennis all that well.

Try being an Alcaraz fan. Sinner fans are cutthroat. They’re worse than the Big 3 fans imo.

@@andieolivia This is the type of stuff that makes the problem worse. There are toxic fans in any tennis fanbase, no reason to pretend like any group is particularly worse than the other. Real tennis fans appreciate anyone who plays good tennis, so try starting with that before being a fan of any player. No player is bigger than the game after all.

@@user-sw8yd5py2s I actually like Jannik Sinner. I am not a fan of his game style. But he seems like a really nice guy. It’s his fans who come for me cause I’m an Alcaraz fan. But that’s what happens when you’re a super fan and you cannot appreciate your favourite player’s main rival. That’s why I’m comparing Sinner fans to the Big 3 fan base. It reminds me of Rafa and Novak fans to be honest.

I can assume it. When Novak became a father for the first time, the first guy on tour he had a chat about fatherhood was Roger. And Novak at the Laver Cup 2022 said that he got the most emotional when his children came up. Now most likely the thing is that Roger would have said something about Novak's children that made him cry. Novak does get emotional when talking about his son. We saw that when he was doing his runner-up interview at Wimbledon 2023.

Only 3? But yeah, right there with ya. I teared up multiple times as well. For one, just for it being Federer saying goodbye as a player. But then seeing moments from his career that were key to me. Then finally, that Laver Cup tournament. After watching it, I watched him vs. Kyrgios in the 1st Laver Cup, in that insane match for all the marbles. Kyrgios never player better, but it was not enough against Federer's unbridled brilliance.

I have been a fan of Novak Djokovic since 2007. You might remember Andy, that was the year where Novak won his second 1000 tournament in his career where he beat you, when you were number three in the world. Then Rafael Nadal, who is number two in the world. And then beat roger, when he was number one in the world. And throughout the entire time, I have heard so many people fight. But I would like you to go back into the archives at the semifinal between Rafa and Nadal and Novak Djokovic the broadcast in Montreal. You will notice at the beginning of the broadcast they put the camera on an image of the Spanish and Serbian flags side-by-side on display. That was because of myself and some fans of Rafael Nadal that were watching that night. We made an agreement as fans, we would not share when their player made a mistake, but we would share when our player got a point. And the next day those RAFA fans showed up for the roger Federer match and became TEAM Novak. The respect that you’re speaking of was demonstrated in Canada in Montreal, 2007. Look it up.

I haven't seen it and I am not sure I really want. I cried when Federer retired, not because of respect, just my empathy with a crying man saying good bye to something he loved. Does the documentary show new facts or has it been made just to make people cry again? Any other purpose than to earn money? It would be great if Andy had Federer talking about how to change a cry-baby/ bad youngster court attitude to one of the most humble and elegant on tour. This would probably help the sport more than sharing private moments with families...

@hiwayman981
@hiwayman981 7 күн бұрын
Yeah, the Laver Cup footage has been available for nearly the past two years, so really nothing new there. What I did like was the in the beginning of the documentary, footage of Roger at his home, with his family and friends/representatives with him as he was going to make the announcement, and then the ride into Zurich as it was raining that day in Switzerland. For me, seeing tennis players' lives behind the scenes has always been the real treat; I was fortunate enough at a coach's conference some years ago to have been able to walk through the "tunnel" from inside Arthur Ashe Stadium onto the main show court (in November; no tournaments going on at the time). The quiet and stillness had an aura as the walkway literally exploded upward and outward toward the 23,000 fans' seats in the arena - it was memorable. I recall the cameras following Andy Murray through the hallways and passages that wind through Centre Court at Wimbledon in 2013 when he'd become the first British man to hoist the trophy in over seven decades at the time. And in what was probably Roger's greatest slam event win, in Melbourne in 2017 over his arch-rival, Rafa Nadal, how the TV crew was waiting for him just off the court at Rod Laver Arena as he was joined by Mirka, and they shared a very heartfelt embrace/kiss, celebrating in a way in which only family can understand, that was every bit as special as that match win was, at least for me.
