Hi I just graduated with my BSW degree in Baltimore. I’m preparing to sit for the LBSW exam. I’ve watched some of your video and I know you finished 2020 with your MSW at Morgan. I know you are studying for the LMSW exam but I wanted to know whether you took the LBSW exam and if you have any tips/ tricks/ advice?

BSW and MSW. I highly recommend to do your internship at a hospital! I interned at the same hospital last year before landing a permanent job as a social worker.

Love your content and so glad that I stumbled upon your channel. I’m starting classes for my bachelors in psychology/clinical psychology and plan to enter the MSW afterwards. I’ve been going back and forth between Nursing and Social Work and you helped me to confirm I made the right decision. Your comment about geriatric care is really appreciated. The social workers who helped my siblings to help my mom after a serious injury were a god send. They offered guidance, explained options clearly and did things I never would have had the ability or understanding to do to help locate, move and get regular care for my mom - down to coordinating the shuttle vans and confirming her mental and medical care.

Its been very hard out here for me as a lot of jobs in my area are looking for clinical social workers, LCSW-A/LCSW, which is not what I desire to do at the moment. I have graduated with my Master’s last May. I'm currently working towards getting my license but failed my first try in February. I'm working as CPS. I like it so far and it's good experience. But ultimately I want to do either the school, hopice or work in the hospital.

I have severe anxiety and I'm trying to figure out what to do for a living. I'm currently in college in my 2nd year completing a transfer curriculum. Major undecided. I am wondering if there is a social worker position where there won't be alot of pressure? I do not want to work with schools, children, foster care, or mental health. The elderly option doesn't seem too bad but would I have to be the one counciling the family? Or do I just do paper work and research resources for them and put them on a treatment plan document and send them that way? I'm really introverted and have poor social skills too. I get really sick when I'm overly anxious. I'm really stressing now because I don't know what to do for a living and I need to get out of poverty. My career decision and what I go to school for at this age is immensely important.

It sounds like micro social work may not be for you. I would suggest looking into macro social work, same concept but you would not be working with clients directly.

Have u thought about psychologist? I think they focus mostly on research and see clients very little for a very short time so not a lot of interaction with people.

Im currently in the process of getting my MSW and its so hard to find an evening shift social work job here in Maryland so I can do my internships during the day 😭 The only think I am seeing is elder care places but then they also want you to be registered nurses on top of having a degree.

I agree there aren't a lot of social work jobs that offer even shift other than the medical field. Just remember its a small time sacrifice for a long time reward!

Social work is such a vast field. You can work in Hospital's, Government (mental health, social services. Public Health, probation, etc). In LA the county pay is great and can be very rewarding. You can also work in higher education as a counselor or Advisor and you can also work in the Private Sector (H.R, CSR, & Public Relations), and Private Practice. So much you can do with it but it's up to you how you make it benefit you. Be encouraged

If y'all are looking for the money, don't pursue an msw, obtain your licensure...lcsw, lmsw, lpc. That's where you'll Get the most bang for your buck. Master's degrees will put you in the game, but you ain't winning the big prize, mainly, because a lot of the grad programs are easy, online, no GRE or other tests to determine your knowledge level. But licensures??? You've gotta log hundreds of hours under a licensed professional anddddddd test, successfully, to become credentialed. Yes, I am a social worker, degreed and experienced😁

In 2020, Texas Social Work tried making it ethical to discriminate against the LGBT community. Oklahoma Social Work board follows legality on discriminatory practices against people living with HIV. Social workers put the profession over the marginalized populations.

I didn’t get my BSW, however I assume it is pretty similar to getting and MSW. There will be a essay of course you’ll been transcripts everything. I recommend being open to all the career possibilities once you actually start the program
