We plan to have our own dachshund sometime within the next year... once we have money saved (we just made a huge expense and need to save again). I am just so excited, I have started watching every KZbin video I can so I'm ready. Plus it helps pass the time while we wait!! Your channel is really great. Thank you!!

You are a very brave woman, having 6 dachshund you definitely know what you're talking about. I wish I had seen this video before I got mine. I took him to a busy park right after he completed his vaccines and now he's afraid of strangers. We are working hard to overcome the situation and your videos are really great. Thank you for sharing!

This is great 🤗 I feel like I keep having to defend myself for the way I am slowly integrating my puppy into daily life. I keep foolishly saying “he’s a dachshund” or “he’s still a puppy” to people with expectations beyond his natural progression. I feel like I’m doing ok, and if he is overwhelmed and wants picked up I will damn well pick up my sausage 🥰🐶

I took my mini to the vets yesterday for his 2nd vaccination and before this he's met people and been on walks (in a bag) and had absolutely no problems at all. however because of the pandemic the vets aren't allowing people into the practise now so yesterday he was literally handed over... the vet then came out and acted as if I had handed him a pitbull, apparently he urinated, growled and had to wear a muzzle. I was in absolute shock with what he was telling me and then he acted so concerned and recommended training and questioned me why he acted this way. I tried to explain in an emotional way that maybe its because I wasn't with him and he was scared being handed over to a complete stranger to then be poked and prodded. he made me feel like I had done something wrong with training him but I am so limited when it comes to the pandemic. I would have thought that the way my mini reacted would have been seen as normal considering the circumstances. should I be worried? on Saturday he is officially allowed to go for walks so ive decided once a week to take him to the vets for a treat and cuddle with the staff. but quite frankly I am still in shock at how he was describing my gorgeous Gary who hasn't once shown any signs of aggressive behaviour until yesterday! :(

Firstly change vets, your vet sounds like a idiot. Of course a puppy being handed over for the first time would be panicked! They’re literally idiots. I’d want another vet!!!!!

Love your videos‼👍Thank You We had 5 now 3 have gone over the rainbow bridge. So very sad they are and were some of the best babies we have ever had. We have had Cocker Spaniels and the Golden Retrievers over 4 decades. Would do it all over again. We will. They are our kids and family. Unconditional love and trust.😭😭 Can't wait to see everyone again.

So wise. Every Dachshund is different. My pup Frankie girl is much more timid than my previous dogs. She is fine with other dogs. People are more difficult, although she is crazy about my friend Dyan and her human Grandpa.

Awww how sweet! 100% all my dogs were so different as pups. Eva and Fenton are siblings. Eva took everything on amazingly and Fenton turned really uncomfortable hackles up at about 6 months so we had to take everything so much slower :) x

How do you train on the lead?
@lennysixdachshunds10693 жыл бұрын
In the garden :) pop them on a lead and drop it down on the ground first and let them just get used to it being on them pick it up and reward them for walking to you on it. Then start to walk around rewarding them as they walk. X

Hello! I love your channel and I love dachshunds! I have a three month old mini male Louie .. he is constantly scratching and I’m concerned... I took him to the vet to get checked out and the vet said he is totally fine ... any advice ? Do you have any videos on this or could you possibly make one.? Thank you SO much ... love from America ❤️❤️
@lennysixdachshunds10694 жыл бұрын
Hey! Scratching a lot is definitely not normal. A couple of things it could be.. 1. Something in your house such as clothing fabric softener, carpet cleaner etc 2. What food is he on? 3. Fleas? 4. Mange? Does he have any dry skin areas or anything? But scratching definitely should be investigated especially so young xxx

At how many weeks/months old would you take a puppy to a cafe or friend's house?
@lennysixdachshunds10694 жыл бұрын
Hi William! I do everything as my puppies pace. I’ve had puppies that thrive meeting new people and getting out into the world and others that go quiet and are clearly uncomfortable who have needed me to go much slower. So it’s really about keeping an eye on the puppy recognising what is a big leap / change and maybe going home if you realising the pup is very overwhelmed and then taking that step a bit more slowly x

I really wish I saw this video before I picked my puppy up last July. I am a new dog owner and I had done everything you suggested not to do and now she is reactive, how can I help her reverse this please 😞

Great information thanks. We pick up our puppy next week. We have been advised to get our own VET puppy check to verify all is well with our new family member. Our plan was to do this within the first 48hrs. After seeing your video I’m now concerned this might not be a good thing, it may stress the puppy out. How long would you advise we wait before making this appointment with the VET? Thanks.
@lennysixdachshunds10693 жыл бұрын
Hey Darren! The puppy should come with microchip and first vaccination which should mean they have already seen a vet recently! However popping to the vet after a couple days just for a check up end some treats won’t be bad at all :)
@dazman19733 жыл бұрын
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 Hi Lenny! Yep puppy comes with all that good stuff when we pick her up. The service we used to find the breeder advised also getting our own VET check to ensure it agrees with the one we are given. I guess it’s just belt and braces really. Thanks for your reply it’s much appreciated and thank you for the videos they have been very helpful.

Great video. I am hoping to get a dachshund puppy next year (first dachshund, but have had other bigger breeds for last 30 years). I already have a beagle, who is very chilled out & non reactive. Could you tell me if your advise about socialising a dachshund puppy would be any different if there’s already an adult dog in the house? Thank you x
@lennysixdachshunds10694 жыл бұрын
Another misconception is that dogs that live with other dogs will be naturally more socialised but unfortunately this isn’t the case. I have 8 dogs and have fostered all sizes of dogs, yet if some of mine see a big dog they still react 🙈🙈 it’s mostly genetic that dachshunds in particular are vocal and reactive 💜💜
@andreasanders81374 жыл бұрын
LENNY & SIX DACHSHUNDS Ok, thank you for your help! We lost our shetland sheepdog a few months ago and he was very reactive and barked at everything and everyone! So I am used to a vocal dog! 😁Just interested to know how adult dog fits in with puppy socialising? Eg. When do you recommend they can leave the house together for a walk?
@lennysixdachshunds10694 жыл бұрын
I walk mine around the garden from day 1 but only outside once they’re vaccinated. I try to do one to one walks and walks with my other dogs so they’re learning alone and with a confident back up :) when they aren’t vaccinated I take them out in a carry bag to learn roads etc 💜

I couldn’t find Nemo on ig. My dachshund boys are Oscar.318 hope to see you there. My standard is overweight 😳 going to search your videos see if you posted tips. I feed 1/4th cup boiled chicken breast 1/4th cup of blue buffalo diet dog food each dog get that and 2 blue buffalo dog biscuits
@lennysixdachshunds10694 жыл бұрын
Hey Christina! For overweight dogs it’s best to decrease their portion by 50% adding cucumber so they aren’t hungry. Get their weight to what you would like and then slowly increase the food to around 70% and that should then keep them that weight :)

For me is annoy that people feel the right to pet my puppy without asking, obviously my dog loves to be receiving attention, but for me is annoy, the other day a lady was even kissing him T_T I just don't want to be rude to others, any advice of how to let others know that is not ok to just touch a dog without asking the owner first?
@lennysixdachshunds10693 жыл бұрын
I would get a lead that says ‘give me space’ that way people will be more apprehensive and you can invite those you feel comfortable with :)
