Random: my first job in life was spicy kitten tamer. Back in the 50s when dinosaurs roamed the earth, people had wild barn cats with kittens every summer. They couldn't find homes for wild kittens, so they called me. I sat in their yard and talked and sang until the babes started to trust me. I loved them so much and had to say so many goodbyes. But it was good.

You literally are the one that inspired me to foster. I started a bit more than a year ago. There were tears when they're adopted but also very fulfilling to befriend all these beautiful little ones and get to know their personalities so I could find a home for each of them that is a perfect fit.

​@@jcepri time heals, grieving is a natural process, there's nothing wrong with it. But if you ever feel ready, I suggest opening your heart and maybe your home to kittens. Parting when they get adopted is not as difficult as losing your dear fluffball - you'll know that they will be alive, well fed and in a warm house. Besides, it's really fun when they're young and only start discovering everything

My cat, Shadow, was once a kitten outside and after I brought her inside, she is living the luxury life while also changing my life for the better. I wish I could bring more of the stray cats inside. All I can do is give them a warm house outside, 2 meals a day with occasional treats and to watch them to make sure they are safe.

@@cassandralambros Very true! Organizations in her area probably offer free Trap, Neuter, Release (TNR) programs. You trap or take them in carriers or cages, they neuter them,then they get released rigbt back to their same territory. Their lives are so much easier without constantly reproducing and it helps the environment/wildlife and neighborhood.

I love the hoodie cocoon for them. Helping them feel more secure by keeping them closer to the warmth of your body heat. Also having them laying on your chest as a little tiny kitten also helps get them to a calmness from your heartbeat. In the beginning of the spring I was able to catch a lil singleton that got separated from it's mama and litter mates. She was too scared to figure out the way back. She was hiding underneath my neighbor's porch. For 2 nights straight my heart was breaking hearing her crying for help. So I set up a crate(before I was able to get a trap, although she was probably too tiny to set off the trip plate) and food hoping to lure it out that way. One night I was so determined to catch her and lucky I did because she wasn't well. The rescue organization I brought her to said she had phenomena and was very very under weight and dehydrated. Anyway long story short I saw her venture out into the front yard of my neighbor's house so I spotted her under the front stoop porch so she was cornered. I wasn't able to reach her but just sat and was still and patient. She was crying and shaking so I thought to try meowing back at her and SHE CAME RIGHT TO ME!! I scooped her right up no problem and wrapped her in a little hand towel and held her right to my chest and she started purring right away. I was so proud of being able to catch her that night. She might not have made it much more without intervention. I set her up in a warm crate for the night and brought her in the morning to a rescue organization to take her in from there. I help with TNR around my area when I can. Knowing I'm able to help another lil baby kitty makes my soul happy. I hate seeing cats outside in the cold and the heat. I have shelters set up in my backyard and keep food and water fresh for those that I can help. I WISH MORE PEOPLE CARED ENOUGH TO HELP. Even helping fostering when they have the time and space makes a difference. I've talked to people that have said I wish I could but have the mindset that they have to do it full time. Even if it's just housing some till they can go to a more stable location helps. Small acts make a big impact as well.

Thank you for your videos! I rescued a kitten thissummer. I saw her run across a grocery store parking lot and caught her, geting road grime all over my dress, lol. I looked for any siblings, but didn't find any. She actually wasn't very spicy, but SUPER terrified. I had the benefit of your videos, giving her a bath, setting her up a safe place, making sure she eats from my hands, reinforcing that hands are good (i didn't have a trap, only my hands, so I knew I'd need extra work), but thankfully I had the time, and after three weeks, I was able to deliver her to her forever home with a young couple I knew will love her 💙

I am one+ my max. I have three 10 year old black and white shorthairs-- a bonded pair I got in a rehoming situation when they were 4, and a former street kitty who 2 vets places at about the same age. As an expat, I am lucky that I found d a place where my landlords allow my 3! I will have to retire in 10 years, so no more cats for me, but I do TNR. Currently, I'm working on the campus cats at my university (Hongik U). This summer I spayed the 7? month old daughter of our campus cat family. One cat at a time. . . TNR is the best we can do.

My favorite chin scritch epiphany was a spicy void kitten who lived outside my apartment. He let me hang out and occasionally pet him while he ate. One day I went in for the chin scritches and he just *froze,* I swear you could see gears turning in his head. Then the purring started. It was like all the effort I'd put in for months suddenly clicked with him. Absolute cuddlebug from that moment on and one of my friends adopted him. He is now a very spoiled house panther. 😁

This reminds me so much of my (formerly) spicy boy whom I had to put down in July. When he was a kitten, back during the halcyon, hope-filled days of the Obama presidency, I had to pick him up with an oven mitt for the better part of 3 months because he just wouldn't socialize. But belly rubs eventually thawed his demeanor. I had 11 great years with Mister Jerkface (a sobriquet he earned in those initial months). I hope Lewis (clearly a fan of Lewis Black, it seems) gives someone just as much great time. And you can just send me Huey, thanks, he's a doll.

They are now 2 years of age and are just the best, completely part of our lives. At least the folks @ Flatbush cats rescues and takes very good care of them. Otherwise they would end-up at your local cat meat shop which would do all kinds of horrific things to them all for $$$'s. Feral and stray cats are now the latest victims of this evil cat meat trade.

I managed to socialize a spicy cat - 2 years old. Hiss, hide, bite, scratch, draw blood, everything. It took a year. I'd tell you how I did it, but most people wouldn't like it. In the end, she lived a long, happy life and would visit the children at the school during their recess and play with them. She slept on my head, groomed me even - growling if I tried to pull my head away from her tongue. Tough love works but you really, REALLY need to understand cats for it to be effective. Maybe Flatbrush will do a video about how it works?

Think of everything you'd have to do to break her will and yeah, that's what you do. You have to be everything good and everything bad in her life. Again, it's not for the faint of heart. I imagine there are essays by wild animal trainers who can explain it in better detail than I. That's all I'll say.

This is a great source of information, as I adopted a kitten some months ago, and now I"m in the process of making a stray kitten, who has actually adopted me, as his mommy my own. Love the names of these two! Also love that they get a home together. I've been focused on taking in older kitties - not seniors, since I already have some, but not kittens, since kittens are easy to find homes for. As my gang ages out, I do hope to foster, even take in a mommy with babies to foster, but that will be a while. We have some purrsonality issues here, so not a good time to take in anyone else. If/when there is a little left over, I donate to you and a local shelter, usually at year end. One can only hope that your plan for affordable care can spread. We aren't local to your place, so can't use the new facility. It certainly isn't cheap caring for so many!!! Just this year, one treated for thyroid (1600$$, not including all the tests before and after), one dental (~900) and another dental next week. Yearly exams, FOOD and litter really adds up, especially since we don't use dry food and are very picky about the foods served!! Best of luck to Huey, Lewis and all the others you've helped and will help.

My first 2 cats as an adult were brothers. One ran up to the bars of the cage they were in and purred so loud I could feel it from a couple feet away. Went over to visit him, and while he was doing Pick Me, Pick Me, I noticed another kitten at the back of the cage in the litter box - a sign of a terrified cat. Took them both home and cuddlebug wanted to be near me and sleep with me, and little bro wanted to be near him, but he didn’t want to be touched by humans. I was just patient and calm, letting him know he wasn’t going to be hungry or cold ever again, and waited. The day I came home and they were both there to greet me, and my little boy stood up and lifted his front legs, squeaking to be picked up, is maybe the greatest honour of my life. What a purr monster he turned into ❤

The whole album has a clear, crisp sound, and a new sheen of consummate professionalism that really gives the songs a big boost. I am not sure yet if I can foster as I do get too attached, but I am adopting a kitty from Azerbaijan, she was brutally beaten and her ears hacked off. I get her end of October, she flys to the US then and she looks like the kitty I just lost in Dec, so my heart is already on my sleeve. I have one that has been in the house with me for 7.5 of her 8 years when i trapped her. She's still easy to spook. Thank God she is super food motivated & loves her chin scratches.
