I am lakota. I live on the reservation and I grew up with the traditions of my culture. This is fucked up and disappointing. I've only seen very few of my elders wear a headdress because it's such an honor. Like you get a single eagle feather for your achievements, which is very difficult to obtain. A headdress is something you get over the course of your life. Which is why typically only traditional elders wear them in my culture. They've earned the sacred feathers that make up their headdress. When i see a white man, who has no respect and consideration to other people wear one. I am truly disgusted. You should be too. If you claim you're okay with this and indigenous. I think you're just colonized and I know your ancestors look at you with shame. You may be of indigenous descent but in order to be indigenous is to know your culture and history. At this point? Absoltely nothing. It USED to have a base that was very clearly inspired by indian headdresses. Far as I understand, those are sacred in their culture and not to be worn by anyone who hasn't earned it. It's kinda like slapping on a priests robe and declaring you are the pope even if you are not. just to use an extreme example. Even back then though if I remember correctly, he had it in different colors, so purple and black and all that. In real Headdresses i believe color and pattern are very important though and have specific meaning. The current one doesn't have that base anymore. It's just something to wear on your head with feathers. But people automatically assume it must be cultural appropriation when in reality there are multitudes of cultures that traditionally used feathers as accessories. Brazilian carnival headdresses come to mind for example. So long story short absolutely nothing is wrong with the headdress he wears now.

Exactly babe, its a caricature. That's kinda the problem. Things like black face or calling sports teams 'the Indians' and having mascots were never really meant to be accurate portrayals of those cultures or races - they're caricatures. And doing that leads to this - people being okay with using someone's culture (a culture that's been persecuted and marginalized for decades and still is today) as fashion. Unfortunately people aren't monolith, no matter how much some activists want to impose same opinion to every person from a certain minority group. You completely misunderstood my point. And this is exactly why people won't bother to try to understand your point, when if weren't treating them like this I bet many would try. But... You just said that after speaking to ”many” indigenous people you came to the conclusion that you don’t give a shit about the headdress controversy and that you’re going to do what you want. So how is it then relevant to bring up that Lance appears to be speaking for all native Americans (which I don’t believe he was at all)? It seems really hypocritical to me. That cultural appropriation hurts is not something to have an opinion over, it is just facts. There are always going to be people belonging to a certain culture that don’t care about these things, but the fact that some do and are hurt by your actions should elicit some form of empathic response. Even if you were modelling your gear from WoW, you can’t deny that it still looks like a modified version of a native headdress. It seems pretty obvious that if it didn’t, people wouldn’t be commenting about it. You are really nit-picking the stuff you want to respond to and giving childish arguments, which makes it difficult for me to take you seriously. At this point I am inclined to believe that you are contiuing with this for clout.

I once admitted, at a methadone clinic, AA style tyle of group therapy. at I'm a serial cheater, and I just wanted insight on the victims of what cheating does to people. in the moment, in the future, I just wanted some context and in this room full of people who have gone to prison, stole from their kids, lost their kids, looked at me like I had a red A on my chest. &no one said anything. (I talked to a guy after who is my friend, I just automatically liked him the first time we talked and he looks like stereotypical dorky skinny white guy with glasses and I had to pullll it out of him "when you said... that made me think 'oh she's one of those people" I'm like, "this is what I wanted to hear...in the rooooom." but its like I'm asking them to talk me through how their first abortion was, I'm like "fuckdamn who hurt you" (just so everyone knows, this was NOT Alcoholics Anonymous those are usually unjudgemebtal spaces, or at least try to be) most people who cheat don't get caught, but I think in a lot of cases people admitting to their partner that they cheated, is so inherently selfish; depending on what kind of partner you have. you are taking the burden off yourself and putting the weight in someone else to bear bc shit your conscious is clear now! you're remorseful, everything everyone tells you to be and now your solid relationship, like ROCK SOLID has trust issues for the next 30 years up into yalls's marriage cause you wanna just "get it off YOUR chest" "wow your a saint Jerome" now your perfect future marriage is fucked up, good job idiot.

I can't say I agree with everything you've said/done, and neither am I an indigenous person, but what I do like is the fact that you have altered your 'headdress' to make it your own, as well as to be less appropriating. In cases like this I don't think there is a right or wrong, I just think there is huge gray area. The problem is indigenous people are often treated like 2nd class citizens while elements of their cultures (as varied as they may be) are often used for entertainment and mockery... while the people themselves are forgotten about and ignored. If this were another world where indigenous people were regarded with more respect and reverence, you wouldn't be so heavily targeted for doing what you're doing. But that isn't the reality of it. I feel bad that this has happened to you, but to a degree, you make the choice to wear it... so you'll just have to continue dealing with the many opinions that go along with it.
@LadyBlueAzure3 жыл бұрын
Also I think that a lot of people that get offended for indigenous are couch activists... and I’m saying this as a POC. Instead of sitting comfy in Tiktok comments, why not go help a business started by Indigenous people? There are plenty of them. Support your local tribes or something. Spread awareness about missing Indigenous people and demand answers? *edit: I realize this might contradict some things I’ve written… what I mean to say is I think all most people do when they see bad things happen to indigenous people is say ‘awww that sucks’, write a comment, and move on with their day. I think that truly caring and being ‘offended’ means actually doing something for indigenous people.

Tbh the reason it’s highly offensive is because a headdress was something you earned within a tribe. It wasn’t freely given. It wouldn’t matter what happened to the tribes in the past, as it’d still have the same meaning behind it. He should throw away the headdress as it still is a headdress no matter how it’s colored or how it looks.
@LadyBlueAzure3 жыл бұрын
@@ClaymoreVision Yeah, I agree with you on that point… I suppose it wouldn’t matter what happened within the time frame because the headdress is still sacred. Elaborate headdresses (many feathered in some way) have been worn by so many different cultures worldwide. Very commonly associated with feathered headdress are indigenous people. I do not mean native Americans specifically, I mean indigenous people as a broad grouping. Almost every single group of indigenous people in the world wore some type of headdress in ceremonial traditions and many of them had feather, plant and bone adornments. Yes, even in Europe. You know… The indigenous white people that existed no matter how much people want to pretend they didn’t. In fact, a meaningful and ceremonial type of headdress is still used today in the Caribbean for Carnival. The festival originated with Italian Catholics and then spread to the French and Spanish. Carnival traditions were restricted to European settlers at first so Caribbean people took the European carnival traditions (which were religious mind you) and started their own carnival. The Caribbean Carnival traditions exist because they appropriated European religious culture, but it’s okay because of the slavery and colonizing. (I genuinely believe it to be fine regardless of those things. People saw things they then wanted to incorporate into their own celebrations and it turned into culture and tradition for them.) I’m going to get so much hate for this. But I really don’t put much weight behind the cultural appropriation for offense arguments. Everyone has ancestry, history and culture and many of them cross and bleed. As long as you are not directly mocking or deliberately and solely profiting off someone else’s culture that is not your own, I just don’t see how it is offensive to wear things like a black, gothic, feathered head piece that has no direct relation to a specific ceremonial item of another culture.
