i jammed with Johnny a few times in 1980/81 in Ann Arbor when I was at UofM. I was starstruck as I had seen the Dolls and then the Heartbreakers a number of times here in NYC. Here I was in my college house basement playing with a legend. He asked me to join Gang War with Wayne Kramer and go on tour in Europe. He was really strung out then so I turned him down. I was graduating and getting married. I always wonder what wouldve happened had i joined them. RIP JT

Cool I'm a guitarist myself....Sadly neither of the two boys did well , both ended up heavy users and in and out of Prison...Vito was arrested again shortly befoe he died and the mugshot was online , he looked awful ....not sure about Julie , his Daughter Jamie seems to be doing ok in Sweden . after he died his sister invested the little he left wisely into various funds wich then grew to quite a large amount , it lead to a family feud after her death and last I read the estate was tied up in litigation ....it's been in the media a few times

They were a little older than me. I still followed them around when they played here and there..I always wanted to meet him and tell him how the NY Music scene formed my teen and early years..I admired their girlfriends. They were so stunning. It seemed like they had it all. I was in awe of the whole scene. I was very very young..did not know what was in store for me if I kept associating with that crowd. There's a certain contempt these up and coming rock stars had for the girlfriends and groupies that hung around. The girls got used and talked about later on..but when the girls spent ALL their money on alot of these guys you see here, the girls were then thrown away. No body's talking about that here!!

You say it as if he's trademarked the catchphrase. Of course drugs suck, but in some cases it's always too late. As a fan who thinks smack sucks, i just try to see his example as useful, as fair warning to all talented, highly intelligent and ultra-sensitive folks out there. Thunders could have lived more and better, that's the sad truth.

@@petercrowley41 And before that he was playing drums for Suzi Quatro's band before she made it in the UK. He was on smack then. The reason he got the sack was he turned up one night too out of it and played a lousy gig. He was a fantastic drummerr tho. And he's right about smack. smack as John Lydon said destroys creativity. As much as I love Johnny Thunders. He virtually played the same set for 15 years. He should have made an album a year after LAMF and So Alone. The only studio albums after that was Qué Sera Sera and Copy Cats. Too few and far between. Shame.
