I only just finished watching Ergo Proxy at the age of 28, and I'm glad I didn't watch the series when it came out. I probably would have never grasped the full psychological depth of the show, and also because many clues and aspects of the show only come to light when you rewatch the episodes a second or sometimes even a 3rd time. What I realized at the end of it is that the number of similarities this anime shares with our world is astonishing. The confusing, totalitarian regulated city of Romdeau really resembles a lot of things with how our everyday life is set up to be. Life is hard for many, while some have it easier yet rarely feel satisfied. For many, life feels mundane, and isolating. Lots of people stuck up in small offices working mundane jobs, leading them to seek comfort and distraction during the weekends to avoid confronting difficult existential questions. I liked the ending of your summary. It's very true that watching this anime can evoke a sense of nihilism about humanity's future. However, I believe that anime's like this are created to highlight humanity’s problems and to illustrate the despair that can arise when we, as a society, choose to neglect our moral values. Whatever life throws at us, it's up to us to move forward, to break the mold and to create and build a future worth fighting for.

Ergo Proxy is like listening to classical music. I dont understand it in comparison to contemporary music but its so rich and deep you almost feel obligated to figure it out. But you dont have to understand things to enjoy them. Eventually you start to pick up things that did not occur to you prior. Thats a very basic analog but I think it fits. Like learning to love cigars or scotch...somethings which at first seem trivial or derivative are in fact the backbone of many many little worlds.

I believe reading that Proxys are forced to kill each other because only one can exist for one dome or even that one Proxy is assigned to one specific dome. When Ergo as Vincent entered Charos, it triggered Senex to kill Ergo. Its another reason why Mosk fell, being that Monad died before the events of the Series. I really thought i figured this series out after a few rewatches but now you are making me doubt myself lol. Also Monad is the Proxy of Asura, not Romdo, meaning that his death would not have effected Romdo's Electricity.

After just rewatching this series and taking in others observations I've come to a conclusion that's been the heart of almost every episode. In every lie there is a shadow of the truth. And if the text on the pendant was readable I feel like we might have some understanding of that. So people think it's Latin written on it but it might actually be French. I think this from the first two words on the pendant "mi amor" my love. This was a gift from ergo to monad. What he might have said on that might bring to light something we've missed all these years. But on the lies having shadows of Truth. I've seen it in lots of episodes like the one where monad makes ergo think he's inside of re-l mind. Or the fact proxy 1 is not the true ergo proxy or is the creature made by splitting ergos Malice from him self. I've found I've been able to make sense of many episodes by understanding that principle of story telling. In a sense it was a lie to hide the truth. Kinda like the game show episode, it was a lie but in that lie it told us many truths about the world of ergo proxy. Idk I'm writing this before watching your video all the way through maybe you mentioned this later. But it's something I just came to a realization too.

I loved it because of beautiful aesthetics, the ontological mystery and existential themes. Ten years later I played Nier Automata and loved it because of beautiful aesthetics, the ontological mystery and existential themes (and terrific gameplay). Some characters having names of philosophers that I knew from my university degree was a cherry on top. Clearly, I loved both works for similar reasons, but, somehow, I didn't really think about or realized before watching this video that the main message of both works is similar as well!
