Once rebuilt the old CB550 forks are a great upgrade for CB350's and CB360's .

Couldn't you just not install the bearing spacers which would allow the axle nut and axle shoulder to go further into the hub? Great video! Thanks for the information.

ok I've made some progress. slow and steady wins the race. so what did you do for the rear wheel. just leave it. the harley front rim is wider than the rear. Is that ok with appropriate tire sizes to accommodate. were there any adverse handling issues? Did you finish your bike. you never posted up anything else about it?
@steverice75466 жыл бұрын
Very informative video, so thanks. Did you need to put shims or spacers between the rim/hub and the rotors to gain space for the calipers to clear the spokes?

Nice video. I have '76 750 and will be using an '08 gsx r600 fork. My question, why not machine down the bearing spacers to match the axle?
@SocoMoto7078 жыл бұрын
the axle sits on the bearing and not the bearing spacers. the bearing spacers will just space the bearings out to the edge of the wheel hub
@travisbailey447010 жыл бұрын
Hey, nice work. Do you know what front axle that is? I have a 09 gsxr front end that has a different front axle. It looks like a 600 axle appears similar to what you are using. Any thoughts? Thanks
@SocoMoto70710 жыл бұрын
the front axle is from a 2004. you have a different axle in the sense that you have a spacer, a lock nut and an axle. mine is just the axle and lock nut. In the 2004 versions, the lock nut and the spacer are the same. basically, you are going to need to add another spacer to it. see this thread for how to do it: forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=63784.0 do everything that i did in my video and add in the axle portion of the tread above.

got the wheel, got the forks. can't find those caliper spacers anywhere... where do I get them?
@SocoMoto7079 жыл бұрын
you can get them on ebay or amazon
@maxkremer97749 жыл бұрын
+SocoMoto707 Hey thanks man. I tried. Can you suggest what to look for? I tried "caliper spacers" - nothing on Amazon. On ebay I found Brembo specific ones only :(
@SocoMoto7078 жыл бұрын
if you have a drill press and bandsaw, then you can make you own. spacers are nothing more than a piece of steel rod with a hole in it. you can just buy a steel or aluminum rod, cut it to 10mm and drill a hole that matches your bolt diameter. im sure if you went to a metal fab shop, then can make you some spacers for less than $20
@maxkremer97748 жыл бұрын
SocoMoto707 Thanks. For those reading this and trying to do the same conversion the right spacers should ideally have collar that fits the caliper. I found mine on ebay from Taiwan for $20

Hey man great information and something a lot of people are doing but for a lot more money. I love the idea! Did you find that just simply switching out the neck bearings allowed you to swap that set of forks onto the cb550? If you did can you please share what you've learned or how you found was the easiest way to do that. Thanks again for all your help. Pretty creative!

look up cognitomoto, they're using a lot of these gsxr front ends on old bikes like these. The CB500 and 550 have a perfect length STEM, so you can just put in new neck bearings and its done. Although I think you don't want those ugly gsxr wheels on your cb550.. That's why I'm watching this video..

Great job, SocoMoto707 Two questions: 1. I couldn't see a seal out there, did you install it after? Cuz it seems like so little room left.. 2. 1 inch is 25.4 mm. And you replace it with 25 mm bearings. Do these .4 mm matter that much here? Thanks!
@SocoMoto70710 жыл бұрын
1) i didnt show the seals in the video because i felt like they would block the installations of the bearing. the seals fit in fine because they dont need much room inside the hub to protect the bearing. 2) The .4mm does not matter much in there. the bearing fit pretty snug inside the hub and take some pounding with a "dead blow" hammer to get them in. make sure you dont use a regular hammer.. .use a plastic hammer(with the sand inside) or a wooden hammer to install the bearings.

Hey pal. See you didn't install the rubber seals? Also is that bearing sleeve the stick Harley one from that wheel? I'm doing this conversion now
@SocoMoto7079 жыл бұрын
yeah, i didnt put in the seals because i didnt want to block anything in the video. the bearing sleeve is a stock harley sleeve, but you might have to cut it depending on the harley part number you get

hey,my question is..I have a 1976 cb750f super sport,and I have a 2000 yamaha r1 with dual disc brake.so can I just put the yamaha fork on my cb760f?
@SocoMoto7078 жыл бұрын
not sure.. but you need to check the stem length. if its too long, then you need to cut it and re-thread it. also check out all balls racing to see if they have a bearing kit that will fit.

i went to a local harley shop and asked about the street bob wheels and no one could find a 07 street bob wheel with dual front brakes. Did you drill and tap holes for the other side or was the wheel setup for a disc on both sides. I have a 74 550 and 01-02 gsxr 1000 front end im piecing together and im down to the wheel. any help would be greatly appreciated.
@SocoMoto7078 жыл бұрын
ok, the problems is that you are looking for a bike with dual disc brakes. most harleys dont have dual, just single disc brakes. If you look at a harley hub, it will have a single disc on one side and on the other side it will have a cover on it. remove the cover and you can mount a second disc.

SocoMoto...I guess I don't understand why you changed to a smaller wheel bearing and used a spacer to take up the same amount of space as the one inch bearing. Great Video!!
@SocoMoto7079 жыл бұрын
lltew1 i think the harley hub comes with a 1in wheel bearing which is pretty much equal to 25mm... But i just wanted to keep things exact so i removed the 1'' and replaced it with a 25mm bearing. all 25mm bearings come standard with that width so i had to use a spacer.
@SocoMoto7079 жыл бұрын
i could have used the 1'' bearing(25mm=1''), but i wanted to show how to use 25mm bearings

nice video but not to sound like a troll why go to all the trouble and use a Harley wheel and mickey mouse making it work? why not use the GSXT wheel and brakes? Well not a clue why you went to such lengths when the solution is simple
@mjoves6 жыл бұрын
domino2205 there’s no Mickey mousing anything together.. it all works.. plus if i can make it work then why not do it.. I’m not sure what a gsxt bike is, but if you are referring to a gsxr wheel then it looks horrible on these bikes and inverted forks with spoke wheels looks amazing
