So, people are talking about what they think the song means, but never mentiom the whole dog analogy. It plays in with the part of them laying on their back and showing their belly, which has been ripped to shreds. The reason for this is because dogs (and cats, too) only show their belly to those who they trust, because it's the most vulnurable spot on their body. It's thin skin housing all your internal organs. She was betrayed by her last relationship, really badly, which is represented by her organs being partially removed (ie: she "showed her belly" to someone, and they attacked).

What I'm getting is basically this character was vulnerable at first (shown by the dog revealing its belly) but then their trust got broken (the dog ripping apart showing its organs), soon they spiral into violence because they are confused, wanting to be the shoulder someone cries on but also doesnt want to trust or be trusted by anyone, then at the end I'm guessing they finally gain trust later in their life, basically after the shoulder has grown cold, is soon gains sudden warmth and then the dog reforms again after getting its belly rub and gaining its trust

Think of it like that person was so harmed that what used to be soft lushed petals (Who they used to be, an open and soft individual), were pulled and ripped apart leading them to be replaced by metal or a cold shell that wont allow itself to be ripped apart ever again (Becoming more closed off to others and acting 'cold' in a way with emotioal outbursts to keep distance. Feeling like they could never return back to the open and soft person they once was and who felt trusted and loved by others) idk im guessing here xD also the cake and insecticide thing might be refrences to the person feeling suicidal or being passive suicidal (not being afraid to die at all)? Like they felt so lonely and so closed off that they lost care for themselves in process, and gained a feeling of not getting missed thus having thoughts of eating ghost pie and swimming in insecticide. The mention of the anti poltergeist pie could be, a mention that they dont want to feel that way again or no longer has the same thoughts. They did say "Why not for once try taking my side?" So it could be like one last reach to find someone who can break through their metal petals and open their trust. God this is long xD sidenote I also think their is a chance that the end left with a sad result, or smthing cause the message I got was that nobady truly break throughtheir shell so they fell asleep in the dark of the night. I got this seeing as the 'shoulder grown cold' sentence could mean other people started acting the same way they (the singer) acted to them, so they were left alone. Honestly, think it’s about trying to calm everyone down and trying to be the “cool, person to vent to.” The not-afraid-of-scary-ghosts pie could be showing their friends not to be afraid of everything. But their friends are always sad. They try to cheer them up. Hence the “come on down and make me!” That could be trying to make them feel better. The fade into a softer melody is them taking a slower, more mature approach. The little part before the “no one ever asks that of me” could be them snapping out at their friends. Because we hear someone saying “well actually, i asked before and you said..”, maybe they only try to help when it makes them look cool, makes them feel less lonely. The “poltergeist repelling cake slice” could be them asking to vent to the friend(s?) instead, and the bits with them asking about the lemon slice and whipped cream could be them taking it too far, asking the friends to bite off more than they can chew just like they made them. The part about the flower could be someone/the singer replacing everything about themselves for people who don’t care or truly love them. The part about their friends and family thinking they’re sad all the time is the family maybe realizing that they’re overworking or overdoing everything for people who don’t ever try to change, making them sad as a result. but i relate to this personally because i first heard it when i was in denial about my mental illnesses, and it feels like the feeling when you can’t make anyone happy because they’re always worried you’ll get sad, and then they make you sad.

A lot of people keep calling the lyrics nonsensical but they're really not at all. My writing style for poetry is really similar and I always get frustrated when people can't look past the skin and see the meat. It makes perfect sense to me. I'm not afraid of scary ghost pie, make it all the time. It's bitter but I'm quite fond of nasties on my tastebuds. As for what I understand the lyrics are communicating (but not to put it too plainly because that sucks all the art out of the piece), the song starts out with mania, depression, then the realization that you're strange. The heavy mud, insecticide-you can't get rid of it, but it's poison. It follows you when you're trying to blend in and be "normal", whatever the fuck that word even means. So what do you do? There is no answer, the easy out of life is a temptation that goes against our code. I see the bees as either someone like you who isn't quite right but is making do with what they have. Or alternatively the link of insecticide and then immediately referencing an insect- the match made in hell of broken and vulnerable people. We want to make it work so bad because we both feel pain but one person is the other's poison. At the end of the day, we want to be everyone's dependable guy, but we aren't perfect. Sometimes not even functional. Want to be good so bad but we just can't seem to get the hang of it. Then you get stuck struggling to heep your head above water fighting yourself. Why can't I do this? What's wrong with me? You spend so long wrapped up in the cacophonous screams of uncertainty and self hatred until it just becomes noise. Like, "Oh the walls made of meat? Yeah they came with the house. Paint doesn't cover it up so I gave up and left it as it is." There comes a point struggling to stay afloat inside your own head where you just adapt. You can swim in it? Okay that's amazing! When you embrace it, those scary ghosts aren't scary anymore. Quite literally, you make lemons out of lemonade. If you tap a rotten maple tree, you won't get normal syrup. If there's lots of rice in a location, the residents make more rice products than wheat. You can't produce a perfect fruit pie from a sick tree. The line "Why not for once try taking my side" hit me so hard, because I've been tossed aside so quickly and so many times. Once you're demonized, nobody wants to know the story that got you there. They don't care if there was or wasn't good reason for being outcast or rejected. Trash is dirty and people don't want to touch it. Bugs are icky. Spiders are creepy. Ew. Nothing to do with those things thank you. The cockroach can't come out of the cracks or it'll be stomped. Because it's just gross. Nobody likes them. Nobody's offered a hand to the beetles, nobody wants to deal with the waste. It's indescribably fucking l o n e l y . "um actually, I asked if I could, and you s-" Too late! The learned helplessness has set in, in my mind I've lost before I even begin. If I get close to you it ends in ruin so leave me be. But I'm so lonely. But I'm scared of you and you're scared of me. Someone's got to pull what they want out of you. Come on down and make me! But the test of time has shown I'm not worth the effort, the shoulder only gets colder with time. So what we're left with is the scary ghost pie again. We won't leave the safety of our burrows to compromise, so much has already been wrenched from us. Come share this pie "Can you tell me why friends and family all think that I'm so unhappy?" Familiarity with the pain of coexisting with an inhospitable self has been confused with contentedness. There's a lot of times I'm sobbing or gnashing my teeth and I truly feel fine. But am I? If I had needles in my eye's I'd have an excuse to cry I think. The last lines hit me in a personal place and I know it's not what Sodikken meant. But I find my revelations in watching non-human life go on, like the birds that seem to flock so effortlessly. Do they all sleep in sync? There's one mockingbird in my neighborhood and he sings all night, a gorgeous song where the rest of the birds are quiet. I love him, I'm always happy to hear him sing. But he can never know that. Because he is a bird.

My personal belief is this isn't only one speaker. Rather, they're having a conversation, as oyu've evidenced, but its more than I think you're citing. The last line is implying they're still in some kind of relationship and heal together. This whole thing is kind of animal themed with the dog showing its belly, so the idea of sleeping together accompanies it because animals wont sleep together unless they trust each other. It's asking, despite all of this, maybe we can sleep together.

After listening to this song multiple times I think it just hit me what "scary ghost pie" means in this song! You bite into the pie (getting to know someone) but it tasted nothing (they have a boring persona, so you ghost them) This could be the root to why they say "come on down and make me" whenever they're suggested to leave. I do wish I had something that no one else said here but I really don't, the majorly swinging tones and sometimes gibberish lyrics swings your emotions back and forth. I think one of my favorite parts of Sodakken’s lyrics are the different food symbologies that keep getting used. This song obviously has a ton of them, and of course there’s the cannibalism symbolism used throughout Misery Meat and People Eater, but there’s also a ton throughout Hansel and Grettle. Cheese, apricots, tangerines, mangos and raisins to name a few off the top of my head. There’s something about food metaphors that gets this specific reaction out of me that other things can’t-I’m not sure why.
