Edward was always my favorite since his class at the time (4-4-0s) were prominent at handling express passenger work along with them reaching speeds at 80-85 mph.

Yes, Edward is the Gordon of his generation. He started his life as the hot new cutting edge of express passenger service technology, only to gradually become more outdated and unable to perform at the level he once used to.

@@kennethjoseph9309 There’s only so much they can do to modernize him. They can’t make him bigger, and size is a big part of determining the strength of a steam engine. Even with a full overhaul where every worn-out part is replaced and outdated components are swapped with better performing ones, he’ll still be a 4-4-0 mid-size engine too small to perform at the level necessary for premier express services.

I personally just suddenly came up with the officially well-knowingly clever idea of completely adding the officially well-knowingly required requirements for multiple types of American-origin steam locomotives that officially include automatic coupling devices on the front of the locomotive as well as officially over on the rear of the tender to allow the locomotives to pull American-origin rolling stock with no complete trouble whatsoever despite not including a cowcatcher on the front of the locomotives! Although, they'll specifically still be fitted with an officially 100% specifically wonderfully shiny brasd bell to ring @ any location including railroad yards as well as officially making a brake tender with an official automatic coupling device on the rear that'll basically 100% no unreasonably doubt whatsoever by SIMPLY fitted with an official cowcatcher up @ the front to help prevent everyone from getting seriously hurt if they stray onto the tracks!

Also, apparently for another awesome well-known fact is basically that Fan of Hiro certainly seems to have forgotten to mention that Edward the Blue Engine's own driver along with his own fireman have names SINCE the driver goes by the name of Charlie Sand WHILE the fireman goes by the name of Sidney Hever as stated from the official 9th book in the Railway Series by the Rev W Awdry himself with illustrations by C.
