You know. I have a funny moment about this. I watched this as a kid and even recently. I never understood it. As a kid I thought this was the only ball they had. A month ago at age 27 I was talking to my supervisor almost peeing myself laughing because I didn't know you start and finish the game of cricket with the same ball. I'm in Connecticut and New York. American. Haha

It might not be the most original episode you've written especially when compared to some of your earlier episodes as it's really a rewrite of a couple of stories but still it breathes new life into a classic; I did like the idea of one of Diesel's brothers on the bluebell railway etc Overal it was still enjoyable :)

I'm noticing a huge lapse in logic with this story. First of all why did they bring only one ball? I mean honestly sports balls get lost all the time. Second it probably would have been easier to just buy another ball rather than chasing a train to get the one they lost.

I think Gordon and Duck kept this quiet out of respect for Diesel, given what he did in season 2's Galloping Sausage. In fact, Gordon only told the others about the 08s being withdrawn when Diesel told them why he came to Sodor.
