Great tutorial! So often we see only pieces that people just clean and paint. It was good to see you use stripper and then to describe how you have to use mineral spirits after the stripper. My mom painted her cedar chest years ago. I have no idea what kind of paint. It is avocado green of course. Painted in the 70’s. Not sure if I will have to strip, but at least I know how to do it if I need to. Question ... if the paint job is a pretty good one, would you paint over it not knowing what paint was used by my Mom??? I have been seeing all kinds of videos using Silk Paint. Looking forward to its release in the US. We had dinner with friends last night. Two of the couples used to live in Cheyenne!

I had used a primer on my dining room table, but it ended up being really sticky. I tried to sand it, it just gummed up. I tried citrus stripper and it was still too hard to remove it with plastic scraper. Then I tried leaving a plastic garbage bag on half to cover it overnight. It went through the top layer, not sure If it was poly or not. So now my table is down to bare wood on half and the other half still has topcoat. Should I use something like shellac? It looks like the tannins will bleed through on the bare wood side.

@kerrieshannon86504 жыл бұрын
@@BellaRenovare No I didn't try GF. I Have only been painting a year and a bit.. @@kerrieshannon8650 so I would say silk is pretty similar to fusion also, not super easy to blend but it doesn’t have a plastic feel. I think for blending and artistic finishes the chalk line is the best. Thank you Kerrie you are so sweet 💗💗

I just bought a $40 hutch that was exactly what I was looking for for my office. Not too many curves so I thought stripping wouldn’t be too bad…. NOOOO no idea what was under this thing… it’s been days of stripping. Nasty gummy slimy, parts still wouldn’t come off, had to do so many layers… it’s still only half stripped. I kind of just want to almost leave the rest and paint over it but one piece is the back which I was going to leave bare because this is actually a real mahogany antique.

I was watching your video on blending colors. I’m really frustrated with the process if I feel like I messed up should I sand it down and start over? I used four different colors. I did a dark grey , blended a off white and the dark grey to make a medium grey, and a a soft teal and the off white. In that order. I took on a complicated job as it’s a China cabinet with six doors, Any suggestions on how to blend the color?
@BellaRenovare4 жыл бұрын
I think with colors that are so different it can be tough to blend those, you really want your colors to be complimentary or from the same color family. Maybe walk away practice on a practice board, you don't need to sand it down you should be able to repaint over it. I only strip or sand down finishes that have tons of paint or have bad paint jobs :)
@elnosworld98934 жыл бұрын
So I haven’t done enough research to really be able to give an educated comment that I am my first concern obviously is mineral spirits is something that comes from the petroleum industry and I’m not really keen on the idea honestly even though it might be beautiful I feel like there has to be alternatives that are healthier and if there aren’t than people like yourself might be able to create something new that could actually fill that void and that demand I think that’s the way that we need to be going and I also wondered how well do you do with your creations where you are like for example and I’m just curious what would you charge for the piece that you completed today And since I don’t know the conversion of American money to German I wonder if you could explain it in American terms thank you I really love your channel
@BellaRenovare4 жыл бұрын
I agree, so today I actually did some more research on alternatives. Vinegar and water is an alternative to help neutralize the stripper. I only ever use mineral spirits for that anyways so next time I am going to try it vs the mineral spirits and report back. I agree I am way more supportive of non harsh chemicals and petroleum. That piece would probably be around 225 Euros :)

If using regular DB paints, would you top coat and then white wax?
