I am 58 and have been studying armored vehicles all my life. I have over 50 models and 100 books. I have been in 1 Sherman Easy 8 tank when I was 11. I am jealous!!!! They need to open these vehicles up to the public, to at the least, to look inside.

Awesome to hear more about these less hyped vehicles. Even more so when it comes from the walking "German Armor" encyclopedia himself! The chemistry between the two of you furthers the delightfulness of watching your videos quite substantially too of course. 😍 Aaand I must admit that I always found the Sdkfz 22Xs to be rather sexy vehicles. 😅

As always Mr. Doyle does an excellent job in conveying his vast knowledge of military equipment. I didn't realize that any 223's had survived the war and seeing this one was a real treat. Another vehicle that had been stripped clean of most of the internal components, which makes a complete restoration a nightmare. Sometimes you can fabricate look-alike parts (we had to do that to restore an SU-76 using parts from an Zis-3 as a template) but some stuff just can't be found anywhere.

Not so much for me, but for the future generations. I was telling my friend I have personally known 2 people who actually saw Hitler in person and one of who was in the German airforce during the war..I also know a guy who was in the UK army post war stationed in North Africa fighting rebellious locals, he has told me stories about all the armor stored out in the desert and how they went on for miles. He told me tales about gardening them and getting into shootouts in the desert with this Lee Enfield and his team members using the Brin...it's so long ago, but it's not..Vietnam vets are older now than WWII vets were when i was born..today someone 18 years old has zero idea how real history is

It's nice to see the inside of a 223, we have a replica 222 that we built here in ohio. It's also not like most, where it is built on a VW bus chassis or a Land rover chassis or any one chassis. Ours uses 2 88-98 half ton chevy front axles with a frame in between. It is rear engine, automatic transmission for easiness of building, and it's all wheel drive all wheel independent suspension, and could be all wheel steer. We use a 350 chevy v8 to power ours, she's got some getup and go. LOL, we're also going to build a replica 223 as well.

I was fortunate to meet a former tank driver (Panthers) who served in the Grossdeutschland Division. One bit of information he casually mentioned is that the radio operator communicated via Morse code with the other tank units. I know they had a throat mike to communicate inside the tank, but I always assumed they verbally communicated with other tanks in the same formation, as we currently do. Was he talking only of a command tank communicating with regimental HQ via Morse code?

Great interior view. Not exactly very ergonomic as that steering wheel would be a cast iron bitch to wrestle around. Can't even imagine Sofi and Mr. Doyle doing "oh, bugger! the armored car's on fire." with that kind of arrangement.

Just pantomiming, it seems more like turning a valve handle than a steering wheel. Perhaps a 12 & 6 o clock hold for enough leverage with that angle.

Well the "seat" position is the result of the armor design for German light armored vehicles they had studies to minimize the weight of the armor without an decrease in protection and the shape is the thing they came up and the size of the stearingwheel is needed because hydraulic assisted stearing wasn't a used by Germany

Few people realize the advantages the Germans had in making their panzer units able to take on larger numbers was that all of their armor had radios and the vast majority of the optics were made by Zeiss. The Zeiss optics were so respected by the Russians that though the remainder of Germany and Austria were ravaged, the Russians were under strict orders not to touch any Zeiss factories, nor were the employees to be harmed.
