Thanks! Technically swimmable, but it’s a very gentle slope, the sand is all black and there’s no coral. So you CAN swim there, but you won’t see anything snorkelling!

I’m not sure about the main hotel, I’m sure there would be. However there is definitely a smokers area in Waitui, it’s near the bar and had a table and chairs with an umbrella for shade.
