Because it can disappear in the blink of an eye. That the “backed by the gold standard promise” is very misleading from the banks. Just something to think about. My advice to everyone is this : if you want to grow big this year especially in your finances. Be willing to make investments. Saving is great but investing puts you on a pedestal where you wouldnt have to worry about savings as you do now. @@Channelccw my recommendation would be to pay yourself first until you’ve at least created your Peace Out Fund (aka emergency fund) and use any remaining to pay off high interest debts first. If you can get the interest on student loans frozen or lowered, do that as well. Are you located in the US or Canada?

I was in the same boat. I saved up $1,800 in a short amount of time… I decided to put it towards my student loans (unfortunately I didn’t know to tell them to apply it to the principal. They only applied $78 to the principal). A couple weeks later, i got injured as was on disability for 6 weeks. I was paid 60% of my income on disability. Had I paid myself throughout the year first… I would have been okay. 60% pay… my car almost got repoed. Paying yourself first = security.

Instead, once you’ve been paid, pay yourself, then use the remaining to pay off your mandatory obligations (rent, groceries, debt). Please let me know if that helped 🙂

I save 30% of my income and invest it into my high yield savings account, Roth IRA, HSA, and making extra principal payments toward my car loan. The rest of my income goes toward shopping, auto loan, car insurance, groceries, takeout, traveling and my phone billI feel like I’m not investing enough in other things to make more money 🙄 If I made an extra 10k I would able to comfortably afford living alone instead of family and deal with other people’s negative opinions about me living with family still in my late twenties😖😓 What assets should invest in yield a higher return in my money Lyn? I only make $2800 monthly and making 4000 would be more comfortable
