I’m a night shift nurse, a wife and a mom of 2 young boys. Life gets so crazy sometimes. I feel like I have no grasp of any part of my life. I was also doing KZbin and instagram videos on top of it. I felt anxious most of the time. Now I’m taking a break from social media. I feel free and my anxiety is gone. In fact, I don’t even feel like I want to get back to social media until my kids grow older. There is so much peace in disconnecting from the social media world. I am now living in my soft era. I do lots of activities with my boys. I journal. I garden and take care of my home. it feels like I have so much time and it’s so peaceful. Everything happens in my own pace, and I have time. It can be done! Thank you for this inspiring video

I second this! As a fellow nurse & shift worker I am too in my soft era. I was burnt out after the Pandemic and hadn’t been looking after myself. Always working… all of this stress led to a slipped disc in my back & have been off on leave the past 9months. I have also deleted my IG and don’t really use other platforms (besides YT of course!) and the difference in impeccable! I’m not constantly looking at friends and influencers stories constantly on my phone. Since stepping back I can see how toxic it can be. I’ve also taken up gardening and yoga and my life has changed drastically for the better 🙏🙌

I'm a nurse and working nights is not good x I gave up nights yrsrs ago when I became so stressed with not sleeping . If u can manage fine but if u can't I'd find a job which doesn't require night duty x trust me it's not worth it x I regret ever working nights when my kids were small.

4 steps I took -no social media except KZbin and not after 9 -moved to a smallish town (under 10000 people) - no traffic, safe, quiet, peaceful -work from home only -got the kind of dogs I’ve always wanted regardless of the stereotypes and judgment and walk them every morning after my at home workout and then sit in my in home sauna Still grinding and still work a lot!!! ….but these 4 things were game changers for me and those are my “soft life” hacks Not a rich white lady either I took a pay cut to work remote but saved up for my sauna and dogs and not going to the gym or buying Starbucks etc being in the streets, eating out has also improved my physical health and the financials to do these other things .

My question is...what if ive always been living in the soft life era but my family/friends arent and they judge my lifestyle? Also at times being around them makes me feel less just because im not as busy as they are? For example one of my friend, who seems to LOVE her busy lifestyle and have lots of social circles kept asking me what do i do at home (in a condescending way at times)? Im a happy sahm most days just busy with my children and works around the house and i like my me time like netflix, walks atound the park, trying new recipes...and why does that seems too boring for her? 😅 help me explain.

I grew up in the 1970s and my mom was married and was the epitome of the working mom who also taught classes at church and volunteered. But, she never had time for herself or her children. Unfortunately, I became just like her just in a different form. I was the Sahm who homeschooled our children and made everything from scratch. We both burned out with serious mental and physical issues

@lynnemanning9553

Life can be hard. I think it can be very wise to make life more "simple", I think I like that word better than soft. Because life can be hard, no matter if you have a sauna and the dogs you want, and the home job making enough money. I think it is definitely smart to take out the speed with which some of us think our lives have to operate, which can make life very stressful, simply because we think that is how life should be....I guess, that has been our model throughout our lives. What I hear from this is that there is a lot of calculated control over making things soft, but life is full of ups and downs, and it doesn't matter how much we try to always have our life going smoothly and most comfortably, shit happens! And we must learn to accept and embrace those challenges, whether they be health, financial, family, problems etc,....We don't really learn any of the bigger lessons in life, unless we have adversity in our own lives, which will inevitably show up. So I think we all have to be careful, no matter how "soft" you are making your life, be realistic and accepting of the challenges that will show up. Human beings get stuck in ruts and go to the total opposite end of the spectrum, protecting their lives from any stress, which is impossible, and we were built to handle stress, which is a reassuring thought when the shit does hit the fan. Life can't be soft and controlled all of the time....life is full of obstacles and challenges, so don't over protect yourself so much that you freak out when something hard comes your way. A good meditation practice and always focusing on how grateful we are for our lives, and truly looking at what you are grateful for, like a roof over our heads, good food, pets, kids, we are not living in a war zone, we are healthy, on and on.....These routine practices really do bring a depth into our lives, so that this "soft" life isn't just about the superficial. Be of service in your life to others, like the planet, animals, people, etc. We don't need so much stuff, something else that is confused with "soft" but very terrible for us and the planet.

Taking a bath, reading a book in my room, having my favorite coffee etc…Toddlers teach you to be in the moment because when you are not all hell brake loose 😄

I agree this is a nice way to live. But, it's unrealistic. We will always have to do things that stress us out or make us unhappy. Unless you have someone, who basically does everything for you--from cooking, cleaning, navigating through traffic, paying your taxes, doing your job for you, repairing things like your car, managing your kids and spouse, while you lay in a lawn chair pampering yourself, you will never live a fully soft life. I love my job, but it is very fast-paced and sometimes stressful. I'm not going to quit because I get tired or there are things I dislike dealing with. I get through it. No matter how much you try to buffer your mind and body from the demands of just living to live a life of ease and mental comfort, there will ALWAYS be challenges. Sorry to rain on the Zen here, but the best we can do is accept Life's challenges as they come, but find moments of sanctuary for ourselves. These trends of striving for zero stress in life are non-sustainable and just not reality. 😢

My husband and I had a good laugh at this with two of our kids who are medically fragile, both with chromosome triplications. We kind of look at life the opposite now, you don’t know what you CAN handle until you have to. Life will mess up plans in a hot minute, and I think we have to accept and embrace that sometimes. This video seems like some kind of fever dream to a lot of us, but cheers to you if you can really do all that is blissful here. But please don’t feel bad if , like me, you had to find big humor in this because of life circumstances that just are right now.

I think the point is to be aware...do what you can. Get up early enough to not be running late every day. Be prepared for events ahead of time..buy and wrap the gift. Plan meals so you aren't stressed about meals and wasting money on fast food. There are so many small things which can help reduce some stress while raising kids...don't overbook their schedule or yours. Enjoy your family time more and less panic mode helps the kids also. Best wishes to you.

It’s because my life has never been aligned with such an early wake up time and early bed time. The realisation that we are putting our faith, and often our *lives* in the hands of doctors who are having such little sleep that it’s pretty much a given that they will be making mistakes, and literally cannot be functioning at anywhere close to full mental capacity, has been a terrifying one for me, especially as a chronically ill individual. This goes for all healthcare professionals, nurses, HCAs, and all other hands on supporting staff, including the cleaners and canteen staff, etc. Everything is interconnected, everyone is connected, every interaction matters. We *all* need enough rest, and we *all* have a responsibility to look after ourselves as best we can so that we *can* look after others, and allow that care to cycle back to us as and when we may need it. Blah blah - Put your own oxygen mask on first - blah blah - Self-care is vital, not selfish - blah blah - One cannot pour from an empty cup - blah etc. etc. It’s only when our own needs are fulfilled that we have enough to give to others, too. Sadly, I can’t remember the last time I spoke to someone who felt this was even an option, myself included…

look into incline bed theory. it is just simply raising the head side of your bed 15 cm or 5-6 inches. Animals sleep in an incline if they can.

I always practices slow oiling as I do live in the highlands, but since losing my husband in December, he was only 59, I'm 54, I realize even more now that life is just too short. You only get one life, some people choose to go out and live life fast and furiously, sky diving, tightrope walking, running marathons, others (like me) live slow, redecorate the house, spend more time in the garden grow my own produce, cosy by the fire on rainy cold days,get outside in the sun and cook outside in the sunny days, I'm going to quit my job in a couple of years and try and make my cottage table top small business pay for itself

@the_greenhouse_gardener I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your husband 😞 how are you doing? 59 is so young. I'm glad to hear you're spending time redecorating and gardening etc. Those things must bring a lot of comfort and purpose to your days. We sadly lost my stepdad in September and my Mum has been dooms the same sorts of things as you. It's a stark reminder of how short and precious life is and I'm glad to hear you're filling your days with beautiful activities. I hope you're doing well.

Hugs from a mom with two profoundly disabled daughters. Read my comment to the commentator above yours. Find humor, lots and lots of humor, everywhere. Something that was life changing for us was a service dog. The process was hard and very stressful, but once she was trained to the specific needs, she will alert before the monitors, allowing me my first full few hours of sleep because I didn’t have to half sleep listening for the monitors. If at all possible, when your child is the right age, push though the looooooong, often stressful process of a service dog if needed and if you can. Seriously, that first block of sleep when I knew the dog would alert, knew to my core that she would, was such a night of extreme gratitude. So, I guess, lots and lots of humor ( even dark humor, all kinds of humor) and gratitude when you do find things or moments of reprieve that help- deep gratitude for any “sparks” if you will. When my girls were babies, I literally could not picture surviving, so I hear you, I get you - hugs!!

Does soft life sound good? Sure. Could I myself implement some of this in my life? Probably. However… a lot of what is said is from a point of extreme privilege. Thinking of single moms, people having to juggle several jobs just to make ends meet… “just have a nice pastry and prioritise yourself… invest in bed sheets… pay someone to do your chores…” I mean… that’s a slap in the face… come on… of course life is better then, but many of the great ideas here are simply not achievable for a lot of people. Does that mean that the content is “wrong” in itself? Not necessarily, but it would be nice to be more honest to call it “The (probably white) rich peoples’ guide to soft life.”
@SarahNicholls
@SarahNicholls Ай бұрын
You're right, I definitely should acknowledge my privilege here. I realise I am so fortunate in ways that many others aren't and I don't want to gloss over that. This video is meant to serve as a reminder to treat ourselves well and recognise that we deserve happiness, self-respect and joy in our lives. I've spent most of my life making things harder for myself or not feeling deserving in one way or another, so I view this trend is a celebration of viewing ourselves as worthy. It's not intended to cause offense, and I'm sorry if it did!

I think maybe the point...be aware. I like the idea of using apps to do things. Order groceries for delivery is one...when my kids were small I basically bought the same groceries every week. Place order, have delivered. Pay bills set them on auto pay. Get up early enough to not be rushed. Have meals thought out ahead. A few little changes might help. I raised kids as a single mom...they learned how to use the washer and dryer, make simple meals grilled cheese, scrambled eggs. The implementation might be different for everyone but small changes can make a difference. Start somewhere! Best wishes ❤

May I ask, how having kids and taking care of them fits into the "soft life"? I am just bursting out with laughter:) It's very cute to have capuchinos and folded white towels lying around but, really, with kids?:) Somehow unrealistic, somehow late adolescent or single lady with cats/dogs like idea, rather than real life compatible.

You really shouldn’t waste your time explaining your videos and saying that you should’ve mention this and that… you don’t owe anyone an explanation. Their opinions are just that. I’m a single mother of 2 toddlers and not well off by any means, but I’m practicing the “soft life” when I can squeeze a minute in for myself. I don’t have to be rich to take things away from your video. Sounds like a lot of victim mentality and whining.

That is probably true to an extent and I should have acknowledged that privilege in the video. Interestingly, the 'soft life' trend was started by Nigerian influencers.
