Pop culture is probably the most important soft power. It allows you to win the hearts and minds of the general public. I consider money as gray power. It can be used to produce hard power or soft power.

Gamson's "The strategy of social protest" contains a chapter called "The success of the unruly." It provides evidence for and argues that violence IS an effective tool. Most recently on the domestic front we have seen violence achieve desired ends in the BLM riots. The idea that violence is flatly not productive is simply wrong. There are lots of other factors that come in to play that determine whether it is or isn't.

Not wishing to be harsh, but Kletner himself mentions ISIS. Ruthless violence worked well for a lot of people. Hitler was doing ok. Stalin. Any number of dictatorial small business owners (verbal violence). Same for Jim Crow. Very nice blue-eyed white, blonde and charismatic professor seems to be floating off on his own realities. And, dear prof, you might want to stop with the "you knows" and other fillers designed to make you seem casual because it also makes you look less smart

You’re completly miss the point. Keltner does emphasize the concept of enduring power, which typically stems from trust, respect, and mutual benefit rather than coercion or fear. This distinction is critical, as enduring power aligns closely with the qualities of soft power, such as influence, persuasion, and cultural appeal. Hitler’s rule, while initially powerful, lacked the sustained legitimacy and reciprocal goodwill that characterize enduring power. His reign relied heavily on force, intimidation, and propaganda, which are the opposite of Keltner's enduring power that sustains through positive influence.
