Soft Proofing for Great Prints

A question: Could you add a mask to the "lifeless" areas and bump up the saturation there? I'm using a Canon Pro-10 with Precision Color pigment inks. I needed to mess about with the manual color adjustment settings for those inks but now I've got them dialed in pretty good. But this and other videos on soft proofing certainly has raised the bar for my print. I've just done a test with two quite different papers, MOAB Slickrock Metalic Pearl and River River Palo Duro Etching. Now, after soft proofing with the corresponding ICC profiles and using simulating paper and ink (on my recently calibrated monitor, 6500k 120lu), I couldn't believe how darn close the prints were to what was on my monitor. WOW!! Now in hindsight, I certainly wasted a lot of paper and ink trying to get my colours as correct as possible. Thanks for this video Don.

Hi Don! Thanks for doing this tutorial! It's very helpful. One question: After you click "Create a Proof Copy" how do you turn on the mask that shows the colors that are not part of the color gamet? My mask is not showing up. Thanks for your time. Arlene

Click on the two triangle in the Curves box Arlene - top left and top right to activate!

I think that your acceptance of the changes in your image prior to sending off for processing would not be acceptable to everyone, myself included. Also, you fail to discuss why you recommend against using the specific icc codes provided by Bay Photo for their particular printers and papers. I don’t see a recommendation on Bay Photo’s web site, on their soft proofing page, for general use of sRGB colorspace. I found this tutorial less than helpful

Bay Photo does not offer icc codes Joel. Their recommendation is to prep in sRGB mode.
