+Wrathborn771 Yeah, if you can reach your TV with an HDMI cable there's really no reason for a Steam Link. But for those of us who can't, it's a great solution. Yeah the compression is barely visible at medium-to-high bitrate settings, and the latency isn't too bad if you have a reliable connection. I haven't had much luck with wifi myself, but I've been using a powerline ethernet adapter and it works well.

+sethrusso45 Yeah, sorry about that sound. It's the autofocus motor on my camera. I have my mic mounted in the hotshoe mount on top of my camera, and it seems to pick up the slight vibrations. I'm curious and I never bothered to ask. Is your intro a genuine program? Or is it just a little animation? Because it'd be pretty sweet if that was an actual executable file (or command anyway) that's pretty freakin' sweet.
@theASMRnerd9 жыл бұрын
+JustPure1 Haha good question! When I originally conceived of it, I did in fact consider writing a little program for the purpose. In the end though, I just made an animation with some editing trickery. In retrospect, it might have actually been faster to do the program,.
@twilightyuki_9 жыл бұрын
Honestly, I thought it was a little thingy done in C++. Wouldn't be that hard if you had the text below the .exe trigger via a String looking for "theasmrnerd.exe" as the input text, with a separate string labeling the location of the "file" you're loading.

I use it intermittently, though not often for gaming. It mostly gets used as a video streaming box, for which it works well, and it's nice that I can fire up a game on it if I like. It definitely benefits from having an ethernet connection though; wifi has never provided me a satisfactory experience when gaming. To be fair, that's with wireless N rather than AC, so it might work fine over AC. Curious to hear what your experience is!

I was considering buying a steam controller! How do you like it??
@theASMRnerd9 жыл бұрын
+JimmyDThing I think it's a well-designed piece of hardware, but whether you'll get any use out of it depends entirely on your usage case. It really only makes sense if you're not at your computer. If you want to play mouse-driven games at your TV, then it's a good option. So far I've tried it in Civ 5 and Fallout 4. It works really great for Civ 5, and I've been playing it regularly on my TV from my bed. It's OK for FO4, but I still prefer mouse + keyboard. I suspect that would be the case for most shooter; the touchpad just isn't as accurate or intuitive as a mouse. With some practice, you could probably get good with it. I wouldn't want to play anything that's mouse-drive and fast-paced though, like an RTS or MOBA. I think it's just a bit too cumbersome for that. Though again, maybe with practice you could get good with it.
@JimmyDThing9 жыл бұрын
+theASMRnerd That is all really good info. I have somewhat of an atypical situation. Right now, my PC is connected directly to my TV. I use a wireless keyboard with a touchpad from my couch or remote to it from a laptop. Kind of strange, I know, but it's useful as a media PC and I prefer couch gaming because I sit at a desk all day for work. Right now I use my PS4 controller, but it does make some things a little tough. I still might get it just as an experiment. I figured if I get used to it I might get a Link when I move into a bigger place and actually have an office for my desktop to be at. Thanks! :)

I've been thinking of buying one of these, it seems cool. You inspired me to get the Logitech G502 and that mouse works WONDERS for me, I'm in love with it haha, do you think this would be worth the 100 dollars CAD?
@theASMRnerd8 жыл бұрын
+YourTypicalSquid Glad you're enjoy the mouse! I'm still loving mine. And do you mean the steam link, or the steam controller, or both?
@Elifilms1008 жыл бұрын
***** I'm hoping to get both.
@theASMRnerd8 жыл бұрын
+YourTypicalSquid Well, I'd say it depends on your usage. The Steam Link really only makes sense if you want to play PC games on a TV, and it's too far away to run an HDMI cable. Also, if you want to use it over wifi, you better have at least wireless N and very good reception, but preferably wireless AC. The controller is a bit more versatile and if you think it looks interesting then it's worth checking out. I use it occasionally, and it's good for games that are designed for the mouse. But I mostly still use my 360 controller if I'm gonna use a controller at all.
@Elifilms1008 жыл бұрын

@connorPiper08 жыл бұрын
+jgonzo720 Steam machines are usually Small Form Factor computers that run either Windows or SteamOS (A modified version of Linux) and are meant to play more simple games. They have decent hardware for their size, but not enough to really play AAA games. The Steam link lets you stream your computer to your TV. And the USB ports let you connect Keyboard + Mouse to play games.

hiya huge fan of the channel, I also have an asmr channel...it's taking a while to take off though...I was hoping for some tips on how to get the content out there....is it simply waiting til you reach 1k subs and then it takes off? is it paying for the extra exposure through YT? any advice would be appreciated
@theASMRnerd6 жыл бұрын
Hey man, took at look at your channel and I dig your style! You seem like a genuine guy. Honestly, so much of success on YT has to do with luck. It's mostly been slow, steady growth for me, but I had some lucky breaks were I got featured in articles on various websites. I've never paid for exposure, by maybe some of the bigger channels have, I don't know. Also, I started my channel at a time when ASMR was just becoming popular, so I got to take advantage of the growth. I honestly think that if I started my channel today, I'd have serious trouble growing it, because there are so many out there now. All that said, my best advice is to 1) Create a visual brand for your channel and video thumbnails that looks consistent, so people can immediately recognize your stuff; 2) Interact with your viewers as much as possible to make them feel special; 3) Keep being consistent and regular with your uploads; 4) Reach out and make friends with other ASMR creators in the community (collabs are a great way to do this); 5) Keep doing what you love, because your passion makes for better videos, and is key for your motivation. Hope you find some of those tips helpful mate! All the best.
@OLISASMRWORLD6 жыл бұрын
theASMRnerd hey bud seriously appreciate the time you took to write the reply and give me the advice. I reply to every comment I receive and make the effort to make people feel like they are part of the channel. In terms of the collaboration. ..I know I don't have much to offer in terms of channel exposure but once I have a few more followers it would be cool to do a swap box with yourself if you where good with that? I watched and enjoyed your video with donna asmr....that was a cool colab. Regardless of teether or not you would want to colab, I fully appreciate the advice....also of people on here seem to forget that they started out small, so when you ask for advice they don't even bother to respond. So that shows you have kept up your standards regardless of channel growth. stay cool bud
@theASMRnerd6 жыл бұрын
No problem man! It sounds like you're doing a lot of good things for channel growth. Sometimes it just takes time and persistence. Another thing I forgot to mention is you can post your videos to the ASMR subreddit, www.reddit.com/r/ASMR , which can help you gain exposure. I'm beyond booked up for collabs right now, but remind me down the road a bit, and maybe we can do something! Glad you enjoyed my box swap with Donna, that was fun. And don't be too hard on those bigger ASMR channels: most of the time, creators would LOVE to respond to every comment and message they receive, but it's just impossible. Honest truth is, on a different day, I may not have seen your comment or had time to reply. I used to reply to every single comment, without fail, but these days it would easily be a full-time job to do that, and my channel isn't even that big compared to some. So I sympathize with those creators who want to reply to every person, but simply can't. If you want to catch the attention of a particular bigger creator, I'd say just be persistent and polite, and eventually they'll see your input and give you a reply. But don't hold it against them if they don't :)

I doubt (hope) you won't be playing any FPSs from your couch on that thing - even if it came w/two analog sticks...Maybe I'm wrong but traditionally FPS controller woes will still exist most likely. I don't mind playing an FPS on console with other console players....but using a controller when others are sitting with a mouse and keyboard is likely not optimal. Slower paced games and fighting games will likely suite this controller just fine.
