Some coaches teach the peel drop instead of a normal fastball. I highly recommend it!!!

At :49 seconds she follows thru the full speed drop ball toward the catcher while allowing her hand, wrist, elbow and shoulder to articulate into internal rotation and pronation. In other words, she follows thru long to the catcher and let's her hand naturally turn as if reaching forward to pick something up. Why does she then instruct others to snap up in a high arm position with the joints supinated and externally rotated (opposite of what she did full speed)?

I had the same thought when watching this, what she actually does is not what she is explaining!

Well said. Jennie Finch says and does the same. Watch Jennie slow motion. She internally rotates. Then after pitch is almost at catcher she then artificially does “hello elbow”

Thank you! I love Amanda because she is not a physical phenom-she is the height and size of the girls we teach, and therefore teaches with a little more common sense. Only a top spin can make a ball drop. It's called the Magnus Effect-physics. Rollover drops don't drop they move to the side. If a sideways spin made a ball drop then a screwball would also drop, but it goes sideways. A right-handed screwball and a left-handed rollover drop have the same spin. Yet we tell the right-hander the ball moves in towards the batter, and we tell the left-hander the ball drops. Huh? The rollover drop torques the elbow away from the body. (see Jennie Finch kzbin.info/www/bejne/gKS5aYavZtpgj68) (see Cat Osterman-kzbin.info/www/bejne/j5emk6Chgplqp8k) Film your pitcher from the front and watch it back in slow motion, and you'll see. We would never teach boys to torque their arms like that. Stick with the peel drop.

So I think my dtr was initially taught a drop ball vs a true fastball per this grip. It's also consistent with the movement of her ball. Good info.

What does the more advanced grip do for the pitch like what is the advantage? If there is any.

Where your four fingers lay on the top two of them are together on one side and two are together on the other

Isn't there another way to do a drop ball? Where you twist the wrist so it comes out of the back of your hand?
@cassidyallison39003 жыл бұрын
No, what your talking about would be a change-up...at least that's how I was taught mine
@jadenshimp5927 жыл бұрын
It doesn't appear to drop much.

Which drop ball is better for a 5'2 pitcher roll over or peel?
@cassidyallison39003 жыл бұрын
The peel drop is harder to do but it has a stronger drop while a rollover drop goes more inside and then drops and is easier to get. I'm 5 foot and throw a peel drop, it's my go-to pitch personally I think the peel drop is better but that is my opinion
