Ryan Martinie is one of my favourite bassists of all time alongside Victor Wooten, Les Claypool, Marcus Miller, and a few others. I'm so happy that we get to hear every note he plays in Soften the Glare. I love Mudvayne, but Ryan's incredible bass playing on Mudvayne often gets squashed between the wall-of-sound guitar mix and kick drums. Here, it's all crystal clear in all of its glory. The rest of the band is amazing too. Long live Soften the Glare! ❤

Music is an intimate bond created from giving yourself over to you instrument, and furthermore letting it not take control of you, but rather letting it guide your expressiveness and creativity, so it can create for you something wonderful. Sharing this kind of bond with like minded people is about the most beautiful thing you can do with your life in my opinion. Music is a magic anyone can obtain with enough effort, and it becomes downright profound when you use this magic with others.

My dad actually met Ryan when he was with Mudvayne. He said it was the best thing that's ever happened to him. Chad was a dick, but Ryan actually wanted to hang out with my dad. And so, my dad actually quit playing the bass when he heard Mudvayne, cause Ryan is the mother fuckin best bass player in the world, and Ryan was so distraught! He was like, "No! I didn't want you to quit! That wasn't my intention!" and my dad was like, "After I heard you play, I knew I couldn't be up to par with you. You're so talented and amazing." Mortal of the story, my dad is a dumbass for quitting playing the bass cause he thought he was horrible compared to Ryan. (Which he really wasn't) But yes, he met Ryan and I really want to meet him one of these days. Also, he's the one who gave me the link to this video when it first came out.

Mudvayne was my favorite band, I met the guys on multiple occasions and they where super nice! But I now realize mudvayne without Ryan is just hellyeah. Side note, Ryan was the nicest guy I ever met in the metal scene.

Agreed about Ryan. All 3 guys in the band are so nice. They let me come "backstage" when I saw them last year because I donated some money for their gas and they signed my poster and gave me a copy of the setlist (all of which are framed and hanging in my office). Ryan talked to my girlfriend and I for at least 15-20 minutes and thanked us numerous times for coming to the show. Looking forward to seeing them again next month.

i used to work in a bird store. Ryan came in regularly to buy birdseed - yes, this rock star fed the birds. And he was one if the friendliest, nicest people I ever met.

Jay Hernandez its pretty obvious from the tone alone. especially when one plays a fretless themselves, nothing sexier sounding than a fretless wick

its the custom fretless warwick made for him it just has fret inlays for effect, and yeah the tone itself gives it away

Blacksheep He's NOT a purist, by the way. A purist would be opposed to such things being used by anyone, not just themself. "I like the natural approach to playing, and I'm not exactly - I'm not a purist, I mean, go for it. If you like synth bass, octave pedals and stuff, then utilize it. I'm not against any of that stuff, but I do like to find those things with my hands." -excerpt from his wiki page. KZbin doesn't like links, but I'm sure you can find it, or the original interview. :)
