Softening And Smoking A Bear Hide
In this video I demonstrate how to soften and smoke a bear hide. This method will work for any type of brain or buckskin, but not bark tan hides. This is my personal setup and go-to method that is very easy to follow.

Aye thanks! Really appreciate it. Egg solution is great for softening the hide if you’re out of brains. Works just as well to be honest, just need some sort of high fatty/oil to get on the hide, then back to cranking it with the ole elbow grease. Super glad to hear you’re doing great. Stay in touch. @@sammysmokies Haha, awesome! Yeah I am going to have to try that for sure! That hide looked phenomenal! On your hide breaking tool you built, what did you use for the piece of metal? I have a friend who only uses a half sawn plow disc and has good results but it weighs too much. I'm looking for something lightweight and portable to build. I've even heard of the Lakota using old dulled down scythe blades with good results.

Just took angle grinder and cut up an old metal square and screwed it to that setup. I’m also trying to build a mobile setup because I’m about to head back out west and I’ll be in my truck a lot

Little bit of olive oil is fine. No oil is good too
