Believe or not I'm exploring new things with this one (eg try to send square VCO1 to filter mod input) you get snappy attack. Those 6 sliders are like macro controls in ableton. Peter & Bastl really made this one great. For example I want to alter the sequencer code (attiny85) to get me better notes eg: minor pentatonic etc, but the oscilators are not too stable so I have few challenges. A lot of plans too little time. check other vids a lot of cool stuff here. Thanks for stopping by

@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
That is the CRAZY about this machine, it is the combination of T&H and some feedback to get that kind of reaction... the reverrb and heavy compression in the middle frequencies keep the sound in "boundaries"...I think at times I prefer softpop compared to 0-coast ... 0-coast == too much time spent on patching

Loving the deep gritty vibes here. Lots of attitude in that synth. The Boss looks and sounds like a really nice pedal. Sounds like it has combo effects? I can hear delay and reverb at the same time. PO-32 is a great little drum machine. I'd love it if they built a bigger version with multiple outs and midi. Probably not going to happen but that would be cool. It's pretty rad just the way it is though. We must be on a similar tip right now. I just released a simple set up/PO and synth vid myself. This was great.
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
Nice to see you here Matt ... yes the boss pedal is a combo but delay does not have many parameters. You can actually do a dual mode with two verbs at the same time. You can definitely dial up a strymon shimmer verbs and go deep into the parameters, really one of the best reverb pedals on the market... I need to play more with the unit as I have to play with the PO-32 and sub PO ... They sound way to different when used alone compared when used together .... Haha ... I noticed the de-ja-vu with some other YT guys, Todd Smith, Margherita or oillabs come to mind ...keep it up man love your stuff too!

BTW, I've also been looking at a Twisted Electronics Crazy8 Sequencer, not that pricey and it feels like it could be a great complement to my SoftPop, Ants!, and hopefully within a couple months , the Quantrid Swarm.
@FunkTree6 жыл бұрын
I will look into the Crazy sequencer... never heard of ... BTW if you ever think of going modular (You are..:) since you mentioned the Ants) .. The varigate 4+ (Moleeko butchering their name) is great, but not as easy to edit as SQ-1 .. but probability on the Varigate is why I got it. Man the modular is fricking addiction and for modular oscillator I highly recommend BIA of Noise engineering. BTW how is your Softpop tracking ? can you get more than two octaves in-tune ? (you'd probably need modular to find out:)
@PaulBoos6 жыл бұрын
I haven't noticed a tuning problem with my SoftPop as of yet, but haven't really been paying attention that much as I've mostly just been working with it by itself so far. Plan to pull in the Ants simultaneously this weekend. I didn't notice any issue when it was alongside my VolcaBass.
@PaulBoos6 жыл бұрын
Funk Tree well I noticed some issues today with it occasionally choosing to go sharp a half a semi time up. It also seemed to lose some of it's 'smoothness' in its's playback as it responded to external syncing.
@FunkTree6 жыл бұрын
I noticed this.... and I think the VCO1 is the culprit:) .....when the VCO1 flips state the VCO0 gets out of tune for a second ...I think "somehow" VCO1 is always wired to vco0 even if the switches are all off in the secret compartment ....weird ....btw there are two pots when you unscrew the bottom (warranty) to calibrate the VCO0 and VCO1 ...so you'd be able to get 3-4 octaves out of VCO0 ....but VCO1 is not as lucky...couldn't do two independent voices with softpop in more than one octave range
@PaulBoos6 жыл бұрын
Funk Tree great info... I haven't poked around in the secret compartment yet.

Just got my softpop today. Really dug the acid sound you are grabbing with it and sq-1. I am trying to sequence it with the sq-1 as well but can't quite get that sound. Also getting quite a bit of rhythmic noise. Any tips?
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
Ben, great you have it. The only situation I had noise was with SQ-1 gate .. When you look at my last vid with SP you will see a LED and Resistor The LED "slaps" the gate voltage to 1-2 volts instead of 5 volts. So I don't get too much clicks .... another option is to use some attenuator to decrease the gate voltage, if you get the clicks without any external connection then that could be VCO1. Also with SQ-1 you have to find a sweet spot I know I did a lot of discovery with various connections/voltages etc. Actually I got more problems tracking two octaves with SQ-1. The cool thing about SoftPop (SP) is that you could use a capacitor where one leg of capacitor goes to ground (patching points with mono cable read the manual) and other leg of capacitor (22nF 220nF ) would to go to patch point that has too sharp edge and creates a click sound. So a bit of electronic knowledge would help... Anyhow please post some vids :)

Came back to this for some inspiration. I was trying to see how you had the wires running from the PO to the SoftPop and also the SQ-1 to the SoftPop, as well as the setting on the dial SQ-1... I got some basic synchronization, but really like some of what I am hearing hear so want to experiment using what you did as a starting point. (I may throw some delay on it using a Kaoss Pad I have for some radicalness.) I'll be using a VolcaBeats, not a PO, but figure it may be worth understanding what you have going on. So I get the lower row is feeding VCO1 (CV I presume?) Upper Row is feeding when to play (CV and gate?), PO is feeding the sync?, and is also going into Ext. Is the dial on the SQ-1 switched to the dual ping pong mode? I wasn't aware you can have one row of activation on the SQ-1 be shorter than the play row. (It sounds/appears like the top row is using all 8, but the bottom row is only doing 4?) Just trying to get a handle on this to launch my own creativity.... Cheers!
@FunkTree6 жыл бұрын
Yeah,, I needed to look into this video to give you the answer b/c I change stuff a lot ....So the top row of the SQ-1 CV goes to VCO0 and bottom row controls VCO1... and the C jack ??? wtf...It does not make sense to me feeding it back to VCO1 square out ??? I suggest look at mine newer videos with softpop.... there I start to play with gate and get a good results. Also you will note that I purposely lover the GATE voltage from SQ-1 using resistor and LED b/c it was making a a lot of pops, so going down to 2v (LED voltage) helped to smooth the gate

No, it's on my list including o-coast, there are a lot of things on my list:) but I'm working on Softpop with teenage engineering modular 16 that's much more powerful than sq-1

Hi, can i ask, how do you record music to computer? :) Thanks

Jiří Majer no computer Jiří, the kaossmini pad (korg) captures audio to the micro SD and that gets via some EQ and compression before it goes to the computer to iMovie for video editing

Super nice jam! The Tonic is must have! And the Softpop's bubbly sounds come out great through the Boss reverb. Sadly, its price is so... unattractive. I have a "standard" tonal side that tells me to better get a dominion club (only about 100 more for added sequencer, 3 osc, 2 subs, and a lot more control) and a "noisy" side that tells me to get a Landscape Stereo Field (only 10 more for a more fun interface, less predictable timbres, use as cv controller).
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
yeah.. The "Dominion club" is on my list too, but a few lines down... I know I watched most of the DC videos,...yes you get more control and more options. "Landscape Stereo Field" very interesting... if you look at my older videos with ROLI i really NEED the extra expression and roli blocks with 5D almost :) ... worked for me (long story short) But I dig the "Landscape stereo field" too will add it to my list :) I'm still in search for an ideal controller ... have you tried IOS "impactor" ? ... But I need to emphasize that the RV-500 is 1/3 less than a strymon big sky... and you get a lot more control with rv-500... plus 5+ hours of battery operation ... an ideal verb for mobile setup... I I have a few zoom pedals... they work great but rv-500 is one-or two level up... WxxR thanks for stopping by !
@WxkR7 жыл бұрын
Funk Tree frankly, I have not invested much on effects. I only have a Zoom MS-70CDR, and a Korg Mini KP. I know they can make things sound a lot juicer but I cannot convince myself to get a Strymon or an Eventide instead of another synth! The RV-500 does look like a great investment. BTW, I was not clear in my comment. I meant to say that the Softpop is IMO too expensive compared to the many options around $400 USD. I really was waiting for it, but the price made it appear a lot less appealing (I was hoping for around $300... thence, the Stereo Field went up!). Another synth that really has my mouth watering is the Eowave Quadrantid Swarm. I hope they do not ask for more than $500 for it ($450 would be ideal). Touch surfaces, spring reverb and plenty of patch points cover most of my current weak spots! Oh... and yes I've used Impaktor but mostly to have fun drumming a bit, not as a controller. I love it!
@FunkTree7 жыл бұрын
that is right the SoftPop is not cheap. But there is almost no plastic so the built of Softpop is great, with a few tweaks it might reach the golden moog-like-status. Yeah my "internal ceiling" is $500... Anything over this price needs some solid WHY... :) .... The "Eowave Quadrantid Swarm" is something new, thanks for bringing it to my attention :)
