Just the hold+fader functions are right up my alley for tactile control. I also like the GUI light up for tracks I'm touching. Scribble strips would be nice, but then I'll looking at the screen most of the time anyway. I depend on the "Select" buttons lighting up when I use my faders(FP16), not the scribble strips. Those would need to be coloured like the tracks to be really useful too. Nice product.

@annekedebruyn77974 жыл бұрын
From a hardware production point of view this product is way more expensive. The Console 1 is basically "just" a "midi"box. Good quality (motorized) faders are really expensive. Cheap faderbanks for more than 8 faders have always been more than a thousand bucks. To compare, the cheaply made Presonus 16 bank is 1k and the 8 banks is now 450 but it's in sale here now. So you are getting a higher quality product for around the same price as the cheaper alternatives. That seems more than fair. 1000 bucks for both the Console 1 + Faderpack. 1 MCU for 8 faders is more expensive and you don't get the software with it.

How about automation or mapping plugin controls? Anyone know if this goes that far? Currently I have a Console 1 and a Faderport 8 - both used in StudioOne. I love my Console 1, and I'm only semi-happy with my FP8. Wondering if this could totally replace my FP8. The FP8 annoys me that I can only map 8 plugin parameters in StudioOne (Presonus' own DAW!). If Fader 1 maps plugs to pages, I'm entirely in.

There are always the different display modes, the most simple of which just shows which bank of tracks you're on (and consequently, which fader represents which track) plus a small stereo meter for each track. This meter bridge display mode takes up very little screen real-estate, so you can use it as an alternative to on-unit scribble strips. /Tom

The good news is that the deeper integration is achieved through features added to the VST3 protocol by PreSonus, and any other DAW can implement those features. In other words, they haven't made an exclusive arrangement with PreSonus to only provide deep integration in Studio One. The VST3 extensions are currently being beta tested in Ableton Live (10.1.9), which will have full Console 1 / Console 1 Fader support when that ships. So this could very well make its way to FL too.

Yeah…that's the way the Icon Platform M+ works. The faders are sold separately and the display is an optional add-on. I agree…I really want to see track names as a bare minimum. It's all well and good that you can touch a fader to see which one is highlighted on your computer screen, but constantly looking up at the screen to confirm you're adjusting the right fader doesn't sound like a great workflow to me. I think I understand what they're going for - you already have a huge, much nicer display right in front of you - and that's all well and good for most of the info, but not knowing which track is which is a big usability problem.

It's not meant to be a generic DAW-controller, another way you can look at the Console 1 ecosystem is as a hybrid software/hardware mixing platform - as a channel-strip plug-in with a dedicated and pre-mapped controller, instead of the other way around. The plug-in part of the system provides you the sound and characteristics of a number of available console emulations with the convenience of a computer-based workflow. The hardware part gives you the tactile feedback and intuitiveness of a real, analog desk. These things combined will contribute to a workflow that's much quicker, more accurate and more fluid than what you could likely achieve with just a keyboard and a mouse. The fact that there is deeper DAW-control with a bunch of DAWs is very cool, but it's almost more a bonus than a key feature. /Tom
