Agreed. I wonder how we could get this under control? I mean I think maybe making it illegal to have kids if you're a drug user, but, how do you really enforce that? Maybe you have to put up 200k before being allowed to have a kid or something, and you get that back with interest, but it shows the parent can at least take care of the kid. I realize these are crazy ideas with lots of issues, but, just throwing stuff out there - we need something dramatic.

No. She said they invited her to multiple family gatherings but she declined because she believed there would be an underlying tension. She said things would appear to be ok but she would feel like there is still resentment from her family. She said her sisters wants her to get help. I'm sorry for being brutally honest here but she doesn't want to hold herself accountable for her actions. If her family abandoned her, they would not be inviting her anywhere at all. They wouldn't even answer her phone calls or want better for her. She admitted to going back to the same man who conflicted the relationship between her and her mother. The interviewer asked her what is she going to do after the interview and her answer was "getting down" again while laughing. I'm sorry for how her life turned out but until she can be able to hold herself accountable, she's her own worst enemy. She has to admit her faults to herself. She has to admit her own part in her own self destruction.

@@redward18 no.. the program she was staying in wasnt rehab, she went there for her childhood trauma. when she turned 18 she didn’t want to stay there anymore and finish the program which is understandable. her family never wanted her back home, they made it seem like she had to do a bunch of extra shit just to be able to come home. this put her in a situation where she was homeless and turned to the streets. the only family member who was trying to get her back home was her mom, and everytime her mom asked the rest of them they said they didn’t want her home. they didn’t invite her to their moms burial, and excluded her from a lot of important shit, so yes the life she chose is her decision but you can’t rly blame her

Sometimes I can wake up somewhat rested… only now finding whats ptsd and why I am the way I am, could fight a tallest man if I see abuse in public, even if I risk being stabbed, and God forbid if somebody is nasty to my kids. It’s frustrating that she has to admit what’s happening for any action to be taken in a very clear domestic violence and trafficking case. We all know why victims of abuse don’t speak up. So why does the law allow so many abusers get away with so many disgusting acts of violence? Millions of beautiful people slip through the cracks everyday, and I just hope she can find her way out & peace in this life

Just an observation from watching this series: why is our first reaction to apologise when we start crying in front of someone else? I guess we are all taught on some level that being vulnerable is embarrassing or showing weakness. It's sad. Seems like Selena has had almost nobody there to just be nice to her and want nothing in return, even her family. What a brutal way to grow up. Someone give this woman a hug and tell her that she's stronger and more valuable than all the people who took advantage of her.
@simonebittencourt8251

Exactly! Why so many people feel like apologizing for crying? It is so sad! Repressing conflicting emotions never takes to any good path. The body carries the burden of repression/suppression. At some point, it explodes somewhere like a pressure cooker. This young woman had to suppress so much.... It is so understandable how she needs to vent her emotions. She has been so brutalized her own life! She needs a break, she needs a life without pain. All my respect for her! She is amazingly kind, intelligent. Many people say that one cannot give what one never had. This young woman never felt loved. Still, she is such a giving individual. There is something about her that is innate. How beautiful!

I distinctly remember being on the playground in 2nd or 3rd grade, and realizing “oh shit…. Okay so showing vulnerability seems to turn people away, and it’s like ringing a dinner bell for bullies, best to lie and hide how you actually feel.” I still struggle with that shit. The voice that says “no one cares about your misery, they have their own, it isn’t right to impose.” Throughout history social groups rarely encourage crying, (I can’t think of any that did, but I assume at some point in human history there must’ve been). Must be an evolutionary thing🤷🏻‍♂️.

I eventually stopped crying altogether. Therapy fixed it. Now I’ll cry and don’t care if people seee it.

I learned early on as a therapist to keep from instantly handing out the box of tissues. It subtly sends a message to the client to stop crying. If you're at that point in the relationship, letting them feel vulnerable and exposed in that moment can be exactly what they may need.

A number of the SWU interviewees have mentioned going to a (behavioural management) boarding school in Utah. Paris Hilton has publicly discussed how the Utah school she attended caused her to develop PTSD. 💔 They may get rid of the unwanted ‘behaviour’ for the time being, but the teen is left with the trauma, pain, shame, low self-esteem and unmet emotional needs.

I relate to this girl so much, my mom wasn’t around and my father is an addict and was homeless. I put myself in foster care at 17 and graduated high school. Then, I got kicked out of my foster home and was homeless for a year in la and OC area. I started doing dates and it was the hardest thing in my life and I would take molly and e pills to numb my issues. Now, I live in San Diego and I work as a document specialist at 21 years old and I will be graduating as a Paralegal early next year. Then, I will be eventually applying to law School. I was there before and that shit is horrible. I pray for you Selena. Keep that mentality, don’t ever let no other human control your path. Do the things that you know is good for you and believe in yourself, please believe in that better life on the other side. It will come, I promise❤️

I watched so many of Mark’s videos but this one gets to me. I feel sad and getting watery eyes listening to her. I’m adopted too. But I was lucky. My adopted parents are really good people. I went from foster home to home to finally living in the Palisades in Southern California. My mom alway believing me until I disobey her and got pregnant. She gave me a choice, have an abortion, I wouldn’t do that. Eventually, it got to the point she knows I’m too far alone. Now she wanted me to give my son up for adoption after he is born to one of her wealthy friends or be completely on my own. I refused. She Throw me out at 8 months pregnant. I’ve been on my own since. It’s such a long store. My point is I know it’s hard, I never once thought about prostitution. I just couldn’t nor do I have anyone bad around me. Maybe I’m lucky . God was watching over me. Selena, you are beautiful and sweet. Get out of this business. Don’t let anyone used you. You are worth something. You can do it. Leave those bad guys. Don’t give up. Please!! you don’t need to sell yourself. I’ll be thinking of you.

The best and most freeing thing my therapist ever said to me was "Your mother doesn't love you". Selena- your foster mother didn't love you. The sooner you accept this, the sooner you will be able to process it, realize your worth, and have healthy relationships. She used her foster kids for money and didn't care about your well-being, then she wanted to use you as a caretaker. She manipulated a child's need for a mother to gain a source of income and a servant. That isn't love. Further, your family gaslit you to believe that their neglect was your fault. None of it was ever your fault. You did and DO deserve more. You deserved a mother, but you can mother yourself as you are INCREDIBLY STRONG. You can have your own family someday- I see you being a great mother. You are intelligent- do what you need to do, get a degree (even an associate's) you can use, and start your own family
