I am retired LE, 5 years as an Investigator and I went into the job feeling like it was an honor that I was allowed to do this job. At the end, I just wanted to get my time in, get out in one piece and get on with the rest of my life. At the end of the day, you only solve as much Crime as your City is willing to pay for, and they surely aren't willing to pay for enough Cops and Detectives to do the upfront oversight to prevent the kind of things Pete talked about from happening. God help the Cop on duty that actually does report any kind of malfeasance. The City will bide its time, wait for the right moment and come down on you like a ton of bricks. You will be done dirtier far more than you can ever imagine. Looking back, I think this happens because of human nature, human greed, human arrogance, human jealousy. If you work in any one place long enough, there will be people who won't like you for whatever reason. Maybe you got to go to a training school they wanted to go to, and they will always be looking to stab you in the back for whatever reason. Cops aren't any different than any person. In my time, I saw incredible acts of bravery and competence far more times than I saw acts of dishonesty, cowardice and selfishness, but we are all human beings and it does happen.

@@LookToWindwardit’s not necessarily his memory that is at the root of this issue. It’s kind of a New York Italian storytelling style. There’s lots of tangents, sidetracks, backtracks and foreshadowing blended into a story that could likely be told in a much more succinct fashion. I spent 18 months in New York for work, and I wish I could say that I got better at following these kinds of tales, but I really didn’t. The locals would tell me that it takes a few years of immersion into their culture before you get proficient enough to be able to truly follow the stories.

Former police civilian member here, loved your detective stories, and hugs from Canada for standing up for an innocent person! Also loved your sense of humour ... Great interview!

Hes is so brave, and the absolute epitome of what police officers should be. It breaks me that he thinks nobody cares. We do. We want honesty within our governments and our police forces. Its just so deep, the scheming, the corruption, its nearly impossible for us to put a stop to it.

@5995Tee yes, seems impossible, right? that's why I said me and the citizens like me, WANT those things, but also mentioned it being 'nearly impossible' to put a stop to it. The ones in power depend on us feeling hopeless, though. They know damn well if an uprising ever truly happens, they will all be so terribly fu*ked. So, my theory is, don't lose hope, and fight the power every little chance you get. Otherwise, you're just a sucker!

I really enjoyed this interview. These old Ny cops are just a different breed of human than we have now. The stuff they’ve seen and we’re a part of in their lives and careers turned them into the toughest and the sharpest humans we have. His story was a little hard to follow for me once he started talking about working in the DA’s office. But overall he definitely seems like the kind of guy who wants to see the cities succeed and the corruption be rooted out of the police department. It’s truly amazing how NYC and the state just chooses not to deal with the corruption. Mayor eric adams just went to Israel to kiss the wall. Why? What in the hell does a mayor of any American city need to go to Israel for? NYC is falling apart and drowning in illegals but the mayor leaves town to go and mingle. It’s just dumb.

Uhhh NYPD cops are still just like this dude. They’re all so easy to identify, they all act the same way, they carry on the traditional culture that has defined the NYPD for a century. A giant gang of tough guys who make up the rules as they go, are smooth talkers, and see themselves as better/smarter/superior to the general public. They’re all “good guys” until they’re with their gang and headed off to fight their enemy: the citizens of NYC

We need an encore. I love these LE sties. My son is one. I appreciate Mr Fiorello & anyone brave enough to tell the truth & do the right thing. I’ve encountered some great cops & some really bad cops in my 69 yrs. God bless you all in LE & say it like it is.

I really appreciate this guys humility. Lots of people come on here and talk about how they were number one or some excuse as to why they weren't. This guy tells the truth and says I'm lucky I made it.

The words that resonate for me from dear old Pete are..if you want a job where you scheme and do nothing then this job is PERFECT. I've not trusted the system my entire life and this old mans recount proves my instinct. Thanks for this interview Mark you're a ledge xx
