This cobbled together persona thar hes unable to maintain for the duration of his performance is concerning, entertaining, sad, funny, pathetic, human, vulernable and a real WAKE UP CALL THAT WE MAY BE DOOMED - but aren't because the majority of society functions at much higher levels- for instance- mining cohorts and amassing revenue based subscribers in the millions. It occurs to me that we- the audience-fail to recognize our own bias. For example; a recent and previous interview in which the subject claims to have '"decided or chosen" not to have children because of her life circumstances/choices is a statement most seem to believe with no question. The inartuculation of this subject- having his face covered , being male and other differences all factor into our collective asessment ( guess) at his being able to convince us or believe him. I still havent watched more than 3 minuets but have become more interested in how we respond to it. Any individual who is interviewed on Soft White Underbelly chooses to share in the ways they are willing to. Some are convincing and all they share- true or not, is a revelation of who they are in that moment. We interact with them through our lense of understanding, tolerance, empathy and distain. We are kind to those who we feel are ' real' and rip apart those who don't. Soft White Underbelly and the comments are just as reflective of US as those who are in the interviews. Lets say this kid is who he says he is- not interesting topic for me. To me- he's much more interesting if he is lying. As for vetting subjects- Soft White Underbelly doesnt seem to guarantee anything except a steady stream of interviews/ indivuduals sharing what they have to say. Dont believe everything you think.
